Peter Moore has resigned from Microsoft

Microsoft just confirmed the news that Peter Moore resigned from Microsoft.

Microsoft Corp. today announced that Don Mattrick, a former president at Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), will lead the Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB), which includes overseeing the Xbox and Games for Windows businesses. Peter Moore, who currently serves as corporate vice president of IEB, has decided to move his family back to the Bay Area for personal reasons and has secured another opportunity in the video games industry.

Mattrick will take over as the senior vice president of IEB at Microsoft, effective July 30. Mattrick was the founder of Distinctive Software Inc., which operated as a private company from 1982 until its merger with EA in 1991. Mattrick held various senior positions within EA, most recently as president of Worldwide Studios, until his resignation in February 2006. In February 2007, Mattrick began working with the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft as an external advisor.

News reporter: "Next in news, Ken Kutaragi, the father of the Playstation has now taken Peter Moore's place in Microsoft". That would give me a heart attack if that ever really happened...

edit: "...in other news, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of such popular games as the Mario and Zelda series has now left Nintendo and moved to Ubisoft."

MyNutsYourChin6140d ago

@ Lyberator: Indeed. This is quite the surprise.

@ Marceles: Superb reply. I'm still laughing. That would give many gamers a heart attack.

Firewire6140d ago

Yes the weasel is out. good job Peter u ruined another company!
ha ha!

this should be really interesting. Thursday MS has there stock holder meeting with quarterly report. it will be as confirmed devestating!
over 6.5 billion dollars in losses for the xbox & xbox360 combined!

if anyone remembers this was the type of situation, that led to the scrapping of the original xbox! Do you think the shareholders will give it another go? doubt full. This may very well be the last xboxs you xbots ever play! have fun!

marinelife96140d ago

I'm a PS3 owner but I defintely don't want the Microsoft to get out of the console race. I hope the shareholders understand how the business works. Competition is what keeps Sony, MS and Nintendo sharp.

deadpreacher6140d ago

@ Firewire
You guys never seem to amaze me. Just goes to show you should never under estamate the predictability of stupidity!

cuco336140d ago (Edited 6140d ago )

if u look at his history and not be blinded by your fanboyism, you'ld see he's ALWAYS been involved around sports aside from when he was at sega and ms. it's probably too stressful for him and he always seems to be a laid back kind of guy. sucks for ms to lose him but hey, at least he'll be heading ea sports and hopefully bring fifa series (and other ea sports titles) not suck so much versus the competition

he's back in sports and gaming, 2 things apparently he loves.

@ 1.3, firewire... homey... u having a sweet 16 anytime soon? i wouldn't bash the losses on ms's gaming side without looking at the losses on sony's gaming side.

well this is indeed "surprising" and actually a little sad cause i liked that guy but now PLEASE MS PLEASE DONT GET OUT OF THE CONSOLE BUSINESS, remember that the reason why you got into the console business in the first place was because the ps1 and ps2 were becoming a threat to your PC games (and not only games) dominance. Do whatever you have to do to dominate this generation even if you have to lower the price of the 360 by $150 or $200. You very well know that once you dominate the generation all those loses will be recouped.

Itachi6139d ago (Edited 6139d ago )

Microsoft never made a profit not a dime from the xbox division

The strategy he used with the xbox360 is exactly the same as Dreamcast

This is a good day for xbox fans maybe someone new and with fresh ideas can help the growth of the xbox division

Peter Moore failed with the dreamcast and xbox1 he left to avoid deja vu

this guy is a walking console killer

Omegasyde6139d ago

I do hope this isn't a sign of things to come for Microsoft.

Peter Moore was a great guy and had a great personality for the press.

I blame the Cheap chinese parts for Xbox360 problems and I hope Microsoft stays in the console race.

If the console war drops to 2 sides...bye bye creative games and hello cheap gimicy crap. I doubt MS will drop out, but perhaps the 360 is the last console for MS? I do wonder who would take that spot...
Toshiba? Phillips? Apple? EA? Texas Instruments? Blizzard? ..Nokia? ;)

clownfacemcgee6139d ago (Edited 6139d ago )

Lol, Apple. A $1000 condescending console. Apple is the last company I'd expect in the business.

Lol, the iConsole. With iGames. With the iConsole, you will not have iGames on a discs. Just like floppies, CD shaped disc, are last generation. To get iGames, you will have a chip inserted into your genitals, which you download games onto through iTunes. You then, use the "convenient" peripheral to attach to your genitalia to the iConsole. The iGames will include things like iShooter or iRacer. (seriously, what's up with all the iThings?) The network will be... iNternet! (what a surprise) And Steve Jobs will talk about it like it's the greatest innovation in the industry since sliced bread. (yes, sliced bread is actually an expensive console)

Blizzard should make a console. I'm a massive Blizzard fanboy. I would buy it even if it had no games (I mean literally NONE!) and I would enjoy it! I pray (and I'm an atheist) that Blizzard makes a console.

I'm completely shocked. Nothing else to say.

gta_cb6139d ago

i do agree, but there is something else to say, why has he done this? i know it says he has moved his family back blah blah blah, but there could be more to it

jromao6140d ago (Edited 6139d ago )

First was blah blah blah, all over about PS3 beeing a "crap", now if this news is true it's a proof of what is comming about 360.

And if he's going to work for EA, let's see what he say about the PS3 now on.

Lyberator6140d ago

Here comes all the sony fanboys. Lets see if one of them has something intelligent to say for once. Judging by the guy above me I would say no.

