Hardline is the lowest rated Battlefield so far

At the time of writing, Battlefield Hardline has a score of 76 on PS4 on Metacritic – a figure well below that of Battlefield Bad Company 2 (88) and Battlefield 3 (89).

Is Hardline still good enough for Battlefield fans or has Visceral Games taken the series a step in the wrong direction?

Not surprising. It looks like soulless, uninspired, bland garbage.

Abash3328d ago (Edited 3328d ago )

Yet millions will still buy it and it'll make a lot of money so EA is fine with it

TheTwelve3328d ago

They can't do it forever. Mediocrity will catch up to them.

HaveSumNuts3328d ago

@TheTwelve Has mediocrity caught up to Call of Duty?

Meltic3328d ago

well im not one of those millions. Not buying it. Saving bucks for bloodborne

Kingthrash3603328d ago

Same here. Im a bf guy but ill skip this. I rather wait a week for blood borne. Seems more like a dlc than a new franchise.
Sane with ff type zero. I really want this game but for 59$ (even tho ff15 demo is included ) is far too much for a upgraded psp game imo.
i may give in if my check is high enough but...that price is surprisingly high. Ffx had a much higher make over and it was only 29$....smh

Clunkyd3328d ago

Reviews aren't reliable anymore, they're just opinions.

BiggerBoss3328d ago (Edited 3328d ago )

I think you guys are being a bit harsh. Let me be clear, Im not a Battlefield fan and I probably wont buy Hardline since I'm not a big MP fan. But a mid 70s metacritic really isnt that bad. I know that Visceral are good devs, and it appears Hardline is just an average game. I wouldnt call it garbage though..

krypt19833328d ago

of course they will including me game is great playing it right now add on dlc my ass, campaign is leagues better then cod or bf4, it's a fresh take on bf multi which simply cannot be done with a dlc troll harder game is great..

WeAreLegion3328d ago

Yes. Mediocrity has caught up to Call of Duty. Look at sales.

magiciandude3328d ago

@Abash

Hype sells like it did Final Fantasy XIII. The initial game outsold both sequels combined, however. The fool me once crowd caught on.

Gamble203328d ago

Mediocrity is catching up to call of duty also. Sales aren't anywhere close to what they were at their peak a few years ago and they continue to trend downward.

bouzebbal3328d ago

funny enough, it's the one i'm most interested in.
I like what Visceral do.

22CobraKing3327d ago

@Abash
Yup your right they also say that COD is the same thing but they still buy it. And the majority whine about dlc but they end up buying a $50 season pass.

Gamer19823327d ago

They should do what Activision do and spend those millions they get from sales paying off the media for good reviews. EA think they are too big for that clearly though.

antz11043327d ago

Lol I love all the CoD comments here, like ppl are trying to detract from the topic at hand. Come on, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

UltraNova3327d ago (Edited 3327d ago )

@antz1104

I dont know if you're new to games but its widely known that you cannot mention COD with out mentioning Battlefield and vice versa same goes for FIFA and Pro...its just how things are.

OT:

Although Hardline is seemingly mediocre (based on reviews)its still a 'fresh' idea and a thorough change of pace from the all familiar (and tired)yearly Battlefield release, which in my book warrants trying the game out! Something I cant say about COD and Assassins Creed...

antz11043327d ago

at Ultra,

No I've played my fair share of both CoD's and BF's, I just think it's a poor argument to say "well x scored this way for years so y should get a pass".

UltraNova3327d ago

@antz

Agreed. That's why all the 9s AC Unity received were a tragic reminder of the state of AAA yearly release..

badz1493327d ago

lowest rated? is it as broken as BF4? if not, why? the POS BF4 should be rated a couple notches lower.

nicksetzer13328d ago

It's actually pretty good, in relation other battlefield games. That said. I am glad battlefield, cod, assassin's creed, etc are getting the cold shoulder. They need to, it is about time games start changing and returning to the time when a games goal was to be creative and fun, rather than a clone of game a or game b.

I think the low scores are more so a reflection of where gamers want the industry to go and less about the game being bad, seeing as it is pretty much on par with the previous games. Then again, I would never thought any game in the battlefield series was ever more than a 7/10 for me personally anyway.

