The PS3 is on the rise in North America

When Sony initiated the 40GB PlayStation 3 at a lower price in Japan, it was instantly received with great success. When November 2nd, came around, the Sony rolled the dice in North America to see if triumph will shine over the PS3 in the more dominant market.

Since then, the word has been that the PlayStation 3 is seeing great growth in North America since the addition of the 40GB PS3 model. However, Sony never officially came out and gave confirmation on the 40GB's success in North America.

febuary with the release of little big planet is when the ps3 will outsell the 360 by world wide margins. to me thats the only BLOCKBUSTER out at that time. and devil may cry will help the ps3 more then the 360. and lost planet will also help the ps3 espicially in japan. now is not the ps3's time but it WILL COME.

I’m going to be the first to say, it’s honestly too early to call anything. Trends have shown anytime you lower the price of a console it sales a lot for a month or 2 and then tappers off again. The biggest question to ask is where do these sales put the PS3 in terms of its competitors and is this really an indication of a true change in customers view to the PS3 as opposed to being a regular increase in sales because of the price drop?

the ps3 has been doing very well in it's first year. the ps2 in it's first year only sold 7 million units and sony said that there target from the begining this year was 6 million , but they also said they wanted to get to 11million for this christmas which they would only have to sale 5million more consoles to get to which in my opinion is preety realistic but if they really want to get there sony is gonna have to do some heavy duty marketing

How horrid, the PS3 sales. For a brand name that dominated the last 2 generations of video games, to move to dead last with horrid worldwide sales of the PS3, is brutal for Sony.

Now, on the matter. I agree. PS3 have way more value on 399 USD, even without BC and 2 USB ports, than have Xbox 360 in any SKU...

Obviously I mean hardware straight. If we got on Software point, you have to give it for MS by making it home work (there is a better library now).

Still, I'm sure happy with my PS3 now, I really don't care that much who outsold who last week aside from the fact that if PS3 is competitive we get third parties love... Anyway, I don't have many complins now, huge differece comparing to when I bough the console (january) 'till like E3 (where some good news come). It is just not on the rout to total domination. This time last gen people had completely forgot about the Dreamcast. The PS2 lost its competition. The difference this time is The 360 has stuck around and is still out selling the PS3 also. The Sony game console has better competition that releases games that are demanding attention.

Over all up is better than down for any company. I just really hope you gamers are having fun, that is most important thing. Even more important than beating XBOX360 in polarity just have fun. The Original XBOX was never the most popular...but I had allot of fun. Popularity did not matter what mattered was I could still go to the game store and get new games.

I mite be up for the PS3 purchase one day when they have a game to pull me in. Until then I’m not purchasing for the promise. I will purchase it for satisfaction. Right now just owning one and playing with themes and painting a pale horse white or hyping lack luster games isn’t my thing.

In all respect if you’re just a Playstation gamer or console collector who gets down like that with your Playstation like a PC gamer does with his PC. I know you’re having fun because of the way you consume your games. Much respect to you and real gamers every where.

True the 360 is still rising but if you look at the numbers the PS3 is cutting in on the 360 market percentage. The PS3 is taking about 1 percent a week since the price drop from the console market. Not saying VGchartz is 100% fact but look at there site and you will see there projections. Next month it will be clearer but that is how it is looking now. According to vgchartz the 360 has less that 40% of the market now and last month they had like 45%

I got Mass Effect and will start it after Uncharted is done, so I guess Ninja Gaiden 2. Alan Wake MAYBE if I don't feel like playing on PC. Cry On, Lost Odyssey, and probably Too Human if it doesn't suck as much as the previews have been leading me to believe. I've wanted the last one since it was slated for PS1 and then the Gamecube, so I'm kinda weary about the super long dev time and constant platform changes.

Still pissed Frame City Killer got cancelled and Magna Carta 2 would have been rad if it were ever coming out. I'm hoping to see City of Metronome next year as well as I've heard nothing of it since it was announced and it looked SO badass. This should be no surprise to anyone. It is respectable that Sony is keeping quiet (they are probably waiting for the figures after the holidays to make an announcement). We should all keep in mind that while PS3 sales are on the rise, this does not mean it has automatically beat out 360. PS3 is fighting for North America, largely more the US than Canada (it already has 360 beat everywhere else in the world). As long as it can maintain a slight lead over 360 as a new common trend throughout most of '08, it will be increasing its user base with exponential momentum that should allow it to completely overtake, the then tired 360, by (my estimation)Q4 '09. Until then, I expect titles like the billion dollar franchise (GT), FFXIII, and LBP to give the PS3 a momentous boost up 360's proverbial ass. These titles, especially and emphatically Gran Turismo-should have a similar effect for PS3 as Halo 3 did for 360. I have no doubt that we will look back on '08 as the year PS3 "came to play (no pun intended)". What I see here (as far as trends)for the 360, is much what happened with MS's last effort-the Xbox. Xbox was embraced in the US market but was largely pushed away everywhere else, especially the Asian markets. This is why Xbox was, overall, a failure-and 360 is following in its footsteps. After six years MS Game Division, Xbox Branch, has lost over four billion dollars, and hasn't turned a profit yet. Even with Halo 3, which for a supposed superweapon, has dramatically lost steam with the mainstream (where the money is), and can be relegated to achieving sales only with the hardcore gamers left that are interested in it. Truly, I think it was a surprise to gamers and loyalists of all systems when the 360 was actually announced, considering that the consensus both in the gaming community and amongst professionals was that MS was going to bow out of the console market after the travesty that was Xbox. MS may still find itself bowing out in the future, or may decide to minimize the production of their consoles to eliminate exportation and make their console a "domestic only" product. Afterall, in the console market, the world has been telling MS that they don't like them very much, for a long time now. When will MS get the hint? My theories and opinions are based largely on a "its all about the games" ideology...and for PS3 (not 360) in 2008 its "all about the games."

