Farcry 4 Review | Gamespot

Gamespot - "Like the terrain if depicts, Far Cry 4 travels both high and low, representing the good, the bad, and ugly of video games all at once. It's awesome and messy and dumb and fun and annoying and gross and beautiful. Take any given adjective in your vocabulary, and chances are, it will in some way describe Far Cry 4."

This seems kinda low for a Farcry game. I liked Farcry 3. The bad guy is badass batshit crazy LOL.

tlougotg3448d ago

Opinions are just that, i really didnt like FARCRY3 at all which is why i wont be picking this one up. With FARCRy3 i fell for the hype and i regretted it. The online was also atrocious and looked nothing like the videos UBISOFT passed off as console which was obviously high end pcs.

Double Toasted3448d ago

Why are you here? Move along, you're clogging up the airwaves.

On topic: GameSpot...still trolling hard.

CoTton_MoUtH3448d ago

Exactly why I felt this was rent sub par online only games worth buying and keeping GTA V and LBP3

Unspoken3448d ago

Far Cry 3 was a much needed change over FC 2 but it was nothing like the first one. Best one in the series in my opinion. Then again it was made by crytek and much more tacticle then the simple theme park which is FC3. This looks to be more of the same.

radler3448d ago

Yeah, FaryCry 3 was terrible. The open world was utterly dull and lacking in character with the only real thing to do being to assault the same boring outposts populated by the exact same single type of enemy over and over again. I'm not surprised that FarCry 4 is the exact same thing but with different graphics.

mikeslemonade3447d ago

Farcry is boring. Only casual gamers like farcry.

Grap3447d ago

Its the Kevin guy who reviewed games like Last Of Us and other good games low scores. I don't take him seriously.

noctis_lumia3448d ago

wrong it was that nintendo fanboy named tom mcshea who did the TLOU review and gave it 8/10

kevin van ord is probably the ONLY good reviewer left on gamespot atm

The 10th Rider3448d ago (Edited 3448d ago )

Tom mcshea gave skyward sword a 7.5/10... I don't see him as a fanboy, I just don't trust his reviews. Gamespot's reviews tend to be hit or miss.

BiggerBoss3448d ago

@noctis it clearly says in the article: "Author- Kevin Van Ord"

Tex1173448d ago

When its all said and done when a new release comes out, reading reviews, and then playing the game...I almost always end up with the same opinion as Kevin and about the same personal score.

Maxor3448d ago (Edited 3448d ago )

I don't take fanboys seriously either. The great thing about Kevin V is that he's super critical and doesn't hand out 10 and 9 because of the hype. I prefer his reviews simply because they let me know that Gamespot isn't being bought anymore...I'm looking at you IGN.

As for this review, it's dead on. Farcry 4 isn't the same techincal jump as Black Flag to Unity. It's more like Farcry 3.5 remastered in a new setting. But the biggest problem with Farcry 4 is that it doesn't have Vaas.

frezhblunts3447d ago

shut up noctis, lol nintendo makes good games and you can't take a good review obv!

TheWatercooler3448d ago (Edited 3448d ago )

Review score seems a bit low. I've pre ordered anyway. Looks good and a lot of the other scores have been good.

@TheJackson.

Sorry I mean't this score. I've edited my comment

TheJacksonRGN3448d ago

The PS4 version is at 86/100 right now. That's high.

poor_cus_of_games3447d ago

If you enjoyed the 3rd one you will love this one. It is similar but also loads more to do with a lot more animals to hunt and vehicles.

purpleblau3448d ago

too low. i'm enjoying very bit of it. 8 at least.

NarooN3448d ago

What a world we live in today, where somehow 7/10 is a low score. It's like anything lower than an 8 is all "horrible" to you guys. For what it's worth, a 5 or 6 would be "Average", and many sites outright state that. 7 would be above average, or "Good", etc. I'm not sure why everyone expects every AAA game to be some revolution in gaming or something.

dragon823448d ago

Exactly!! If every game got a 8 or 9 than there wouldn't be a point in doing reviews. This is a 10 point scale people. A 7/10 score is a very good game.

This is how I see it:

0-1 = Unplayable
2-3 = Works but is just plain bad
4-5 = Average
6-7 = Above average
8-9 = Amazing
10 = Perfect (Very rare score)

Svinya3448d ago

Dragon - No games are perfect, so there is no perfect scores. 10 just means it's so good, that any faults are easily overlooked.

aLucidMind3448d ago

@Pixie.
Correct. Technically, a 10 should be classified as a Gem. It has flaws but it is a game that is or should be sought after due to it being one of those games all of it's particular type should be measured to.

Assassingamer1363448d ago

The fact you don't even know Vaas makes me think you never played it.

frezhblunts3447d ago

Well I agree on the review, great graphics but seems like the third far cry plus ubi pushed it out so they probably rushed it too like unity

supergravity3447d ago

It is low, now I've only been playing since 11 last nite but I'm having a freak'n BLAST. I can't see it being a 7 right now feels more like a 9 although I'm 4 hrs in and not complete. I haven't even tried MP yet, but you know at this point I already feel like I got my $ worth. To me thats the answer.

I wouldn't mind if Gamespot closed down soon. Their glory days back in the early 2000s are long gone.

Str8Chaos743448d ago

Yep it sucks now. Especially the site layout. I laughed at their Alien isolation Review, kid basically gave it a low score because it was hard.

jmac533448d ago

I give Gamespot a 7 out of 10.

d_g3448d ago

@jmac53

will thumbs up that's a good Review

mushroomwig3448d ago

Two very different type of games, what's your point?

midnight_233448d ago

Actually when you think about it, they are kind of similar games to each other now with the addition of fps in gta. If one gets them both, in a way one is getting two open world fps games. They both provide that experience now.

Link2DaFutcha3447d ago

@midnight_23 But when you ACTUALLY think about it, they are completely different games. Unless the similarity stems from them both being games that exist, in which case yes, totally the same.

Picking up both today, can't wait. Gamesgiving is upon us!

Walker3448d ago

Gamespot is not a valid source for game reviews anymore

JoGam3448d ago

Agreed. I don't trust their scores. Out of all the game Ive played that they scored I didn't agree with them. Found that the scores were too low for what I thought.

Played and enjoyed Far Cry, Far Cry 3 and 4 campaigns .

-Foxtrot42d ago

4 wasn’t so bad

Pagan Min was pretty entertaining

Skuletor42d ago

Yeah, 4 was good, was hard choosing which Golden Dawn member to side with, when they were both pieces of sh!t.
I've beaten all the main entries except 2 and 6, ended up uninstalling 6 to download something else instead.

Profchaos43d ago

I'd love a far cry pack with the original PC game (not the half assed port on ps360) instincts, predator even a port of far cry 2 to modern consoles back when these games had their own identity and weren't far cry 3 cut and pastel

Demetrius43d ago

Still one of my most favorite franchises along with assassins creed

banger8842d ago (Edited 42d ago )

Same here, I don't know why these games get so much hate. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, with only a couple of exceptions. I wish they'd hurry up and announce Far Cry 7. The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumoured time limit.

I would put 5 above 6 but agree with the other ratings. Though 6 has more refined gameplay compared to 5 it's lack of a compelling story really does hurt it imo but if you are a gameplay fiend and don't really care about story it makes sense.