OrangePowerz3328d ago

What gamers think about "where the industry should go" in their opinion should have no reflection on scores. I also think that's a horrible entitled view when gamers or the media try hard to push their agenda on how something should be. It's always so nice and easy to shout from the outside over the wall on how something should be done.

If a game is broken like BF4 or Unity sure give it a lower score, but don't give it a lower score because it's "another" BF or AC when it's a good game. I think that it is BS to score something low that's good because it's another game in the series.

Cupid_Viper_33328d ago

"I think the low scores are more so a reflection of where gamers want the industry to go and less about the game being bad"

Not to disagree with what you said, but these scores are not being given out by "gamers" though. This is merely 100 or so people who gets paid to give out their opinions.

And this is what bothers me the most about this. Is that we've somehow entrusted these people with the task of dictating where the insdustry goes next. Call it what you may, but it is my opinion that eversince the internet became the main new source for the gaming industry, I feel like things have gone downhill.

The Nintendo, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2 felt a lot more friendlier towards games of all sorts. We have allowed a bunch of untested amateurs, with no zero credibility to speak on our behalf, and dictate what is cool, and what isn't.

I think that's why Sony, ever since last gen was trying to come up with a way to combat this. They first introduced PS+ not just as another way to make money, but also to give people the chance to try games that media had shunned for no reasons. And now they're again pushing the envelop with SharePlay, where real/actual gamers can have their friends try a game and see for themselves if it's worth their money or not. You know...like it always used to be before this whole viral internet thing of "Uncharted 4 got delayed, DOOMSDAY! no games left on the PS4!"

We always have the option of taking back our collective voice and not let these fake journos wield it against us. That's part of the reason why they try to keep us divided as a group with flamebait after flaimbait. It's easy and brings in lots of controversy and they can grow their bank accounts as well.

The alternative would involve some actual journalism, where credentials are necessary, and your reputation and job depends on the actual work you do. Where you can't just make up the news out of thin air, and where the information you provide HAS to be accurate. You know...accountability and such.

venom063328d ago

That score doesn't mean sh#%.... Hell Destiny got 70s but it's still pumped and hyped up.. Folks defended it like crazy.. Stupid a#% article from a EA/BF hater more than likely..

UltraNova3327d ago

@nick

Yes! This is exactly why my all time favorite shooters are BLACK and Killzone 2! They were different with a unique feel.

Yes lets just make generalizations about the game we haven't played. There's room for all type of games, dumb fun cop shooters and thought provoking story driven games are just a few of them. The more diversity in the industry the better.

Utalkin2me3328d ago (Edited 3328d ago )

"Yet lets just make generalizations about the game people have played." Returned mine on origin after about 2 hours. Along with a few other people i know. In my clear opinion this is the worst BF game i have ever played, and there is alot of people that i know and have talked to totally agree's with me.

Down below.

First off You have no real point so you use sarcastic tones to get non points across. Secondly, i never said my firends. You read what you want to read and spin words to fit your agenda. I could care less what anyone here thinks. Im giving my opinion and telling interactions with the game. Take it or leave it.

Orbilator3328d ago

i was bored with the beta,it just felt like a tacked on dlc, people just driving round in circles and it just seemed boring.

i dont know why but after many years of people asking

WHY CANT WE HAVE A BAD COMPANY GAME????????

i wont be getting hardline because BF4 had so manyonline issues, maybe in the future but by time its running right something else be along.

bondsmx3328d ago

Went to the 9pm release last night. Played for 3 hours or so, and got right back on this morning. By far, smoothest bf launch ever in my opinion. Haven't had a single issue at all.

thricetold3328d ago (Edited 3328d ago )

This is why this game gets so much hate in my opinion and i don't support EA games at all.

This is just dlc yet they are begging for more military themed entries. They won't support this but they will run out and support bf3, bf4, bf5 and all its military cloned brethren ...

Can't enjoy it if doesn't have op tanks blowing up everything huh?

WellyUK3328d ago

Because DICE say they don't know why people liked it... Personally not interested in another BC, would much rather see them do something futuristic along the lines of 2142 again or go back to WW2.

PersonMan3327d ago

bondsmx: It's the smoothest launch ever because nobody else has the game... hahaha.

