Reducing people's access to the Xbox One Preview program isn't a good idea.

Outside of the Forza games, I'm not 100% sure any of those XB1 exclusives will stay exclusive. Especially with the push for gaming on windows 10. When I can't judge the value I get from buying their hardware I end up not buying it. I have a gaming PC.

i guess nobody really reads the inner details and only sees the highlights. this topic is about the xbox one preview program where anyone who is in it can invite others. microsoft has done a very good job adding new features and hearing fan feedback (after all backwards compatibility was the number one requested feature).

for some reason they are making the access list more exclusive. probably because it can become too big to hear all the feedback.

You also have to note that Sony is also guilty of calling things exclusive and they wind up not being exclusive. It's a marketing ploy that is used by Sony AND Microsoft.

@Ermac: I disagree. Sony says "First on PS4", "Coming to PS4 first" but not "Exclusive to PS4" unless it is. Or, in the case of Destiny DLC stuff, they say "exclusive to PS4 for however much time".

I make this point, because I do feel that Sony does a hell of a better job of not trying to act like games are completely exclusive by using those words. They still don't define "timeliness" of said exclusivity well, but they don't just make sweeping statements like "Exclusive to Xbox" and then later say "Only on Xbox this Holiday" and the like.

Both make mistakes, but it is important to see a trend of one versus the other. And just to say "X did this over here this one time, therefore they're just as bad as Y who does it all the time" is playing off a symptomatic issue with one versus a rare occurrence of the other.

Edit: I do admit some bias here as far as how Microsoft markets in general. I believe they are one of the worst people to advertise. Very aggressive and competitive, always misleading in context, providing no real answers. But, it also helps to make me aware when others do similar stuff (Sony, Apple, Samsung, etc.).

I think you pretty much nailed it. As you said, being pissed requires an emotional investment. Hard to believe that people would get that emotional over not getting early access to a feature they're going to get in two months anyways.

Theres much more pressing issues in the industry that are worth getting angry about:

Launching games that are 80% finished
Removing pieces of games to sell as DLC later on
Games being $60 at launch(Too high IMO)

It is the reason why publishers remove pieces of games to sell as dlc. If anything games should be 80$ at launch. Then hopefully, there won't be anymore dlc/season pass.

I say this as someone who mainly gamed on Xbox and Xbox 360 (I also have an Xbox One, but I rarely use it in favor of the PS4.)

This story is a bit of a stretch, but it doesn't surprise me considering some of the things they've been doing lately. They're control freaks.

I was really looking forward to Windows 10, and even installed it, before I found out that it spies on everything you do. You're basically writing off your privacy when agreeing to their Terms of Use. Needless to say, I promptly went back to Windows 7.

I also accumulated quite a bit of money via $3 Xbox Digital Gift Cards from their Bing Rewards program until they started dictating the way you're supposed to use their search engine and spend your money. I never used bots or automated methods, and I actually read the links I opened. I just happened to open them really fast, which got my account suspended. I tried to appeal my case, but they wouldn't listen. They were right and I was wrong. They also started putting a 90-day time limit on the gift cards AFTER you've redeemed them. That means they take the money straight out of your Xbox Live account if you don't spend it fast enough. What the eff is that about?

The company is a joke.

The evidence is there if you bother to look. It's a very real thing. There's plenty of high profile websites reporting it as well. Much of the privacy issues can be corrected directly through the GUI, but there's a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff going on, too. If these privacy issues are just a figment of people's imaginations, then how do you explain the numerous privacy tools for Windows 10 on the web right now? Such a tool wasn't needed for any other Windows.

Unfortunately, 73 million people don't know any better. Everyone wants the latest and greatest thing without question. Seriously, look around you. Everyone's engrossed on their phones these days. It's been expanding rapidly and MS is now limiting further entry. Just like a beta. And unlike other manufactures that either don't have a preview program or have just started, Ironic the no mention is made of them.

I gave them my business by using their search engine, made them well over $3 in the process, and got paid a measly $3 in return. It takes 3 weeks just to earn that $3. I'm hardly breaking the bank here.

This policy wasn't put in place until just recently. What happened was Microsoft realized people were stockpiling their earnings and finally did something about it, because God forbid anyone actually being able to afford something from their store without digging into their own pocket. It would be one thing if the codes themselves expired in 90 days, but that's not the case. In fact, they expire in about a year. Yet the money you've already earned and redeemed to your account expires in 90 days. Does that make any sense to you? Like I said, Microsoft is dumb.

I've played the majority of my games from the last 3 generations of consoles on Microsoft's platforms. I don't mean to come across as a Microsoft hater. There's a lot worse to pull from in the last 5 years, particularly 2-3 years ago.

No one thinks those 3rd party marketing deals are exclusive Sony titles except butthurt Xbots. All the games by Sony owned studios that are stated as exclusive to the PS4 are exclusive and stay exclusive.

First and foremost EVERYBODY on xbox gets BC in november. This becomes a non issue in the next two months.Secondly it was always a limited amount of people. I have doled out invites to loads of freinds but they dont all take up the offer. I dont know of any xbox gamers upset about it( My freindlist is over 320 people. Id like to think they make a great sample saize of the xbox demograph..all ages and races, both sexes. Yeah, I just read up on what the Xbox Preview Program was cause I honestly didn't know any details about it but this seems like a hyped-up issue.

Seriously the preview program is not a feature of the xbox one to brag about. it's just common practice to test software changes before you release them. sometimes testing is done internally and sometimes it's done with customers who sign up voluntarily. if they let everyone join the program they might as well just skip the tests. but MS knows what it's doing so they also know when they have enough users to test their updates and give feedback. i am a preview member and i am because i don't like to wait for new features. i've never submitted any bugs or feedback through the preview program. probably there are a lot more people just like me. don't think that ms don't knows about that. they're just doing their job so let them do it.

I feel that MS should have a broader base when it comes to these programs. Take a percentage of their consumer base (a larger one) and let people try out these new features and what not. Or perhaps incrementally.
May they do this and we are not aware of it?
It would make sense to test your features with the broadest controlled environment possible before release.

I don't think anyone is angry at MS, a lot of people are quite pleased with many of heir moves, others just don't feel they are that relevant... I mean, they're far away second place competition, they do A LOT of noize to try to keep up woth Sony, if you listened to the press you'd think they have the upper hand for some reason (insert holiday schedule exclusive list)...

This would be true only if you think that Thomb Raider 2015 is enough to make you buy the xb1 over the PS4 (or as well as the PS4)... They tried to push their surveillance system with xb1 and now with windows 10... my government is even checking win10 if it's save and secure enough to be used in official business!
