IncGamers' Peter Parrish looks back at 'stealth-style' games of this year that impressed and what made them stand out.
"Thief: The Dark Project was the first title to teach me the effectiveness of a simple, subverted concept. Thief asked: “what if you hid from the monsters in an FPS instead of shooting them?” It was a straightforward question with a revelatory answer, and the game’s interlocking mechanics can all be traced back to it. The function of light and shadow (because you need to be able to stay out of sight); the superb sound design (because you need to both be able to gauge your own noise levels and hear other people’s); and the lovely bag of gadgetry (because sometimes you need a hand slipping past trouble)."
From outer space to stealing in Europe, The Epic Games Store has two free games you might like.
The Thief game series has had many ups-and-downs, and 2014's reboot showed a great deal of promise nearly a decade ago.
This would be such a great franchise to reboot. A darker game than Dishonored, but focused around stealth and large scale heists from an oppressive monarchy.
That's probably my dream game. I love immersive sims and stealth!
The last one was a trainwreck and has been in the bargain bin since just after launch. If they bring it back, they need a massive change in direction.
Jesus the last installment sells at about 2 euro and even that is over paying for it. Absolutely diabolical game
When Hitman 3 recently changed its name to Hitman World of Assassination, fans had no idea how meaningful the moment was. On the outside it looked like a simple thing: Hitman 3 would now be known by this name and include levels from Hitman 2 and 3 - the trilogy would all be in one place. But on the inside, at IO Interactive, much more was going on.
You mean destroyed it with this tethered single-player campaign BS... And only the first few levels of the third modern game were on the disc! I'll never support this crap at any price-point! They've lost me as a customer.