For whatever reason, the gaming media is harsher on games than it ever has been this new/current generation. Only a couple of media outlets are fair in my opinion, Gametrailers being one of the few.

OrangePowerz3328d ago

Unless it's a broken as BF4, BF4 deserves to be the lowest rated BF game.

AngelicIceDiamond3328d ago

@Lukas I don't think its THAT bad but it looks to be mainly a cash grab.

BlackTar1873328d ago

I actually really enjoy this game.

Played every BF i think created and this one isn't anywhere close to the best but this one is solid IMO

I like the smaller maps for consoles and not the overpowered vehicles everywhere on smaller # maps the Consoles bring.

I though more people where happy with this game but i guess not. Well i'll enjoy my Cop car running over people dodging now worthwhile 203's.

Orbilator3328d ago (Edited 3328d ago )

Wasnt meant as personal, just a Scottish way of saying your way off the mark. Although sometimes its easy to upset folks on n4g when you have an opinion not in line with theirs. Still stand by what I said millions will still buy it and enjoy it. End off. I don't understand why people comment on articles about games they ain't gonna buy. Look at hate for order, still sold extremely well. If your a bf fan you'll love it, if your a cod fan you probably wont.

quenomamen3328d ago

Why you gotta bring COD into this?

Hellsvacancy3328d ago

I'm sticking with BF4, doubt I'll even buy Hardline used

jcnba283328d ago

It's getting better scores than The Order, so what's your response to that?

BC_Master_Haze3327d ago

That it's irrelevant what the order gets in comparison and that you're a troll.

I think the order is trash personally but I don't bring it up over and over like "your mom" or "that's what she said" jokes, because it gets old fast.

tjg593327d ago

I thought the order was a great game and I'm excited for the sequel

Saijahn3328d ago

You say it looks souless which says you haven't played it to forn credible opinion. The game is outright fun.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ3328d ago

I agree, Im waiting for BF5 or Bad Company 3 instead of getting this. Plus they are still putting things out for BF4

famoussasjohn3328d ago

Did you try the recent beta? When first announced, I was against it completely. The most recent beta changed that and will be picking it up today.

3-4-53328d ago

* On the Demo, The one Main 64 player Conquest map was actually one of the best if not THE best Battlefield map I've ever played on.

That said....it felt very......dated.

RedMotive3327d ago

And BF4 wasn't?
I like it.
A lot.

DLConspiracy3327d ago

Its not that bad. Playing the game basing your opinion off a glance or basing it off of other peoples opinions are two separate things. The campaign alone is completely different than any other BF game I know. Its different but not horrible.

Not to worry EA just had the devs do 50 more interviews to flood the news feeds with so it must be GOTY.

BlackTar1873328d ago

TLOU MP is one of the most under the radar amazing MP games ever made. Skill and tactics win the day in tlou

SmokingMonkey3328d ago

Very true,

Most games have Auto aim, while TLOU has auto-UnAim

How many times have you lined up a walking Clicker, and at the last second, he shifts! Even when you max out your aim, you still sway. (just like in real life! wow)

The ONLY time you get Auto aim in TLOU is when you are hanging upside down! and that part was still hard!

My #1 game of all time!

Pay no attention to the troll, maybe he really does enjoy BF Hard more than those other franchises.

bocajbee3327d ago

Actually, if you play TLOU on easy it has Auto Aim

WilDRangeRfc3327d ago

Agreed it is amazing I beast on it too

Waffles113328d ago

I completely agree with this. Nothing gets me more turned on than playing an army game with a bunch of tough men fighting together. It's a tough lifestyle as a hardcore gamer, as my fingers are starting to chafe from playing the game, fapping, or sometimes doing both at the same time. Alright guys, I have to go prep for another round of gaming with downing stacks of mountain dew while flexing in my leapord banana hammock briefs. Man it's a rough lifestyle, but we deal.

I don't like BF4. I think BF4 is more "BF3 3 Mod" than Hardline a BF mod.
I have BF3 premium, and bf4 premium, barely played both.
Played bad company 2 almost 600hs.

gamer93328d ago

Ya i don't get the whole reskin / mod talk. BF4 was NOT very different from BF3. Hardline is quite different in terms of game modes, gadgets, and setting

Utalkin2me3328d ago

First off BF4 shouldnt be that much different then BF3. Its the next release in the actual BF series. Hardline is supposed to be a completely different game, just under the BF tag. And i dont feel like it is, i was told it has cop cars so it has to be different.

