Opinions are just that, i really didnt like FARCRY3 at all which is why i wont be picking this one up. With FARCRy3 i fell for the hype and i regretted it. The online was also atrocious and looked nothing like the videos UBISOFT passed off as console which was obviously high end pcs.

Far Cry 3 was a much needed change over FC 2 but it was nothing like the first one. Best one in the series in my opinion. Then again it was made by crytek and much more tacticle then the simple theme park which is FC3. This looks to be more of the same.

Yeah, FaryCry 3 was terrible. The open world was utterly dull and lacking in character with the only real thing to do being to assault the same boring outposts populated by the exact same single type of enemy over and over again. I'm not surprised that FarCry 4 is the exact same thing but with different graphics.

Tom mcshea gave skyward sword a 7.5/10... I don't see him as a fanboy, I just don't trust his reviews. Gamespot's reviews tend to be hit or miss.

When its all said and done when a new release comes out, reading reviews, and then playing the game...I almost always end up with the same opinion as Kevin and about the same personal score.

I don't take fanboys seriously either. The great thing about Kevin V is that he's super critical and doesn't hand out 10 and 9 because of the hype. I prefer his reviews simply because they let me know that Gamespot isn't being bought anymore...I'm looking at you IGN.

As for this review, it's dead on. Farcry 4 isn't the same techincal jump as Black Flag to Unity. It's more like Farcry 3.5 remastered in a new setting. But the biggest problem with Farcry 4 is that it doesn't have Vaas.

If you enjoyed the 3rd one you will love this one. It is similar but also loads more to do with a lot more animals to hunt and vehicles.

What a world we live in today, where somehow 7/10 is a low score. It's like anything lower than an 8 is all "horrible" to you guys. For what it's worth, a 5 or 6 would be "Average", and many sites outright state that. 7 would be above average, or "Good", etc. I'm not sure why everyone expects every AAA game to be some revolution in gaming or something.

Exactly!! If every game got a 8 or 9 than there wouldn't be a point in doing reviews. This is a 10 point scale people. A 7/10 score is a very good game.

This is how I see it:

0-1 = Unplayable
2-3 = Works but is just plain bad
4-5 = Average
6-7 = Above average
8-9 = Amazing
10 = Perfect (Very rare score)

Dragon - No games are perfect, so there is no perfect scores. 10 just means it's so good, that any faults are easily overlooked.

Correct. Technically, a 10 should be classified as a Gem. It has flaws but it is a game that is or should be sought after due to it being one of those games all of it's particular type should be measured to.

It is low, now I've only been playing since 11 last nite but I'm having a freak'n BLAST. I can't see it being a 7 right now feels more like a 9 although I'm 4 hrs in and not complete. I haven't even tried MP yet, but you know at this point I already feel like I got my $ worth. To me thats the answer.

Actually when you think about it, they are kind of similar games to each other now with the addition of fps in gta. If one gets them both, in a way one is getting two open world fps games. They both provide that experience now.

If the game is a big gimmick like the previous entry, then seems like a fair score to me. I won't know if it is, and won't until it is sub $20. 3 was fun but lacked substance. It is funny everybody acts like they played the game, IMO FC3 is no 8+

I didn't particularly enjoy FC3,I actually preferred Far Cry2.

hmm most reviews coming in around 80-90% some near 95. gamespot seems to be the lowend for scores. somehow people think a 7/10 is bad these days. if thats bad then i dont know why we even use a scale of 10 since apparently 70% is bottom of the barrel. why not just use a scale of 2-4 if all we are going to count is 7 8 9 10

Its not that 7 is a bad score, it's that it's the average score. Everyone wants to see games that are better than average, but the majority of games are just average, and the most common score is 7. This lumps FC4 in with those games.

Why pick up a game that scores a 7 when there's a few 8, 9 and 10's on the market just recently.

Yes but there are games with an average score of 7 that are MUCH better than games with a 9 or 10 score. It all depends on who reviews them and what franchise they are. Which platform a game is on can come into play sometimes too. I myself try to play most games in the 5-10 range. If I limited myself to just 8 and above on Metacritic I would have missed out on tons of great games.

While the older crew that made Gamespot a great place for trusted reviews is long past (currently Giant Bomb) Kevin Van Ord is the last remaining excellent reviewer.

He is primary RPG overall gamer and I have never been let down in those genre reviews that he did.

Sometimes he does review other games and usually tends to give lower scores.

I wouodnt worry about his 7/10 and pick up the game and have fun. :)

Like most games in 2014, Far Cry 4 IS overhyped for the actual quality of game.

Is it good? Sure, its ok. But is it amazing? No, it isn't, and YES I've been playing it. I like shooters with RPG leveling.

However, its not that great, 7/10 seems fair.

Playing it myself and I disagree. Its way better then FC3. I also like AC Unity. I platinumed Unity yesterday with 28 hours logged. I only experienced 1 crash and 3 minor frame drops. Just my opinion off of my experience. Ubi is just the pub to hate right now. Its sad gamers have hive minds and cant think for themselves.

Dude, Unity sucks. I don't care what YOU experienced, I HAVE seen Unity and it sucks.

The gameplay is trash and slow. The combat system is push to win, the framerate is NOT that great.

I'm sorry, but compared to other games like say... Bayonetta 2, Unity's combat is just lackluster, slow, and old.

Ubisoft get your shit SORTED! because you've become worse than EA as of late, they should test their products before they release it At first Watch Dogs came out with features disabled and wreaked of poor console to PC port then Assassins Creed Unity came out last week and reports state that it's poorly optimized and full of bugs on both console and PC and today Far Cry 4 was released and it won't run on my PC because I can't update the game, I can't login to the game breaking uPlay and update with the day one patch due to the servers being down... FIX YOU SHIT, scrap Uplay.

I don't play Farcry, but I'd wager:

A) Ubisoft is really slipping into a dark place this generation, at least in this first year because their releases have been met with disappointment

B)Gamespot is just being Gamespot and hates just about everything they can get away with hating without hitting the beehive.

C)any combination of the aforementioned in various proportions of reviewer hate and developer indolence.
