Donkey Kong Country Returns to the Wii this Christmas - Hands-On Preview

Gaming Target writes:

"The Donkey Kong series is a favorite of mine, so I had to try it on the E3 show floor. As soon as I heard the soundtrack, a giant wave of nostalgia hit me. The 2D style was immediately familiar; I was Donkey Kong again and I was running, jumping, swinging, and bouncing off the heads of my enemies. I fired myself out of barrel cannons, pounded the ground to find extra bananas, and, of course, chucked a few barrels, it was like riding a bike."

I don't think this person has ever played donkey kong country for the snes. He talks about things that were in the first game like they're something new.

2 player co-op, it was on the snes
rescuing partner from a barrel, that too was on the snes.

Either way, the game looks awesome.

On a side note, i'd love to see nintendo task one of their teams with making a sequel to star fox adventures. That would be awesome. Sometimes I feel like i'm the only person who really enjoyed that game.

While there was 2-player co-op in DKC on the SNES, it was "tag team" style and only one person could play at a time. In DKCR, both players can play at the same time.

You could play at the same time in the snes version, there were two modes, "contest" & "team." Contest was tag team like you mentioned but team let both players play at the same time.

Donkey Kong Country Returns: A triumphant return indeed

As the first game to be released in the DKC series in 11 years, fans of Donkey Kong were eager to see how the iconic ape’s adventures continued. And when it was finally released, the game proved well worth the wait. With incredible level design, difficult yet fun platforming gameplay, vibrant presentation and an amazing soundtrack, “Donkey Kong Country Returns” is an amazing side-scrolling platformer and an incredible comeback for one of Nintendo’s oldest mascots.

Tropical Freeze is way better than Country Returns and Dixie's whatever it's called. It's easily in top 3 DK games.

CosmicTurtle1003d ago

It did not place them in order, despite the article being described as a top ten.

Donkey Kong (94) is my preferred game on that list. I think the Rare Country games are pretty rough.

My first reaction was... They made 10 Donkey Kong games?! Then I thought that must be every single one... then I checked the list and Donkey Kong 64 is not even on it. No wonder Nintendo won't make more 3D Donkey Kong. I really enjoyed tropical freeze but I am still waiting for the next 3D game. Its really the only thing I want from the series at this point. Also, I can't take Jungle beat seriously...

What Comes Next for Donkey Kong? Making the Ape a Priority!

KeenGamer: "What can Nintendo do to honor the anniversary of Donkey Kong Country Returns and what direction does the company go in with one of their oldest characters? Next month will mark a full decade since the iconic ape of the Big N's catalogue graced the Wii with brilliant side-scrolling and platforming action! A sequel followed in 2014, but the neglect for DK doesn’t sit well with many gamers in 2020."
