Not really. Its just what it is, the most searched gaming console in 2014. At the very least, it shows that the console is still relevant and not relegated to obscurity.

I can see why it might be seen as a victory too. People searching the xbox one most likely want to buy one. That's the more logical explanation rather than assuming the search terms were all negative. Plus the spike in sales last month might suggest that too.

Are you confused because you are trying to make something out of nothing? The fact that you think it's negative news would be the ps4 outselling the Xbox one does your motives. 1) Why wouldn't it boost the ps4 results since it works be seen as positive news. 2) Regardless if the Xbox one is in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place it can still be considered good news as long as it's selling. 3) With where the Xbox over started, and where it currently stands, why would it not be considered a victory? During the US holiday season most people are searching for your console.

it kind of makes sense. it's the second most popular console right now and the die hard sony fans can't really stop themselves from talking about the xbox one. so its natural for them to be curious to see how its doing and whats going on even though they try and tell everyone how they aren't interested. take n4g for example, how many times do you see ps4 owners talk about the xbox one and click on xbox one articles while telling everyone how much better the ps4 is?

The reality is though this news is irrelevant because it could easily be people searching for bad news also, like someone above said. Also, doesn't necessarily means sales.

Most people may type xbox 1, xb1, xbox live, ps4, playstation 4, etc. You can see adding xbox and playstation terms. Also, yes, that includes vita and ps3, and xb360 however can easily be factored out by comparing relative searches. Actually results in almost a 4:1 difference. You can't just compare 1 term and claim to know more than google...

Enjoy, I followed your instructions and got different results. It had the XBO in the lead, but when I played with the categories applied I noticed something different. Here look at this:

So I noticed there is searched items and video game console as you can see from my link. I really do not know how these two different categories are different. For some reason the search items and video game console for the XBO is about the same; for the PS4 it is completely different, which is really weird. You can see a significant increase between the searching and video game console in the link I provided.

Overall I don't think this really means anything because I know there are time that I search for certain information on the XBO as I do with the PS4. For example I did an extensive research on the XBO Windows Kernel to find more information about it earlier in the year.

Have you tried using the same cases for playstation like you have it as Playstation under search term and PlayStation under the console category.

1. If you use PS4 instead of 'PlayStation 4', you will see a huge disparity.

My comment about sales was directed more towards the other guys on this thread equating the alleged results with sales.

But to you're still incorrect with your original statement, as google doesn't actually shows the XBox One to be the number one search console for 2014. So the Bing results does look all the more suspicious now.

I mean, logically there's a flaw here in what the website is implicating, and that's what everyone is questioning here. Over the course of 12 months, how likely would it be that the lesser selling console out of the two, rack up the most hits, if not for a negative reason?

If you assume that every single person who owns an Xbox one searched google for it, then that would bring the total to 9 million. Now you would also have to assume that every single PS4 owner also searched google for it, which would bring you almost twice results you got from Xbox One.

So if somehow 25 million people (9M Xbox One + 16M PS4) searched for Xbox One and only 9 million bought it. While the PS4 was searched way less but 16 million people bought it. Then you can sort of deduce that the Google search actually hurt the Xbox more than it helped it. Not conclusively, but way more plausible than the positive spin people are putting on it right now.