The problem is not that Hardline is like or not like BF 3 or 4. It's just not that good of a game to be honest, in my opinion. It honeslty feels more COD'ish.

Battlefield 1, Hardline, BF4 Servers Are Being Taken Offline by Cheaters; EA Silent on Issue

Cheaters & hackers have been causing grief on Battlefield 1, Hardline & BF4 servers, with nonstop DDoS attacks among other things. Unfortunately, EA has remained silent about it.

-Foxtrot759d ago

Course they are silent, they are hoping people flock to 2042

gamesftw250758d ago

Maybe it was a inside job then haha.

jeromeface758d ago

wouldnt be the first time, titanfall 1+2 anyone?

PapaBop758d ago

Not even if they paid me.. EA always do this with old games with less money potential, if this was Ultimate Team, they'd address and sort it faster than stories could spread. Why invest time in their products when they will just dump it in the following years? Then again EA never could see the forest for the trees.

Inverno758d ago

I imagine after those games were given out for free a couple months back through Amazon, anything that makes people go to 2042 is a plus for them

XiNatsuDragnel759d ago

They want people to go on 2042. My theory

excaliburps758d ago

Nah. I think they can't do anything about it or they want to sink money into fixing it.

Pudge102888758d ago (Edited 758d ago )

EA owns all BF servers so yes, they can do something about it but they refuse to because they dont want ppl playing their old games instead of the new one. Its EA we’re talking about here

pr33k33758d ago

if this happened in 2042, they'd have something to say. which is weird, considering battlefield 1 has more players on steam right now.

Pudge102888758d ago

Its so obvious that EA is doing this or hired ppl to mess up the games so that we’d be forced to have just 1 Battlefield working.

FPS_D3TH758d ago

Honestly it’s probably the devs themselves. They did an update to bf4 way back that kinda made assault rifles doo doo in hopes that people would flock to BF1 cuz BF4 was too perfect

Ranking All The Battlefield Games

From Xfire: "With the next game being a return to the classic XX42 formula, now is as good a time as any to make an utterly definitive and in no possible way controversial ranking of the Battlefield games we've enjoyed over the years, with which undoubtedly nobody will take issue in the comment section. Right? Okay then - here we go, from least good to best."

OMNlPOTENT1030d ago

Battlefield 1 above 4 and Bad Company 2? Not a chance.

Ruegrong1030d ago

battlefield 4 was broken as shit on launch same as battlefield 3

isarai1029d ago

Bad company 2 was still my favorite, sure it was a bit gimped compared to the rest if the series but more fun and far more satisfying weapon unlocks.

XxINFERNUSxX1029d ago (Edited 1029d ago )

Battlefield 1942 + both expansions are my all time favorite, it can still be played online to this day. Vietnam would be my 2nd, 3rd Battlefield 2, last BF2142 the rest I didn't care for. They really need to remake from the ground up in the new engine BF1942. Next year it will be 20 yrs since it was released. If they don't at least to me would be a disservice. ☹

The Life & Death of the Season Pass

In a time not too long ago, a foul infection spread its way through the games industry. It was a vile illness that burrowed itself in deep, feeding off of greed and the incessant begging of teens desperate to receive funds from their parents. It divided friend groups, suffocated player bases, and was common practice up until recently—it was the season pass.

IanTH1258d ago (Edited 1258d ago )

This doesn't make a ton of sense. Season Passes may slowly fade out for multiplayer games, perhaps, but I don't see them going anywhere in games that are primarily single player. They don't seem to touch on this either, with every game being some kind of online/multiplayer/GaaS title, and nary a mention of a single player game - at least that I saw.

I mean, games like Borderlands 3 just asked people to buy in to the 2nd season pass. Battle passes can't really take over in places that have story driven content and such. So I'd say perhaps they missed a bit of a necessary distinction but, since they claim the death of season pass is at hand, it appears they may have missed how single player games factor into this entirely.
