The NES Won't Be The Only Nintendo Classic Mini Console

With the introduction of the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System, it seems Nintendo is taking an interesting approach to its backlog of historical consoles and titles. NES titles listed in the Nintendo eShop start around $4.99. There are 30 of these games included within the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System. If you were

italiangamer2842d ago

I'm seriously thinking of buying the Mini NES, I already have the money. Let's see what happens when it launches :D

darthv722842d ago (Edited 2841d ago )

It looks slick. As far as possible releases... SNES seems obvious. N64, yeah sure but gamecube... nah

Typically these plug and plays are based around small rom files and / or cart based systems. 2600, C64, Colecovision, Intelivision, Genesis (4 variants) and now the NES mini. There are even ones made by namco that contain arcade roms but anything that initially used optical media I don't see happening.

Personally I'd love a mini TG16 even though I already have a turbo everdrive and PCE.

mark_parch2841d ago

please please let there be a snes mini. i never got to play legend of zelda or metroid

MachuchalBrotha3162841d ago

Huh? Is there something wrong with the Gamecube?

Don't mind him Nintendo give me a Gamecube mini with Eternal Darkness, F Zero, Mari Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, etc. I'll buy it.

NukaCola2841d ago

GC isn't 10kb or even 50mb like an NES or Super NES game. That would be too big

gangsta_red2841d ago

@Mark_Parch

"i never got to play legend of zelda or metroid"

IMO the Zelda and Metroid for the SNES are hands down the best for both in the entire series.

SNES had some of the best JRPG's too, would love for an SNES Mini to have more than a few on it.

Mystogan2841d ago

but if you have a half decent rig. You can play literally all of them... Even Wii titles.

TWB2841d ago (Edited 2841d ago )

^Gamecube games are around 1gb each, so they would more than likely want to invest into a HDD big enough to house all the games, emulation software and savestates without conflict. Next they would need to invest into hardware that could be the size of a Gamecube or smaller, that is capable of emulating GC software. Lastly they would need to develope such software that could run the games without glitches or hickups. Unless they flat out recycle Wii hardware and slightly modify it, but I would still expect noticeably higher prices than NES classic mini.

We are talking about a much bigger budget and development costs here.

NES classic mini more than likely has some cheap phone chips inside with half a gig of flash memory, and it will still work flawlessly with NES games with their emulation software.

I could see SNES happening, but N64 seems somewhat unlikely, or it would at least be more costly than what the NES classic mini is. I would expect 100$ or little more (since they want to make a proffit with these things)

Maybe a few years down the line.

Maybe snes, no interest in 64 or GameCube

Whymii2841d ago

Judging by the disagrees, you're definitely in a minority.

Skankinruby2841d ago

Yes I'm very intimidated, 40 people know how to click on a down arrow. I'll just continue to separate myself from the loads of sheep who continue to buy the same Nintendo games over and over again and treat it like it's a brand new experience. The only reason I'm even interested in nes and snes is it touches a sentimental cord on my childhood memories. But I'll just observe and be humored as Nintendo runs a train on these retards that keep feeding into it just like this retarded Pokémon go garbage.

Whymii2840d ago (Edited 2840d ago )

We're all entitled to our own opinions, even those who use insulting and abusive language to describe those who they don't agree with.

TRS_Gear2842d ago

I would totally buy every version of this if they do decide to make all consoles prior to Wii.

The 10th Rider2842d ago

I desperately want to see a SNES one...If they could get Chrono Trigger in there with A Link to the Past, Super Matroid, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario RPG, Yoshi's Island, Star Fox, Super Mario Kart, Super Castlevania, Kirby Super Star, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Super Punch Out, Pilotwings, Mega Man, Street Fighter, Mario Paint...

Heck, that's only what? 20-ish games? I'd pay $100 for that alone.

psplova2842d ago (Edited 2842d ago )

I agree with everything except the hundred dollar thing. .lol $50 to $60 sounds good considering you could just emulate all that on your own, granted not in such a sweet sweet package. . I just hope these possibly come with a save state feature. : /

The 10th Rider2842d ago

They said something that gave me the impression that it would have a suspend feature:
"How will saving work?

Each game has multiple suspend points, so you can start where you left off at a later time."

http://nintendoeverything.c...

$100 for 20 classic SNES titles in a small, portable box and an SNES controller would still be an amazing deal. I think it's safe to assume that if an SNES one comes out it will either cost more or have less titles. Maybe averaging out to $3-4 a title instead of $2?

What I really with they'd done is included a mini cartridge slot (like an SD card) so they could release expansion packs. Imagine being able to buy a cartridge with 15 more games for $30. Other publishers could tap in as well and release things like a "Konami pack" or a "Square pack."

mark_parch2841d ago

that sounds fucking awsome

Perjoss2842d ago

I would even consider a mini wii...
as long as it came with monster hunter tri on it!

The 10th Rider2841d ago (Edited 2841d ago )

I don't really see them making one for Wii right now. The controllers alone would add $30 to the cost...So you could expect it to cost $100 and have maybe 10 games at most, maybe some extra eShop titles.