Syko6140d ago (Edited 6140d ago )

I thought Sunk was past tense, meaning it is already under water. So what the hell is sunking? Is it the act of sunk?

Just asking.

MyNutsYourChin6140d ago (Edited 6140d ago )

This thread has me laughing tears already. First it was Marceles reply to Lyberator and now reading your rhetorical and witty inquiry about "sunking", damn, I'm in stitches. This post is hilarious.

sloth4urluv6139d ago

So your saying when ken left the PS3 was doomed too? your an idiot.

I Miss When Games Came In Full Package Rather Than Broken Mess Filled With Microtransactions

The gaming industry has drifted away from offering full-fledged games to putting unfinished titles that are jam-packed with microtransactions on the market.

It's not the fault of the gaming industry. Gamers were told what was happening, were warned about where this would lead, did nothing, and now are acting like it's the fault of publishers that they kept buying these games and investing in MTX. If only those gamers at that time felt as strongly about these things as they do Helldivers 2.

Hugodastrevas2d ago

I don't think MTX target the common gamer but instead predate on the so called "whales". It's gambling pure and simple.

Christopher1d 23h ago

Oh, so it's okay to buy MTX-laden games as long as you don't spend money on MTX, which has led to even more MTX-laden games with even more predatory practices where content that used to be unlocked is now behind paywalls?

C'mon now people. You gave the corporations and inch, and they kept taking and taking. Community members told people that investing in these things alone would only lead to more and more MTX and putting more and more behind paywalls. But it's only the fault of the corporations, not the people who kept supporting it with purchases as more and more was taken away?

Hugodastrevas1d 23h ago

@Christopher that's a straw man, I didn't say any of that I just added context.

-Foxtrot1d 20h ago

Well exactly

People stand up for something which seems small to them and they get called whiners or negative. Then years later the shit hits the fan and they all go “why is this happening?” Like they are innocent.

The issue aswell is younger gamers who grew up with all this thinking it’s normal and we all just look like old farts yelling at clouds when we’re trying to help us all, even them.

Crows901d 2h ago

Who woulda thought that listening to your elders could be a good idea...too late now

Hofstaderman1d 1h ago

It all started with that damn horse armour. Back then I thought nobody was stupid to buy into that crap. How wrong I was....

CrimsonWing691d ago (Edited 1d ago )

I like how people move the goal-post. First it’s, f*ck any game with MTX’s, f*ck GaaS games, f*ck this game with “optional” MTX’s (Dragon’s Dogma 2), Helldivers 2 is ok because it’s fun and even though it has Battle Passes or Season Passes and MTX’s it’s ok because… you don’t need to buy them? 🤷‍♂️

HellDivers 2 is the best selling game this year. Just think about that, games like FF7 Rebirth sold poorly, but a continuous game that lives off recurring revenue sells extraordinarily well. Then we’ll hear everyone b*tch about a GaaS future.

I really wonder what this industry would’ve been like if we never gave into this crap, and yes I’m saying “WE” since I’m guilty of it, but man it’s literally no closing the door once it’s been opened.

This is what amazed me the most when playing hours upon hours of stellar Blade version 1.00.00 no bugs, no crashes, no sudden drops in frames, no screen tear, no falling from the world, just a complete package on a game under 50GB.
I think Korea will play a major role in gaming in the long run , because they're releasing banger after banger.

isarai2d ago

Still pretty common to find if you stay away from the AAA publishers, in the last 10yrs ive probably only bought like 3 games combined from EA/ACTIVISION/UBISOFT. Even now i still buy games that work right out the box perfectly fine. Just recently got like 6hrs into Alone in the Dark, and not a single sign of any of that bs, really enjoying my time with it.

shinoff21831d 17h ago

There's such a misconception about every game needing a patch, this and that when in reality it's not even close. You nailed it isarai

Crows901d 2h ago

It's really only AAA devs and publishers that seem to have these constant problems

z2g1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

And we as gamers have to accept our role in that. Constantly never being satisfied. Constantly demanding more while paying less. Constantly demanding better frame rates, better graphics, more modes and faster faster faster…. Then review bombing the product when a demand isn’t met. Meanwhile those same demands are making games more difficult, complex and more expensive to create than ever before, on shrinking timelines that burn out employees and make their lives miserable.

You wanna know why so many games get delayed? Cuz the original release dates weren’t realistic to begin with, but you can’t tell a gamer their game is further away than they want to hear. Some dev or game designer will be threatened physically. That builds even more pressure and rushing. We are officially squeezing water out of rocks and still complaining about that how hard you have to squeeze the rock be just waiting for rain. Most of the time we take it out on the developing studio, when it’s the publisher making the calls.

All you need to do is read the comments on most websites and social media to see how toxic, entitled and petty the gaming community at large is, and realize how that transforms into impossible expectations on the parts of game makers.

Crows901d 2h ago

Nope. Some gamers are to blame. Never demanded anything you mentioned.

A fully finished and functioning product is a standard. It's not demanded. If someone sells you a tv that only works 60% of the time are you going to recommend it OR write a review calling out the obvious problem...it's not a demand...it's a standard.

A standard triple A publishers can't seem to hit consistently.

thorstein1d ago

You've never heard of planned obsolescence.

HankHill21h ago

I take it you like microtransactions? 🤣

Kinza550121d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

This is one battle that gamers have never won, hahaha. They were parading recently for their "win" against Sony. Where's the energy for this one, guys? LMAO!
