Hardline is the lowest rated Battlefield so far

At the time of writing, Battlefield Hardline has a score of 76 on PS4 on Metacritic – a figure well below that of Battlefield Bad Company 2 (88) and Battlefield 3 (89).

Is Hardline still good enough for Battlefield fans or has Visceral Games taken the series a step in the wrong direction?

Same here. Im a bf guy but ill skip this. I rather wait a week for blood borne. Seems more like a dlc than a new franchise.
Sane with ff type zero. I really want this game but for 59$ (even tho ff15 demo is included ) is far too much for a upgraded psp game imo.
i may give in if my check is high enough but...that price is surprisingly high. Ffx had a much higher make over and it was only 29$....smh

It's actually pretty good, in relation other battlefield games. That said. I am glad battlefield, cod, assassin's creed, etc are getting the cold shoulder. They need to, it is about time games start changing and returning to the time when a games goal was to be creative and fun, rather than a clone of game a or game b.

I think the low scores are more so a reflection of where gamers want the industry to go and less about the game being bad, seeing as it is pretty much on par with the previous games. Then again, I would never thought any game in the battlefield series was ever more than a 7/10 for me personally anyway.

What gamers think about "where the industry should go" in their opinion should have no reflection on scores. I also think that's a horrible entitled view when gamers or the media try hard to push their agenda on how something should be. It's always so nice and easy to shout from the outside over the wall on how something should be done.

If a game is broken like BF4 or Unity sure give it a lower score, but don't give it a lower score because it's "another" BF or AC when it's a good game. I think that it is BS to score something low that's good because it's another game in the series.

Not to disagree with what you said, but these scores are not being given out by "gamers" though. This is merely 100 or so people who gets paid to give out their opinions.

And this is what bothers me the most about this. Is that we've somehow entrusted these people with the task of dictating where the insdustry goes next. Call it what you may, but it is my opinion that eversince the internet became the main new source for the gaming industry, I feel like things have gone downhill.

The Nintendo, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2 felt a lot more friendlier towards games of all sorts. We have allowed a bunch of untested amateurs, with no zero credibility to speak on our behalf, and dictate what is cool, and what isn't.

I think that's why Sony, ever since last gen was trying to come up with a way to combat this. They first introduced PS+ not just as another way to make money, but also to give people the chance to try games that media had shunned for no reasons. And now they're again pushing the envelop with SharePlay, where real/actual gamers can have their friends try a game and see for themselves if it's worth their money or not. You know...like it always used to be before this whole viral internet thing of "Uncharted 4 got delayed, DOOMSDAY! no games left on the PS4!"

We always have the option of taking back our collective voice and not let these fake journos wield it against us. That's part of the reason why they try to keep us divided as a group with flamebait after flaimbait. It's easy and brings in lots of controversy and they can grow their bank accounts as well.

The alternative would involve some actual journalism, where credentials are necessary, and your reputation and job depends on the actual work you do. Where you can't just make up the news out of thin air, and where the information you provide HAS to be accurate. You know...accountability and such.

First off BF4 shouldnt be that much different then BF3. Its the next release in the actual BF series. Hardline is supposed to be a completely different game, just under the BF tag. And i dont feel like it is, i was told it has cop cars so it has to be different.

In fact i cant believe its on the same engine as BF4 which even today looks great!

In my opinion i prefer the art style of advanced warfare over hardline.
Its astonishing how bland and dull the lighting and textures look.

Whats worse they didnt improve the tech at all, the water is laughable, lighting is bland, textures r muddy, its just so bad looking!

My point is people pick and chose when reviews actually matter based on their bias towards a game. If you want that game to be successful and it gets bad reviews then it's "reviews are stupid and they don't matter" if its a game you don't like or don't want to succeed then the bad reviews are justified "see i knew it was going to be bad, look at all these reviews". Doesn't make much sense to me. Either reviews are relevant or they are not. That does not change based on one's biases.

It's not for everyone but form a hardcore battlefield player perspective it's nice to see the small changes visceral has made. The game is really fun and if you loved battlefield 4 I recommend you at least rent it and give it a shot. An example of a small tweak is just something like the load times they are about 10-15 seconds long, far improving battlefield 4's load times.

