We're terrible with names? Are you? Well we’ve decided to start this series to help acquaint ourselves with some names in gaming, hence the title. So, as we're learning a little bit about this stellar group of designers, sound technicians, musicians, writers, programmers, etc…, hopefully you can learn a little something about them yourself.
The classic fantasy RPG series Wizardry is apparently getting a blockchain game, which is targeting a late 2022-early 2023 release in the West.
From Vice: "Yesterday's organized walkout by Riot Games employees is an almost unheard-of labor action by games industry workers, but it's not without precedent. Developers have been dealing with unethical or irresponsible labor conditions for about as long as people have been making games—believe me, I know this firsthand both as a career developer and someone who served on the board of the IGDA—and many of the dynamics driving labor action at Riot have cropped up at other studios, at very different times in the history of this industry. In interviews for my book about the development of the brilliant 1999 PC tactical RPG Jagged Alliance 2, I learned about a similar labor action."
Look up any list of the greatest strategy games on PC and without a doubt, the name Jagged Alliance will show up somewhere.
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord was one of my first PC games. I was probably six or seven, and I still remember the very sleek looking black box with red foil text. I remember creating a thief named after my friend Kyle, and locking him with a password, only to forget said password. I tried for so long to remember that password.
