The PS4 Controller Is Better Than The PS4 Itself

Consider buying one even if you don't own the console.

Its a great controller but the PS4 is a beast too.

Relientk773299d ago

The PS4 has more battery life/doesn't need to be charged

BitbyDeath3299d ago

Doesn't work as well being wireless though.

Not a huge fan of it. When I first got it on launch day I was impressed, but I quickly found out that I was impressed simply because it is an improvement over the DualShock 3.

X1 controller is easily the more superior controller. I will go as far say it is a fact that the X1 controller is simply better. If somehow you prefer the DS4, then you simply prefer an inferior controller.

Genuine-User3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

Here are some facts for you mike:

-Controller preference is subjective
-Inbuilt 3.5mm headjack
-Rechargeable battery
-Touchpad
-Speaker
-Share button
-Superior bumper buttons
-Analog sticks are precise with almost no deadzone.

Gazondaily3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

Guys stop comparing the console to the controller lol. That's not the point of the article.

But its pretty cool that you can use bluetooth with other devices.

My biggest problem is the cack battery life and the rubbish triggers (which can be swapped I guess). Also, the trackpad hasn't been put to good use yet imo.

But the aux headphone jack is wicked. The d-pad almost perfect and the comfort is great (although interestingly, I tried the early models before the reveal and omg, they had this amazing contour at the back that was amazing).

I bought a Xperia Z3 just to use it to dock this controller in (funnily enough I haven't done it yet).

Great controller but far from perfect.

@Genuine

Just to reply:

"-Rechargeable battery " Yeah I'd much rather have what the X1 has and have DECENT battery life. Seriously. I play for about a week. I don't have to worry about the charge running out. I cant say the same about the DS4.

"-Speaker " A bit gimmicky. I turn this off at night

"-Share button " Yes- actually a big plus for me which I forgot to mention.

"-Superior bumper buttons" I tentatively agree although they are a bit too soft imo.

"-Analog sticks are precise with almost no deadzone." The analog sticks are generally much worse than the X1 for me. Aside from the rubbish build quality, the X1 are far more tighter and the orientation suits me much better.

Each to their own though. Both great controllers.

miyamoto3299d ago

The DualShock 4 work great on my PS3 and PS Vita TV too and my Mackbook Pro.
I just got a Nyko Modular Charging Station for my two darlings controllers.

@ Septic

I do not understand the contention some you have with the DS4's battery life. It lasts about 4-6 hours and you can charge it with almost any Micro USB Cable. Connect it to your Samsung, HTC, Windows phone charger once you're done playing. It's that simple.

Speakers are part of the package. You should play Alien Isolation with the them turned on, so damn good.

I was specifically talking about the lack of dead zone, not the quality of material used for the analogue sticks. This is a design flaw with the controller, no amount of software update can fix the issue unfortunately.

DS4 has rubbish triggers? You might have a defective piece.

Takwin3299d ago

I use my PS4 controller (wired) with my PC and so does my wife. We both love it. You have to know the on-screen buttons in a PC game will show XBOX values, but most gamers won't have an issue with that because it's not like you look at your controller.

Personally, I like the XBOX 360 controller better than the PS3, but the PS4 controller is my favorite controller ever, despite the battery life not being as good as the PS3 one.

Allsystemgamer3299d ago

@mikeslemonade

Nope you're wrong. It's already been hailed by the majority of media outlets as the best controller ever made. You're just a fanboy who eats anything Xbox.

My Xbox one sits gathering dust waiting for halo 5

"DS4 has rubbish triggers? You might have a defective piece."

Sorry. Meant to say analog sticks

"I do not understand the contention some you have with the DS4's battery life. It lasts about 4-6 hours"

I have it tethered to my console the whole time now which sucks. It really only lasts 4 hours and whilst on paper that sounds like its sufficient, it really isn't. It's not good enough.

I actually had a DS4 for about a year before buying a PS4. Used it all the time! I had dstools running so games would think a 360 controller was being used. I still use it sometimes like for Ori and the blind forest

Clown_Syndr0me3299d ago

I really dislike the DS4. It's comfortable, and I'm on my PS4 everyday so it's not a big deal. Just a few things bug me.
The first being them terrible sticks. Never had any rip as always used protectors, but still.
The second is the triggers. Snapped R2 on my original controller 3 times. Recently got a white controller and it hasnt had any problems with triggers so maybe they improved them.
The last is that battery life...It is very very short!

Maxor3299d ago

Replace the sticks with metal or taller after market ones. I'm not sure why Sony thought it was a good idea to go with rubber sticks.

TKCMuzzer3299d ago

So, even though you use protectors and have had no problems with the sticks you complain without reason. Are you going by what others say.

I replaced both by batteries with better ones of eBay and have had no problems with the triggers and they are launch controllers.

User error maybe......

Clown_Syndr0me3298d ago (Edited 3298d ago )

I go hard on them triggers, always have but never have any consoles controllers snapped on me before the DS4.
& Yes as a paying customer I have the right to dissapprove of a design flaw that forced me to buy a third party accessory.
You do know your allowed to enjoy things and still acknowledge the flaws right? Blind fanboyism will only make them think it's okay to provide half-assed efforts at high costs.

Also, go into your local game store, toys r us, GAME, whatever and look at their demo setup of the PS4. I'd be surprised if their thumbs ticks were still intact. That's pretty embarrassing as it's meant to advertise the product.

Swap the sticks with the xbone's

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
