DmC: Devil May Cry: Vergil’s Downfall Review [Capsule Computers]

Jahanzeb Khan from Capsule Computers wrote:

The much anticipated follow up to DmC: Devil May Cry arrives in the form of downloadable content titled Vergil’s Downfall, and this is indeed a direct follow up to where the original game ended. Now, just to be clear, this isn’t the true ending deliberately left out by Capcom; this isn’t the same stunt that they pulled with Asura’s Wrath. Nor is the content already present on disc with the DLC simply unlocking it... no, this is a massive download weighing in at over 2GB, featuring content that serves as a supplementary sequel of sorts.

Sounds like they're setting up the sequel.

AsimLeonheart4070d ago

They intended to release a sequel but after the sales bomb they are trapped in a limbo themselves. Anyway, I am baffled by the denial of the media to acknowledge that their highly reviewed game flopped so hard. "much anticipated followup??" Are you serious?? Maybe that is why the game has not even sold 650,000 by now. /s

Ryder494070d ago

It hasn't even sold 650,000? Really?

That seems pretty low for all the marketing and critical acclaim it's gotten.

AsimLeonheart4070d ago (Edited 4070d ago )

@Ryder49
Yes, sales have completely stagnated and the game sold barely 12,000 units globally in its sixth week. Hell, it got outsold by Bioshock, a game that was released 5 years ago. MGR which is also a HnS game outsold its lifetime sales in the first week by selling 794,000 units. CAPCOM had to lower their SHIPPED target to 1.2 million from 2 million by the end of their fiscal year in March even though they had already SHIPPED 1 million for launch. By the look of things, the way sales have not even reached 650,000 by its 6th week, the game will fail to meet its lowered target as well. The rest of the 1 million from launch are still sitting on shelves so CAPCOM wont be able to ship 0.2 million more. The official confirmation of the scenario will be here by the end of March when fiscal year ends and CAPCOM releases its financial information and sales.

If there is a a sequel, NT will not be behind it I assure you.

militissanctus4070d ago

Holy cow. Over 2 GB? That's bigger than the newest CoD map pack.

zerocrossing4070d ago

8.5/10? Probably as representative a score as all the 9's and 10's the main game was getting...

Well I'll play this just to see if it's any good but I'm not holding back my criticism if it isn't.

Donnywho4070d ago

Man this game is so awesome. I bit the bullet and bought it on psn after playing MGRising for about a week straight. Between the two you basically have everything you need in a hack n slash. I was impressed the whole game.

"The much anticipated follow up to DmC: Devil May Cry" Yeah right /s

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC6d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer6d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya6d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde6d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP6d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Devil May Cry 5, the latest iteration in the iconic DMC franchise by Capcom, still holds its own as a fantastic hack-and-slash in 2024."
