Whatever Happened to the Halo movie idea?

I remember reading the director struggled to think of an adequate way to represent in on the big screen. Citing reasons such as the grunts act and look like children which obviously wouldn't sell that well to the larger audience if Master Chief just went round shooting (also ignoring them does a fan disservice)

It got cancelled and the brilliant movie, District 9 was made off the back of the Halo movie's ashes.

D9 was an awesome movie. Blomkamp, it's director, is rumored to direct the TV show.

This missing 'Halo Movie' hasn't been canned yet, although it's now termed 'Digital Feature' done along with Ridley Scott... I expect that to be closer to Halo Guardians release.

Microsoft, Fox and Universal couldn't decide on how much percentage each other got so the two studios pulled their money and the project was shelved.

Microsoft should get the halo story writers to write the script/story, then hire a cinematic team to just make a full length cinematic movie. I'd watch that.

Think MS should fund the entire movie and just give WB. a percentage for distribution. Similar to what George Lucas did with star wars. I have only 1 suggestion get Joseph Staten, Eric Nylund. Tom Abernathy and some of the talented writer from Dark Horse Comic to pen a script.

Shouldn't be too long because Microsoft HATES making IPs. They find throwing money at DLC to get it 2 months early or get a game a week early to be a much better use of resources lmao.

How is what I said not a factual statement? How many exclusive IPs does microsoft have? How many games have they bought timed exclusivity for? Sounds like just butt hurt over facts to me.

The same thing that happens to 90% of video game movies, it gets shelved/canned and never released.

I believe MS had decided to cancelled it due to certain conflicts like who should make the script, or best director to direct the film..

it wasn't publicized too much but in a nutshell:

everything was set and ready to go. director was chosen. had the support of Spielberg and other top producers. However, the budget analysis skyrocketed and Microsoft wanted a greater control over the project (in terms of creative process and whatnot- understandable because ms knew that game-to-movie flicks generally turned out awful so they might have wanted to stop this trend with their Halo movie) -> So, fox and universal pulled out and ms decided to wait until the timing and conditions would be ripe once again for a Halo movie.
