Bungie's Parting Words to Halo Fans

"So, this isn't a goodbye. It isn't The End. Instead, it's the very beginning of a new journey that will stretch the limits of what we are capable of. Ancient engines are now rumbling deep within the heart of our studio, and their energy will power us through the upcoming darkness. Like all dark times ours will be broken first by a single strand of light -- a tether reaching out to bind us all together again. One day, we will awaken in a wondrous new place and we will remember just what it was that drew us together at the beginning of it all. We will look up to the heavens, and find hope."

Well, if nothing else we will all see if Halo was luck or just the end product of a great development team. It doesn't seem to me that Bungie ever wanted to be acquired, but they definitely needed the capital to be independent. Microsoft, the Halo ip and the fans made it possible. Now we can all wait and see if they are great devs or crazy. Personally I hope it's a little of both. :)

Good luck and thanks for the memories.

Agreed. People may give them heat for churning out a ton of Halo games but 1) they were all at least good and 2) the capital they attained from that franchise allowed them to do what they're doing now: going independent. I'm excited to see where they'll go next.

Bungie are one of the greatest develpoment studios of all time.....Not just for their games, their innovation with halo.....Theatre mode, forge, balanced multiplayer, best matchmaking, party system but also for their website, stat tracking, support of charities, weekly updates & their love for their fans....we gamers owe them a lot....

All you halo haters will change your tune once their new world is released....Even the nay sayers will experience why they are so good @ what they do......

I can't wait....Long live bungie....Thx for the memories.....

zerocrossing4674d ago

Im looking forward to what they'll come up with next =)

Inside_out4674d ago

.
Thank you Bungie for some great memories...NOW GO AWAY!!!

It seems like these guys are always thanking everyone...we get it, we got it when you launched Reach last year. Now stop dragging it out every month.

If you really want to thank the fans, then how about some more info on the projects that you guys are working on. What happen to your mo-cap game that you said was as good or better than L.A Noire??? When is this new Activision published title going to launch??? I doubt Activision wants to wait 2-4 years for a game.

At this point, I feel they are undermining 343 studios and obviously want the fanbase to follow them to their new title...sounds fair but let it go already. Halo is moving on, so should you.

Bladesfist4674d ago

its their game... they spent a lot of their lives creating the series so I think they can say goodbye for as long as they want.

BeOneWithTheGun4674d ago

I agree. Halo was a game I thoroughly enjoyed playing. Great MP and Halo CE is one of my all time favorite 360 games. Bungie are up there with Naughty Dog and SuckerPunch in my book and any dev who puts that much care into their products deserve all the thanks we can give them.

Eiffel4674d ago

Bungie cares about their community, deal with it.

slampunk4674d ago

Patience dude, E3 2012 release is my tip for announcement....This year was too soon in the development cycle.......

ForROME4674d ago

Nice see ya Bungie! BRING ON HALO 4~!

Ninjamonkey824674d ago

Said it before gonna say it again, Without Bungie Halo just aint Halo. To Halo they are the Soul. I have every Halo game on the shelve next to me the only thing i don't have is the latest add on for reach becuase it was not made by Bungie when they where done i was also done.

But again thats a personal choice and im sure the rest of you will also have yor own. Maybe these new guys can bring something new to the table. But as far as i can tell Bungie did that everytime they dropped a new Halo game.

palaeomerus4674d ago

343 Industies is headed by Frank O' Conner and already has lots of ex-bungie employees in it.

Ninjamonkey824674d ago

"I'm content manager, which really means, spare monkey. That means I do everything from writing the manual, helping marketing with materials, running the website and going on trips to incredible places, to shoveling pimp turds out of Marty's recording booth. Seriously. Pimps are way worse than cart horses."

m234674d ago

I'm personally excited to see what 343 will do with Halo.

slate914674d ago

Actually Bungie has proven that a Halo with Bungie can still not be Halo.

Halo Reach anyone? That wasn't a Halo. Im hopeful for 343 to bring it back to its roots and what made it great.

Death4673d ago

Reach is a prequel to the Halo trilogy. It took place before the first game when the Spartans were still alive. Master Chief is the last of the Spartan II's which makes the game more unique. Reach made the game more personal by making the player an actual Spartan. At the same time it makes it less immersive since the character needs to be generic in order to fit all players. This of course changes in multiplayer since the story becomes less important.

Halo 4 starts a new trilogy with Master Chief and Cortana which will bring it back to it's roots so to say. If you like the story, read the books. They help flesh out the universe which really makes the games more enjoyable. The Gears books are also very good if read isn't a four letter word to you. ;)

Bungie Replaces Marathon Director Amid Leadership Shakeup, Fears of Layoffs

Amid ongoing anxiety within Bungie following layoffs last year, the studio is now preparing for another shakeup, this time on Marathon.

Kaii36d ago

Layoffs should be hitting the incompetent management at this point.

Profchaos36d ago

Talk about mismanaged Bungie is a studio of tremendous potential and have made some of the greatest shooters to date. Sony pushed them to just make another Destiny style game and consult on other studios live service games and are now getting thrown under a bus as the pivot away from predominantly gaas games is unfolding.

I'd love to see a world where Bungie can focus on telling great sci fi stories again away from a live service dungeon but we all know that's a pipe dream

Rynxie36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Are you serious? Do you just talk out of your arse naturally, or did it take years of being a POS?

Profchaos36d ago

You normally get so offended by internet comments or did it take years of being soft

purple10136d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Yes I see your point mate, someone clearly didn’t read the article.

Specifically the bit:

“Notably, multiple sources at the time and since have shared that Sony has largely left the studio to sort out its own troubles and was not responsible for the layoffs, with CEO Pete Parsons taking responsibility.“

He’s just spouting nonsense

Huey_My_D_Long36d ago

lol what so fucking hilarious is that you called him out so bad he projected him being offended onto you.

Its been well documented that Bungie's management has been more responsible for their shortfalls, even mentioned in said article that we are commenting on.

Its ok, just admit you didn't read the article.

MIDGETonSTILTS1736d ago

Arrowhead Studios will be Sony’s GaaS consult now.

Gameseeker_Frampt36d ago

I like how for some, it is never Bungie's fault. Microsoft, Activision, and now Sony - it is everyone else who is pushing Bungie to make all these bad decisions.

-Foxtrot36d ago

Thrown under the bus?

Are you joking? This is all Bungie, we all thought it was 100% Activision but it's clear the higher ups at Bungie don't have a clue how to run the studio and are more bothered about saving their own skin and the money that they rake in.

Sony gave them an extra $1.2 Billion to make sure that employees didn't leave and they didn't have to cut anyones jobs. Where did that money go because Bungie still cut peoples jobs and I bet you the higher management still kept a hold of their big fact paychecks and bonuses.

Sony invested poorly in this and the best thing they can do now is throw the old Bungie management out and take hold of the studio fully.

MIDGETonSTILTS1736d ago

Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Somebody at Bungie is the golden goose making great shooting mechanics, and the rest need to justify their paychecks.

This studio has had three owners and its never worked well with any of them....Management has issues

ChasterMies36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Worked very well for Microsoft. Microsoft’s mistake was letting Bungie go.

Fearmonkey35d ago

it worked so well with MS that they so wanted to be away from them they bought the company back. Only to do it again with activision-blizzard, and then sold to Sony...Sony shouldn't have bought them...Bungie hasnt been the same for a long time..
