If you've ever wondered why fanboys can behave like such unbelievable jerks, as surely anyone who's ever looked at an Internet comments thread has pondered, then this might come as a revealing insight: chemically, fanboys are basically in love with their consoles on a brain-chemical level. Diss their beloved Xbox, or Playstation, or whatever else, and it's like you're calling their girlfriend ugly to their face.

yikes that's sort of me and Sony's gadgets. No other company gives that feel of a dopamine rush than Sony's gadgets do for me. I own a Vaio Flip 14, Z1 Compact, G-Tank speakers, NEX 5n, and PS3/4/Vita. I adore each and every one of these products and couldn't find better elsewhere.

A lot of this is simply confirmation bias as well. None of this information is particularly new, and neither are the behaviors. Politics, products, cars, homes, etc.. Everyone tends to fall wildly in love with their choices because they've made them, and it makes things easier than admitting you maybe chose the wrong console/car/clothes and so on.

I think that line is more applicable to stressing over possessions you actually don't give a crap about and don't actually provide meaningful interest, and how they manage to impact your life. But maybe it does apply to other stuff.

Either way, awesome movie and awesome book. Fun fact: Chuck Palahniuk loved the movie so much that he said he felt a bit embarrassed about his book. Awesome guy. He's supposedly writing a followup to Fight Club as we speak. The book Fight Club ended a little differently than the film, so if they make a film for this new book it will be interesting to see how they handle that.

This is a bit simplified (read: EXTREMELY!!!). Dopamine is highly involved in MANY aspects of brain function. It's not just about love, lust, addiction, ADHD, psychosis, etc. It's become one of the most high profile neurotransmitter, because it's been studied to death. But, it's not the be all and end all of ANY of those things. It's a part of a bigger chemical cocktail. Dopamine DOES increase at points where the expectation of pleasure or reward is imminent. THIS is where the article is getting its connection. But, neurotransmitters act on AREAS of the brain. THAT would be the most interesting study. Not IF it rises, but where is it located? Is it limbic (associated with pleasure), pre-frontal (inhibition), parietal (more with perception and coordination of perception)?
Interesting "link" but I'd really like to see more.