It had some good qualities but I'm soooo tired of these types of shooters. I played way too many COD and BF and their clones/side projects last gen.

I have way more fun in cooperative and team based competitive online rather than kill or be killed K/D games. Strange, I somehow managed to get very much into FIFA this gen and I never even played soccer. It's fun playing will all your friends on a team though, in a game that REQUIRES teamplay unlike most competitive shooters where you feel everyone is out for that precious K/D ratio and no gives a crap about much else.

I think of it's more of a case of the FPS genre becoming out-dated. I have Battlefield Hardline and have been having a great time with it; the graphics and flow of the game on the PS4 is amazing. I like it better than Battlefield 4.

On the flip-side, I don't trust critics. They can be bought and with Bloodbourne coming out in a week, I wouldn't be surprised if there has been a few bills handed under the table here and there.

For my money and especially in light of the recent patches for BF4 it is simply the superior title. Battlefield 4 has been my go to multiplayer since Christmas, when I got the One.

That's not to say that I didn't enjoy Hardline, I guess if I was pushed I do still see it as a glorified expansion and thus currently over priced.

I played the beta extensively, and loved it. I purchased it for the PC as it looks and plays the best, and still love it. I don't see why everyone is bashing it? I have to admit, with so many new and older Xbox One titles running at or close to 1080p (verified via ign.com's list) it is a little insulting to me that EA made such little effort with that version. I'm no resolution whore but it just smacks of EA's same old MO.

The Metro Redux was put together in only a few months and managed 900p60 and looks stunning. Farcry 4 and COD aw ran well over 900p (1400x1080) with AW utilising dynamic scaling for 1080p in single player.

I can understand why it happened with BF4 at launch, post patch the game runs superbly and still looks better than Hardline, easily.

Not really sure why this game is getting so much hate. From what I've played, I think Visceral did a very nice job. Not a GOTY contender or outstanding by any means, but very solid and enjoyable so far. The SP campaign has actually managed to grip me, which all of the past BF iterations have failed to do. It's very episodic (e.g. says "last time on Hardline" when you resume... think Alan Wake), which I really like. Also, it has a drastically different pacing (e.g. much slower, stealthy, making arrests on criminals with warrants, analyzing/scanning evidence, stun guns, pistols only, etc.). And finally, it's actually a pretty long campaign. With 3 hours of play time logged on the SP, I just finished Chapter 3. There are 10 chapters total, so you can count on ~9-10 hours worth of SP content alone. And if you like your trophies/achievements, count on two full playthroughs, as you need to complete the game on Veteran to unlock and play on Hardline difficulty (removes button prompts and gives enemies more health). Having a good time with the MP too from the little I've played.

BFBC 2 Vietnam was a "skin/DLC." Hardline feels like much more than what Vietnam was (although I did enjoy Vietnam for what it was at the time, not trying to diss it).

Hardline has been the best battlefield game since BC2 on the X360.I played the whole 10 hours on EA access last week then went and bought it today for the XOne.The game runs smooth with no problems at all.The first couple of hours of the single player was awesome really enjoyed it.Already have 15 hours online logged in its just fun to play its that simple.EA has done a great job this past year with access and making sure their games are finished when they ship.It has shown since they have taken back the position of the number 1 publisher.I know we are in a time in gaming where its cool to trash developers and other companys.The fact is that has done got old so grow up.Then you have sony fanboys still sore due to the fact EA went with microsoft on access so we get the better deals.Hey that was sonys fault they was dumb enough to pass on it so get the hell over it already

wtf Does EA access have to do with anything? Talk about grasping at straws. The only sore ones are you MS fanboys who has to deal with yet ANOTHER 720p title.

Remember most reviews for hardline out now is for the single player portion of the game... MP will most likely get a higher score.

Cancelled my BH pre-order after trying out the Beta.
Seemed closer to a GTA wannabe than a BF game.

There has to be something better and worth the price in the pipeline.

And, I'm still busy playing the extremely challenging Destiny every single day with three level-31 characters, despite misgivings about some aspects of Bungie's management of the game. Could never say however that I did not get my money's worth from Destiny.
