Exclusivity: A Gamer's Worst Enemy

BMC: In less than a month it will be the year 2011. I know, it’s cuh-razy! The interwebs is buzzing with busy bees bringing not only the year, but the first decade of the 21st Century to a wrap. As desktop calendars in offices all over the world are dwindling down to nothing, the yearly trend of creating lists emerges like clockwork. That’s right, Santa’s not the only one making lists this time of year.

Exclusivity is only a problem if you only own one console i.e. the xbox. The article kinda sounds like pre-emptive damage control for that issue next year.

@sdtarm no need to wonder, you must have seen many people posting the massive PS3 exclusive lists all over. Looks like it's really starting to get to them.

so xbots went from "360 has more exclusives" to "Exclusives are gamers enemy"?

interesting... wonder why...

exclusivity = pushing industry forward
the title sounds like it's written by some PC fanatic :D

I only play older games on my 360. I`m playing GRAW2 right now on the 360 and Half Life: EP1. Since ME2 I haven`t played a NEW game on the 360 cause there really isn`t any that interest me. I`m gonna go buy Splinter Cell:Conviction and Alan Wake when they`re under $20. Unless Kinect is cheaper and really starts doing some AMAZING stuff I won`t buy it. So I really can`t see when I`ll be purchasing my next "day one" 360 game. Maybe, GeoW3 but only if it`s more like GeoW1 than GeoW2 and comes out at the right time. GeoW2 is one of the worst follow ups to a good first game ever. On the other hand I`ll be buying the upwards of 10-12 games this year that are only on the PS3. Exclusive matter alot to me personally. Sonys 1st party studios are some of my favorite out there from ND, GG, MM, SP, PD and TI.

Without exclusives, what's the point of owning one console over another? Exclusives define a console and what kind of gamer it wants to appeal to. For me, I'm primarily a PC gamer, but I also own a PS3 because I think it makes a great complement to my PC gaming. The reason I chose a PS3 is because it's exclusives appeal to me more than the other consoles. Most of the 360 exclusives are also on PC, so I already get those versions and the Wii never appealed to me because of the SD resolution and the family/kiddie orientation of most it's exclusives. For me, PC + PS3 = a great combo.

My issue lies with Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft taking the choice out of my hand while simultaneously giving me an ultimatum: “Buy our console, or don’t play that game.” Who the fuck do they think they are?

“Buy our console, or don’t play that game.” Who the fuck do they think they are?

I believe they are the creators of the system and as creators it's their opinion to decide what games they want on their systems. So until then quit your b**ching and if you don't like what they are doing just quit gaming.Cuz i doub't we will see anything soon where all games can be played on one system.Plus i like the idea of exclusives being in the video game industry it gives the system something to make it stand out from the competition.

Im fine with exclusives, it gives gamers a reason to buy one console over the other, which is a big point for all 3 companies.
Though it does suck when all the companies have exclusive games you really want, cause then you have to buy all the consoles to play them all.

Theres pros and cons with exclusives.

What are these people 10 years old?

mobijoker4877d ago

Agree with the article but you have to sell consoles.Nobody wants their games to go to limited crowds. But for selling consoles, you need exclusives to lure people in.TBH no exclusivity means death of consoles bcoz who will buy consoles when they can get'em all on pc.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