A few years from now, however, they could make one that upscales the games to HD...

jholden32492841d ago (Edited 2841d ago )

Forget Tri, you need MH4U and Generations!

I just modded my vWii mode on Wii U, and loaded a 256gb SD (format to FAT32) with my entire GameCube and Wii collection. And now I can play all of them directly from SD card, even with a Wii U Pro controller!

And my 3DS? Pffft... Modded that too. Put my entire game collection on a 200gb microSD, plus 150 virtual console installs for SNES and GBA and a few BS Satellaview (like the 2 Zelda games with translations and the Chrono Trigger pseudo-sequel Dream Runner). Plus emulators for NES, GB (and auto applies color), GBC, GameGear, NeoGeo Pocket Color, NES, TG16, Master System, Genesis, SegaCD, 32X, NeoGeo, Capcom Play System 1 and Capcom Play System 2.

It's like having this NES mini x1000 in the palm of your hand.

Whymii2841d ago (Edited 2841d ago )

With any luck they'll also make mini versions of 3DO(a), Atari Jaguar and Virtual Boy. No gamer's collection is complete without these beasts.

Spikeantestor2842d ago

It's hard for me to care about anything presented in standard def.

JScotty282842d ago

Gaming isn't all about the visuals, dude! Many of the best games ever were 8/16 bit.

EddieNX 2842d ago

I'm presuming you're born post 2000? Nostalgia is important but some of the old games offer experiences better than those on offer today. For example people genuinely prefer A link to the past over any 3D Zelda game

Goldby2842d ago

I Pity your close mined Spike.
as jscotty already stated, some if not the best gaming in history was back in the 8/16bit era

BrandanT2842d ago

I wish I could spam disagree right now.

Spikeantestor2841d ago

Ok, maybe I should clear up a few things.

1) I'm 32 years old. My first system was a Genesis. I've had just about every game system since, and including, the NES.

2) my complaint isn't that these games aren't worth a person's time. Only that, having played so many of them on so many diffrent systems over the years, I don't have the desire to do it yet again in standard def. I'm over the novelty of replaying Super Mario Bros. again for the pure nostalgia. That worked on me with the game boy color. It worked on me with the Wii and the 3DS. But I'm not interested in getting it again till it's in HD. I just have too many current games that I haven't finished even once.

3) yes, blurry graphics bother me. They just do. I don't mind simple visuals. But I do mind unintentionally blurred ones.

Drdeadlocke2841d ago

Some of the greatest games on the planet were presented in standard def though

Spikeantestor2841d ago

My issue isn't with their original presentation. My problem is playing games that were meant to look one way through a lense that obscures that original vision. Make a game that's supposed to look blurry and I'll give it a shot. Otherwise, ehhh, I just don't have the time to play bad looking versions of things I've rebought many times over already.

EddieNX 2842d ago

As for Gamecube I think we can expect more remasters for full price each on NX and making a mini one of those with 30 games is unrealistic. SNES is more likely

Microsoft’s Surface and Xbox hardware revenues take a big hit in Q3

Microsoft just posted the third quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $61.9 billion in revenue and a net income of $21.9 billion during Q3. Revenue is up 17 percent, and net income has increased by 20 percent.

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

solideagle6h ago

you should apply in MS PR team buddy, I think you will do a great job in my humble opinion :)

Sonic18813h ago

I thought darthv72 and Obscure_Observer already work for Microsoft 🤔

dveio3h ago

MS: "Xbox services and content without AB up 1%, with AB up 62%. Hardware down 31%. In total a loss of 350 mill."

darthv72: "Seems about right."

MS: "Excuse m ..."

darthv72: "I don't hardly play on my consoles directly."

Cacabunga5h ago

I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..

If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.

shinoff21835h ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Cacabunga4h ago

Hardware sales are so bad that Sony and Nintendo are blowing the sales off the water with their hardware.

If Xbox are losers, others aren’t..
Xbox already tried everything with Xbox live then subscriptions went down so much that they had to find something else. Their fans subscribed then reached saturation rather quickly.

Hardware and exclusive games is where it’s at! Keep gamers excited, announce decent software and people will support you

Xbox hardware revenue tanks to lowest point of Xbox Series generation

Profchaos8h ago

I'm not surprised surface is struggling they aren't relevant anymore

XBManiac7h ago

Too expensive hardware when others offer the same or more for less? Good work, Green Team.

SimpleDad7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

"Despite some early successes for Xbox games on rival platforms, Xbox hardware is down by a massive 31 percent this quarter."
"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."

That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.

purple1016h ago

Activision: "we gonna need a bigger rucksack/backpack please"

Microsoft: "why's that"

Activision: "to carry yo' weak ass'

Profchaos6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Top brass have also wanted to start seeing returns on the 100 billion they have put into various Xbox related moves so seeing more multiplatform games is highly likely especially from abk

It's basically saying that PlayStation is the reason Xbox is afloat right now thinks to Ps5 versions of COD

Kornholic5h ago

So basically PS and PC gamers' money is keeping Xbox on life support.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos1d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers1d 4h ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Profchaos13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

It's just backwards.

just_looken15h ago

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

jambola21h ago

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

SegaSaturn66923h ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle23h ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.
