I've never used the "true gamer" term before. I play videogames, therefore I'm a gamer. End of. If people state that being a "gamer" also makes you a "true gamer", then great -- I suppose that makes me a true gamer too.

No I think he means "microsoft exclusive" as in a game exclusive to microsoft 'owned' (I say 'owned' because they don't necessarily own the platform it's being played on if it's on PC) platforms. I.e when there's a game which isn't exclusive - like Gears, mass effect 2 etc. so instead they say "Microsoft exclusive"

A gamer is a person who enjoys to play games. A true gamer just sounds like a douchebag.

I hate it when you across people or even worse your friends who even though talks about games and plays then you get that impression like there just playing what ever other person is talking about, for example Halo, COD, GTA, Uncharted, Little Big planet, Fable...basicaly the big name games that come out and have loads of hype behind it but if you ask them if they have played on Portal, Singularity, Modnation racers, Bayonetta, games which are new franchises or games that havent had much hype they would etheir say "Pfft no I'm on Black ops/Reach" or no I've never heard of them in my life they sound crap" yet if a load of other people started talking about them they would buy them and pretend they've loved the game from the beginging........Yeah that's when I get the impression they arn't really games.....there just a lonely sheep who knows how to hold a controller.

LoL this is exactly what my room mate does. Follows the hype machine and considers themselves a hardcore pro gamer. It's these type of people that call you a noob when you leave a game of Call of Duty to play Super Meat Boy.

People tend to think of themselfs a " hardcore pro gamer" yet if you asked them about.....oh I don't know...for example who voices Nathan Drake in Uncharted, Who Peter Molyneux/Gabe Newell/Bobby Kotick are or even is the cake a lie they wouldn't be able to answer a single one of them questions and would just say "I don't care" and continue playing COD/Halo or any other game the rest of his friends are playing.

I mean if you said to a new Final Fantasy fan who has never played a FF game before except for the recent one 13, what is the best FF game....I know it's a matter of opinion but he would etheir say "OMG FF13 IS AMAZING", even though it's his first FF game or he dosen't play on games much to begin with or he would say "pfffft FF7 is the best" because thats what most people say....yeah it's good but most people who say it's good are just following what people say on these forums, same goes for the Nathan Fillion thing for the Uncharted film...yeah he would be a good choice because lets face it he DOES look like him but would people not rather waste their energy on getting the real Nathan Drake, Nolan North, on the big screen and give him his big break. It's basicaly just following the crowd

I play 4-8 hours everyday and still think I'm not playing enough. I have a gaming rig and an Xbox 360. I'm unemployed right now and when I get a job I'll be getting a PS3 for Uncharted and LBP2.

I'm a 100% true gamer. I only play cartridge based games cause they are pure. Disc based games are tainted and not hardcore.

you know, none of these ridiculous terms/phrases existed before this generation of console started.

last gen, and previous generations, you never heard people whining about "console exclusives," "AAA titles," "sales number jargon," "pixel counting," "true gamer," "casual gamer," etc.

as far as games go, this generation has been rather awesome, but when it comes to the actual gaming community, holy fuck does it suck ass. the gaming media, and many gamers themselves have their heads so far up their asses that it just isn't FUN to talk about video games anymore.

i remember when i was a boy, regardless of if you were a Nintendo or Sega fan, you and your friends/classmates would get together and just geek out over the latest Mario or Sonic, or Final Fantasy or Phantasy Star. the level of console loyalty and fanboyism was NOTHING like it is these days, and that's just terribly sad.

i remember what N4G was like back when i joined in 2007. if you were a fan of a particular console that cost US $599, you were in for a REALLY rough time. it wasn't just on N4G either, pretty much every major gaming community made being a PlayStation 3 fan a living hell, as if it was PlayStation fans fault that the console cost $600 and had a wonky first few months (the rest of the PS3's first year was really good, despite the media's efforts to convince people to the contrary).

now, not much has changed other than the hostilities are now geared towards the other two console camps (that being MS and Nintendo). it's really kind of annoying.

i really do miss just chatting it up with people about games. i remember going to Funcoland (for those that don't know, it was basically a precursor to EB games, Game Stop, etc. they sold/traded NES, SNES, and Genesis games), and didn't have the store clerk trying to push a console you weren't interested in, or some pre-order bullshit down your throat.

gaming, in the social aspect, was a LOT more fun back then. i pretty much only engage in serious gaming talk with my personal friends. on the net, i just kind of throw shit out there and ignore the trolls, sadly, of which there are MANY.

i really wish the internet gaming community/media, could remember what it was like to actually ENJOY talking about games, instead of all this rabble rousing, flamebaiting bs they are obsessed with.

unfortunately, due to the now lucrative nature of gaming websites and advertisements, we won't be getting much of that old school "pure" gaming journalism anytime soon.

I completely agree, by the time I was seriously getting into gaming, it seemed good for a bit, but was changing so quickly (heading towards the current state that it's in now). It was way more relaxed back then, now I'm just like you if I'm around I may throw something out there (sometimes just to be sarcastic, for those with a sense of humor), otherwise I try to just stay out of it. Besides, this all seems pretty one-sided (forums and what-have-you), not really that much interaction going on, and people tend to take things way to personal. Anyway, great comment (sure was a better time, well in terms of community).

It is a completely unnecessary article... People like different shit, people struggle to understand why people like different shit to them. People argue that the shit they are into is better than the shit other people are into due to fear of becoming left out or losing life status; some people more than others.

When peoples shit is threatened "maturity" gets left out. And that goes with anything.

You miss the point, theres instances where people will hate a game that they'd probably like were it on their favored system, just due to the fact that it's not on their favored system, the article basically states that a true gamer will like games for the games, not the systems they're released on, nothing more nothing less.
