Is Rocket League’s Xbox One Release Helped or Hindered by Being Ex PS-Plus?

In this week’s episode, Antony and Darren discuss the anticipated release of the acclaimed Rocket League on Xbox One and ponder over whether the fact that the game launched as a free PS Plus title would help it sell over on Microsoft’s platform due to the love furnished upon it at that time, or could this legacy make potential buyers hesitate to part with their cash in the hope that as it was free over on PS4 it won’t be long to become free on Xbox One… Is there an equation here? Desire vs Patience?

Who cares just play the damn game and enjoy it

Neonridr2997d ago

well they bring up a good point. Rocket League was a runaway success, but I would have to bet that a large part of that success was due to the fact that the game was free.

I mean don't get me wrong, it's a really fun game and I love playing it. But how many people would have actually paid for the game if they had charged say $20 for it?

TLG19912997d ago

Probably not that many and they made the decision to take the chance and make a name for their game and its definitely paid off.

If they every make a RL 2 they wont need to make it a free monthly title. and to be fair they have probably maid their money back from DLC packs. I know i paid for some as i got it free and i wanted to support the devs as i have played it so much.

It was only free on PS4 for a month. On PC it's been selling phenomenally well, and there's usually 60,000-90,000 playing when I am.

Apolloeye2996d ago

I don't think you understand how PS+ words Pandamobile, it's was that month's free game - meaning in that month you could have added it to your library and downloading it whenever you wanted, all you need is a PS+ account to do this, you don't even need a PlayStation.

DigitalRaptor2996d ago (Edited 2996d ago )

Not really, do most Xbox gamers know it was a PS+ freebie, or do they just know it was a really amazing PS4 indie game that is now making its way over for them to anticipate with cool Xbox-specific content?

It's more hindered by the fact there's no cross-platform play.

Skate-AK2996d ago (Edited 2996d ago )

Definitely helped. You can't always not buy a game because of the chance it will come to GWG. I have bought many games that later were free on PS+. That's just how it goes sometimes. Now waiting for GOTY editions is another story.

Your getting it again for your XB1?

Rookie_Monster2996d ago (Edited 2996d ago )

I am getting SFV on PS4 and PC also so why does this shock you?

Elite Controller support and more XBLIVE friends to play with made this second buy easy. Plus, I have extra MS points to spare. :)

Second buy?

So you didn't download for free for your PS4?

I would say "slow news day?", but that would be an understatement.

"This unwritten rule for Rocket League states that when two players’ cars get linked together, such as in a face-to-face or rear-to-rear arrangement, these two players must stay in this position until outside interference separates them."

That's literally it. That's the only "rule" that is mentioned in this article.

Gravity_DoGG179d ago

Thats "Rule 1" or as the OG's would call it "Rule 0" But its the most cringe shit ever. No one wants to lock cars if you are playing a competetive game. Players even get pissed and spam chat when you back out of it like you violated them or some shit.