Some of you just assume that the Playstation brand will just return as king of the consoles. I think some of you hardcore Sony guys are in for a rude awakening and it’s already apparent. This current generation is the most competitive generation I have ever seen and the market is split three ways. (It’s not even but pretty damn close) Some of you are probably too young and fail to realize the history of gaming consoles can never be truly predicted, just look at how the Wii and 360 have stolen the Playstation thunder. I have seen overly hyped consoles fail and sleeper consoles succeed. Odyssey, Atari, Intellivision, Colecovision, Sega, Neo Geo, NEC, TurboGrafx – 16, SNK Playmore, 3DO and Phantom ring any bells? For any console fan to assume yours is untouchable is just like I said above “delusional”.

Although 2008 looks good for the Playstation, I don’t think Sony can catch that 10 million lead that MS and Nintendo have. I hate to rain on your parades but Sony won’t reach that 120 million mark it did last generation. My fear is by the time Sony gets it’s act together MS and Nintendo will already be heading to their next generation, forcing Sony to abandon it’s 10 year plan (wich isn’t a good thing) I hope both Sony and MS learn from their mistakes of the current generation, MS with it’s hardware and Sony with it’s slightly long list of crap that plegues the system.

I know some people here hate EA but EA has been in the home gaming buisness longer than any company and there is a reason for it. EA jumps on trends in the marketplace, If one platform sells games more then the others it’s only natural for a software company to jump on that platform. MS attach rate is over 6 games, that shines a hell of a lot brighter than Sony’s 2. Xbox owners by games like they are drugs and I don’t know about any of you but that is the #1 reason publishers and developers make games (to sell them.)

Now I’m a lover of games but I’m also realistic and for me to assume my console of choice will be number 1 every generation is downright arrogent and will ultamatly be proven wrong. IMO hardcore Sony fans are in for a long disapointing generation and it’s not MS or Nintendos fault, they are in it for the same reasons Sony is. You guys should take a hint from Xbox owners and start putting the blame where it should go on Sony’s shoulders, because if you ever been to the Xbox forums those Xbox fans let MS know everything that’s on their minds. Sony, MS and Nintendo are not perfect they all f**k up from time to time, but to think your sh*t don’t stink is well… your just being a dumb a-hole.

Oh..Come on now Fanboys....Christmas is just around the corner, more people buy "THINGS" right now than any other time of year. Everything is sold more, including the PS3. Taking the upsurge in sales as something of a turnaround for Sony is just foolish. All of the 3 venders expect higher console sales this time of year.

But one thing here is that the 360 slaughters the PS3 month after month in North America. The PS3 is in dead last, and a long long way from catching up to the Wii or 360. 2008 also ain't gonna turn out very well for the PS3, not with a $399 price tag.

Truth is both consoles will have enough support for Dev's not to be able to "Overlook" them and they will both have cool first party games. FF13, Gears 2, God of War 3 and Ninja Gaiden 2 for example. They will both do fine and who cares which sells more in then end. As long as they both have a huge market gaming will be good for everyone.

IMHO I prefer 1 over the other but do respect the other one for what it offers which is a lot. So stop crying and go play all these bad ass games on either system of your choice. I will be playing COD4 which should get GOTY and is Multi Plat and equally good on both. Just depends on what controller you prefer.

Alot of hardcore gamers do buy and Xbox but that might turn out to be a big downfall. PS brand also has a hardcore gamer section but a huge casual gamer section as well (120 million PS2s out there) tk also posted a comment about MS undermining other brands instead of displaying there future to the masses. I wanna see whats out there game wise. I dont wanna hear about PS3 sweatshops, Paid child actors telling everyone his PS3 is dusty on network TV or How a certain MS owned internet forum (IGN and Gamespot) runs down Assassins creed just to hinder PS3 sales growth (and they did)... After all the price cutts and it finally found the sweet spot for sales in North America. Unfortunately the software sales is still lacking and that's what matters most. The 360 doesn't need a price cut yet since it's still selling well. But when it does come, it will be 2007 all over again.

The only people who said that the PS3 was going to destroy 2007 were the Fanboys, not people who actually knew what they were talking about. There is no way in hell a console that is $600 is going to dominate when it doesn't have alot of games that will attract people to the system and is also that expensive. That being said the PS3 will have a great year in 08 because the price is more acceptable and more of it's known franchises are coming out.
