Battlefield: Hardline DRM will lock your account if it registers too many hardware changes

PC hardware site Guru3D has discovered DRM hidden within Battlefield: Hardline that kicks off if the game detects you changing your hardware multiple times, locking your account.

Site runner Hilbert Hagedoorn discovered the software after testing out Hardline's performance on multiple graphics cards. Understandably, he's not best pleased.

Well supposedly there is a fix for it.

You have to head to EA headquarters, then bow down and say "All Hail EA". After such EA will have to verify your account and make sure you own BF3 and 4, Then pay a micro transaction fee to unlock your account. Easy peasy....

Khajiit863319d ago

Only had to do that twice this year so far. Been a easy year.

Spinal3319d ago

Looool that should be followed with 'Simples!!!'

kevinsheeks3319d ago

Don't fix what ain't broken buddy after i bowed down i was given a tour of EA's office. Of course I had to pay a premium of 59.99+ and after every door a minimum of 15.99 followed by micro"snacktions" a neat name for all the snacks on the way, which didn't invade the overall tour so I didnt see a problem.

They even invited me back for when they expand deeming I pre-purchase to get early access.

Windows has had the same thing since Millenium. It's fairly easy to get re-activated, though it is an annoyance.

DragonKnight3319d ago

And it's still the stupidest DRM ever. Then again, I heard that Windows 10 makes changing your harddrive an annoyance too (don't quote me on that) so we may have a new champion.

rainslacker3318d ago

I'm not going to speculate on the DRM they'll have with Win10. MS may have shied away from it on the console due to the massive backlash, but PC(maybe not gamers, but in general) have readily accepted it as par for the course.

It hasn't stopped piracy to the tech minded, just for the casual pirate who has no tech knowledge and just gives their copy of Windows to their grandmother. It's become an annoyance in the guise of convienance because apparently you are supposed to be able to have your desktop anywhere using Live login...which isn't something I use, but i did do a lot of hardware testing when doing some game work so the authentication was annoying. Luckily I got a distro from school which had the check, but used the same key for thousands of students, so it wasn't an issue anymore.

Tetsujin3319d ago

I'd thought there was an account you could log into for account verification? Maybe some sort of "this account can only be logged into one PC at a time" would make more sense.

Watch, some response from EA stating "this is unintentional and we'll fix the issue."

RedDeadLB3319d ago

Yeah, it just screams unintentional, just like Origin unintentionally kept (or still keeps) a detailed log of every application on your computer :)

Maybe they're actually stupid enough to go that "unintentional" route.

JoeMcCallister3319d ago

While yes this is troubling and ultimately a pretty BS system if it indeed exists, I'd like to see more proof that it's a built in DRM - all we have here is one person saying that they're having issues. I'm not outright dismissing the person but I haven't seen any mentions from Digital Foundry of issues when they tested at least 3 different cards ( http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

Just need to see more reports of it to consider it a true problem or if it's not just a one-off.

Battlefield 1, Hardline, BF4 Servers Are Being Taken Offline by Cheaters; EA Silent on Issue

Cheaters & hackers have been causing grief on Battlefield 1, Hardline & BF4 servers, with nonstop DDoS attacks among other things. Unfortunately, EA has remained silent about it.

-Foxtrot759d ago

Course they are silent, they are hoping people flock to 2042

gamesftw250758d ago

Maybe it was a inside job then haha.

jeromeface757d ago

wouldnt be the first time, titanfall 1+2 anyone?

PapaBop758d ago

Not even if they paid me.. EA always do this with old games with less money potential, if this was Ultimate Team, they'd address and sort it faster than stories could spread. Why invest time in their products when they will just dump it in the following years? Then again EA never could see the forest for the trees.

Inverno758d ago

I imagine after those games were given out for free a couple months back through Amazon, anything that makes people go to 2042 is a plus for them

XiNatsuDragnel759d ago

They want people to go on 2042. My theory

excaliburps758d ago

Nah. I think they can't do anything about it or they want to sink money into fixing it.

Pudge102888758d ago (Edited 758d ago )

EA owns all BF servers so yes, they can do something about it but they refuse to because they dont want ppl playing their old games instead of the new one. Its EA we’re talking about here

pr33k33758d ago

if this happened in 2042, they'd have something to say. which is weird, considering battlefield 1 has more players on steam right now.

Pudge102888758d ago

Its so obvious that EA is doing this or hired ppl to mess up the games so that we’d be forced to have just 1 Battlefield working.

FPS_D3TH758d ago

Honestly it’s probably the devs themselves. They did an update to bf4 way back that kinda made assault rifles doo doo in hopes that people would flock to BF1 cuz BF4 was too perfect

Ranking All The Battlefield Games

From Xfire: "With the next game being a return to the classic XX42 formula, now is as good a time as any to make an utterly definitive and in no possible way controversial ranking of the Battlefield games we've enjoyed over the years, with which undoubtedly nobody will take issue in the comment section. Right? Okay then - here we go, from least good to best."

OMNlPOTENT1029d ago

Battlefield 1 above 4 and Bad Company 2? Not a chance.

Ruegrong1029d ago

battlefield 4 was broken as shit on launch same as battlefield 3

isarai1029d ago

Bad company 2 was still my favorite, sure it was a bit gimped compared to the rest if the series but more fun and far more satisfying weapon unlocks.

XxINFERNUSxX1029d ago (Edited 1029d ago )

Battlefield 1942 + both expansions are my all time favorite, it can still be played online to this day. Vietnam would be my 2nd, 3rd Battlefield 2, last BF2142 the rest I didn't care for. They really need to remake from the ground up in the new engine BF1942. Next year it will be 20 yrs since it was released. If they don't at least to me would be a disservice. ☹

The Life & Death of the Season Pass

In a time not too long ago, a foul infection spread its way through the games industry. It was a vile illness that burrowed itself in deep, feeding off of greed and the incessant begging of teens desperate to receive funds from their parents. It divided friend groups, suffocated player bases, and was common practice up until recently—it was the season pass.

This doesn't make a ton of sense. Season Passes may slowly fade out for multiplayer games, perhaps, but I don't see them going anywhere in games that are primarily single player. They don't seem to touch on this either, with every game being some kind of online/multiplayer/GaaS title, and nary a mention of a single player game - at least that I saw.

I mean, games like Borderlands 3 just asked people to buy in to the 2nd season pass. Battle passes can't really take over in places that have story driven content and such. So I'd say perhaps they missed a bit of a necessary distinction but, since they claim the death of season pass is at hand, it appears they may have missed how single player games factor into this entirely.
