If the WiiU doesn't appeal to you then by all means don't buy one. But I must say, I was playing Lego Marvel Super Heroes with my 5yr old son he was using the television and I was using the Gamepad, and not having to look at a split screen is well worth the price of admission.
It's going to take years for the ps4 to start paying off as far as third party support goes, since most developers are going to develop for both generations which means the biggest improvements will just be shinier skins. The Wii u on the other hand has franchises that are second to none that will be in glorious HD for the first time.
The Wii U gamepad is priceless when it comes to two player CO-OP. Each person having dedicated screen really has the potential to bring back the on the couch multiplayer.
The music is fantastic from the winter wonderland theme to the beat blocks.

Super Mario3D World is a real 3D Mario game and may just be their best one yet. I have a PS4 and 3D Mario gets the lion share of my time, it's just a great game.
I'm very curious to see how the numbers were compiled. The WiiU is Nintendo's first console to really offer full downloadable games. I know I can't speak for Japan but I know personally Mario is one of the games I have to play without being bothered with swapping disks. If does numbers include downloads then that may be cause for concern otherwise it's just incomplete data that can't be compared.
If the situation is looked at objectively then the Wii U would be the obvious choice this holiday season if you already have a ps3 or 360. The main reason folks bought a Wii was for Wii Sports. It certainly wasn't for it's cutting edge graphics.
It's pretty pathetic how much the PlayStation and Xbox brands are heavily subsidized by their parent companies. Nintendo have to make smart moves they can't afford to play throw money and see what sticks which is what Sony does MS just nickle and dime it's customers and use that money to throw at third party publishers for timed exclusives. Nintendo can't afford such tactics and also they don't have to, their software sales speak for itself.
If the past is any indication those games should easily top the charts this gen. Grand Theft Auto is the only title that comes anywhere near Nintendo software sales.
I think that is the biggest issue the industry has against Nintendo. As strange as it seems when folks talk about who one the last gen they only seem to mention MS and Sony even though Nintendo outsold both by a large margin. Also when it comes to software sales Nintendo manages to sale Tens of millions on one console and barely get a in the software sales charts.

The term "Lipstick on a pig" comes to mind. Ryse being a perfect example, the game looks great, but where is the depth. I have a lot of fun playing on the Wii U with my family. I'm sure there will be some titles being released from Sony and MS that will eventually justify my purchase but in the mean time I know Nintendo isn't just trying to dazzle me with visuals, they put a lot of emphasis on gameplay and fun factor which at the end of the day is my only concern.
The Wii U clearly has the best browser and best game selection at the moment. That being said prepare to be attacked for stating the obvious.
The Wii U does not appeal to the pseudo "mature" gamer. Families especially those with small children are the major demographic market for the WiiU and once the right software gets released, ie Mario 3D world, their sales will greatly improve. With all the media attention on Sony and MS right now the WiiU will be a sleeper hit holiday season. And one of the best things about capitalism is the markets provide something for everyone. So let just enjoy gaming.

Seriously the level of fanboidom is absurd. I just made it home to see if I may have been mistaken with the PS4 browser not paying YouTube videos. Well I must say my objective vision is not allowing me to see something that is not there. The PS4 at the moment DOES NOT SUPPORT FLASH OR YOUTUBE VIDEOS. Just stop with the irrational fanboism.
