If Sega makes another console, which games will support it? Their current games arent big sellers so how can they support the system. They shoudl work first on improving their games and studios, if that goes well than they should try to bring in a new console. I just think its too early for them.

Agent Smith5061d ago

That's "if" they make another console. Since they've been denying about making another console, might as well cash in now.

crapgamer5061d ago

Sonic is still viable, they need to do something with motion controls and or go back to the Side scrolling device. A Sonic Adventure 1 type game or this new Sonic 4 sequel would do well.

Bayonetta is a solid franchise to build on, Virtua Fighter, Jet Set Radio, Panzer Dragoon, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Daytona USA, Ecco the Dolphin, Sea man, Space Channel, Choo Choo Rocket, Out trigger, Crazy Taxi. Their is a need for a new Dreamcast or Sega console. I would instantly support it.

This article is only about bringing Dreamcast games to PSN/XBL, not a new console. Good for us - I hope that the HD updates are more than jsut resolution changes and lead to better textures and the possibility of extra content and multiplayer. I'd still like to play F355 Challenge!

To think about the console rumor for a moment - firstly I think Sega are nowhere near strong enough at the moment to really push their way into the current market, particularly during a recession.

However, in terms of their publishable games, their big hitters are, on console, Yakuza right now and on PC, Total War and Football Manager.

Most of the other stuff they have isn't really shifting well but is clearly keeping them ticking over. If they were able to develop a console which could a) meaningfully run those big name games, b) revive some old names (Shenmue anyone?) with AAA status and c) produce something which can outsmart the 3 existing names, then maybe Sega could be successful.

I don't think they can achieve those things right now. Ironically, Sega might do best shooting for the handheld space (RIP GameGear). While DS vs PSP rumbles on, the PSP is relatively weak sales-wise and the DS is about to undergo a major transformation while the old DS hardware is well past it's best days. Sega were one of the pioneers of handheld gaming but the market and technology wasn't ready - the market is much bigger and well established now, and a fresh competitor might do well...

If Sega had something to beat the 3DS within the next year or two they might manage to oust the DS from its ubiquitous position.

"Well, SEGA may not be making the Dreamcast console anymore, but they certainly know the way to our hearts - with these awesome Dreamcast "Guess Who's Back?" t-shirts.

This awesome fashion/gaming statement is part of SEGA's E3 Dreamcast advertising, to help show off the upcoming (re)releases of Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi on Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network. The console may not be on store shelves anymore, but SEGA is bringing the Dreamcast back via the main download services"

pippoppow5061d ago

Sega coming out with a handheld may be more plausible and if successful maybe come out with a full fledged console later. Sega has a big enough catalog of IPs they can revive and they have made or published some really good games this gen.

I would love for Sega to make a new console. How great would it be for a revived Sega going at Sony like they did against Nintendo gens ago. Both going at each other exclusives for exclusives. They would have to pull an MS and release a year or more earlier than the competition with a $300-$400 price point with 1-2 highly wanted games. I would definitely support Sega if they do release a new console but only if they go all out.

Nathaniel_Drake5061d ago

Could this be the Dreamcast games coming onto the PSN and XBLA?

spunnups5061d ago

they are going to bomb. they are better off doing what they do best, make (lately) quality software. BUT, there software cannot carry their console by themselves.

sorry, but there front office is DUMB. fool yourself once, learn from it. fool yourself twice, you are an idiot.

yes i know that's not how it goes and i made it up, sue me

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

just_looken30d ago

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

gold_drake31d ago

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Jingsing30d ago

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol

SEGA’s Switch Predecessor: What Happened to the Nomad?

Sega had such a turbulent existence from the mid-90s to when they dropped out of console manufacturing entirely in 2001, it’s understandable if you’ve never heard of the Genesis Nomad.
