Gran Turismo 5 '90% done' - Yamauchi

Nearly five years ago, Gran Turismo 5 was teased as part of the the PlayStation 3 unveiling at Sony's 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo press briefing. Two years ago, the public got its first taste of Polyphony Digital's $60 million game in the form of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Then, three and a half months ago, the racing game's planned March launch in Japan was scrapped, pushing back its US and EU launch indefinitely.

Last week, Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi offered some public reassurance that the game is on track. "Gran Turismo 5 is about 90 percent finished," he told the UK racing magazine Inside Line. "There are currently around 140 people working on the project." To date, the Gran Turismo series has sold over 55 million copies

90%...95%...people keep asking so he keeps making up numbers. ;) I can cope with the delay, less fond of the possibility that part of the current delay is due to 3D.

mookins2872d ago

I got too excited for my own good when he said that. I can wait too though. :D

hay2872d ago

That'd be probably around 4 months of development more. Q4 2010.

InfectedDK2872d ago

I agree.. It will relase between 01-09-10 - 24-12-10
And then I will play PS3 like never before.

Looks like we will be getting this in October : v )

yeah, if this is just for 3D it would suck, but I am optimistic is truly the perfectionist in Yamauchi that is causing this craziness, and I think they want to make this game as good as possible because I feel like we wont see GT6 till 2020.

2020, the future! I can't wait for the super awesome baseball leagues we will have in the future.

StanLee2871d ago

Yeah, this game isn't coming out this year. I've already resigned myself to this.

rockleex2871d ago

Its also for:

Super GT

Making them all as perfect and as an integral part of GT5 as possible.

Yamauchi also said that NASCAR cars can crumble to pieces... down to the very bolts!

FACTUAL evidence2871d ago

90% done!? I remember Yamauchi saying that he could release GT5 anytime....He said that LAST year...W/E

rockleex2869d ago

That was before he decided to add more features.

I have a strong feeling the delay is to implement 3D. As much as I like the look of Motorstorm in 3D, I can't afford a new 3dHDTV anytime soon. :(

TheHardware2872d ago

I'm all for making this game as goood as possible, but this wait is almost unbearable..../sigh...I guess it will be all worth it in the end.

Colonel-Killzone2871d ago

First day buy for me. They never failed me yet and i doubt they will start now. As the saying goes "good things come to those who wait".

PirateThom2871d ago

Well, considering they scrapped and entire engine and started fresh, I think they're making good headway... still want the game though.

E3 2005 was Vision Gran Turismo, it ran on a modified version of the GT4 engine. Gran Turismo HD Concept was the result after they scrapped it and moved to the new engine.... considering the work they've put in, it hasn't been THAT long a wait, not really.

BannedForNineYears2871d ago

They just really, really want to get it right.
That's a good thing though. xD
