Splinter Cell: Conviction Single-Player Is 7-8 Hours Long

If this is true then I will pass. I refuse to pay for xbox live (my own reasons) so all this other coop and mp stuff is wasted for me. I would rather take a long, absolutely amazing single player over coop and mp any day. ie Uncharted 2, but UC2 has both.

Well, to put that in context, UC2 playtime was 15 hours on single-player (because I suck at games, not becuase its that long) and maybe 50-60hrs on multiplayer
Which is why I think we should NOT talk about length in hours, because it inherently forces developers to emphasise multi over single player (the CoD syndrome) - and most gamers would hate to see that, I am sure many of us enjoy a well developed single player, and how many multiplayer games do you need anyway?

@nycredude - You say you prefer UC2 which has an amazing SP experience which I agree on but that can be finished in 5-6 hours, I finished it in 6 and a half on my first run through and it has a co-op mode which is VERY short, if I remember correctly it has 2 or 3 levels?

So I don't know why you're complaining, for all you know SCC has an amazing SP experience just like U2, especially if you're a SC fan, not to mention U2 does have co-op but it can only be played online, not sure about system link but with SC you can play all 2 player modes in split screen, online and system link, so the longevity of SCC is MUCH higher than U2, all that aside, U2 is a brilliant game and my GOTY 2009 and I'm a SC fan so I am anticipating SCC a hell of a lot and I don't think it will disappoint me one bit but that's just my opinion.

Also consider the fact that fans of this genre will run through a normal difficulty setting like a flamethrower through a stick of room temperature butter. So it's kind of un-fair in a way when someone asks developers the length of time to complete their games.

I think a better choice of words for them would have been to say "The games length will vary based on players experience and interest in the series. Ultimately we're looking at around a dozen hours or playtime for the average player."

It usually takes me longer than the average to play most games because I always start on the hardest difficulty available at the start of the game.

It's hard to say with conflicting stores. Even if the main campaign is only 7 to 8 hours there will be plenty of co-op and multiplayer. Also don't forget about the beta for GRAW in the summer.

Not to bash on MGS4, I love the game to death. But take MGS4 for example it tool me 25 hours to finish it on the first run but you can speed run it in under 5 hours, if you are a gaming god of course. Imagine if you speed run this? 2 hours max!

I am kind of disappointed as I don't game on the 360 online cause I refuse to pay for live. I might have to pass on this, at least until the price drops.

Most ganmes this generation are 8-10 hours long. They are saying SC is 7-8 hours on noram difficulty. Putting the game on harder lengthens it by a few hours more...Then including Multii-play and coop...it adds more.
And people still complain? That translate to more then 10 hours. On hard alone it wil be 10+ hours. I assume thats not enough for some as its on the PC and Xbox360....If this were on the PS3 I assume, then the length would be fine.
This reminds me of Heavenly Sword which was short and MS fanboys bashed it to hell...Then Halo 3 came out and Gears and those games were almost as short. Xbox360 fanboys said squat then.

8hrs on normal difficulty so if you ramp it up, it's probably around 12-15hrs. Plus you still have the co-op campaign which is different from the single player story, plus special ops. When a developer says a game is 10 hours, most gamers who come to this site will finish it in 7-9 hours. Developers always add a little more time. They always add getting all the items and doing all the extra's to the game time.

This game has a short single player but they designed the multiplayer to offset the difference.

Fallout 3 was 100+ Hours. I beat it on hard with nearly everything collected, and my guy maxed out. Gamesave: 200+ Hours.

actually if you put the game on harder difficulty to lengthen it then that same can be said for GOW3. So instead of 10-15 hrs you get 15-20 hrs which still be longer as well as not taking into effect the quality of the games and the fact that they are completely different genres(really hope SC is good btw).

The point is that they probably sacrificed SP length for MP and graphics because there are limitations to the DVD format that the X360 runs no matter how much some people wish it wasn't.

Wonder what the comparisons to MGS4 will be like(and there will be comparisons)

Heavy Rain (Yes, it is short. Beat it in one sitting on experienced) - 4-6 hours
Killzone 2 - 5-6 hours

and yet somehow, a 7-8 hour single player campaign mixed with another 22 hours of other modes including Co-op, Deniable ops and multiplayer is somehow not good enough and will result in everyone renting the game? Speed runs? How are these speed runs? If these are speed runs, are you telling me Uncharted 2 has a 20 hour story? Sorry, but God of War 3 is a 9-10 hour campaign. Every single PS3 game that I have purchased as been grossly overestimated. These are the times I BEAT these games on on the hardest difficulty settings.

I honestly cant believe someone would have the audacity to say that these are speed runs. Either you suck at the games listed, or you're lying out of your ass. I'm helping you out here. I didn't even mention the replay value of these games, which is close to 0 aside from the two that have a multiplayer consisting of about 8 maps and 5 game modes, which should probably not even be factored in considering how dismal that is.

You're talking about speed runs, they aren't. SC will be 4 hours-ish for a speed run. And HR isn't 4-6 hours, it changes depending on if you let anyone die. So it's hard to put a time frame on it.

Uncharted 1 was on the short end about 8 hours on easy setting but significantly more on harder difficulties (damn crushing)

Uncharted 2 definitely was longer than 1. I took 12-15 hours first run through without a rush and wasn't treasure hunting.

GOW1 on easy gives a challenge to rush through to under 5 hours so its no where in the 3 hour range(there's a gold trophy for that)

GOW2 certainly was not 6 hours long more like 10 hours and both this and GOW1 were ps2 games remember.

Heavy Rain run through in 4-6 hours (ha) the only way to do that was to ****small Spoiler****

kill all the characters as soon as possible and skip all their future chapters and that took me 6 hours not 4(you cannot cut movie scenes as the game is a movie)

Replay value is not limited to MP as many gamers do not play a game online GOW1&2 both have challenge modes and difficulty levels. Heavy rain has 22 endings. Uncharted 1 has treasures and crazy amount of unlockables. Same with Uncharted 2 and again haven't played KZ2.

To me Splinter Cell has been more of a single player game than multi player. IMO they should have made the single player longer. I have played all the other splinter cell games on single player but never played them multi player.
This game doesn't seem to be as stealthy a game as the older ones to me, it looks more action.
With not been into co-op/ multi player I will probably get this for PC (haven't got 360) when price falls at a later date.

to tell how long any game truly is! for one player skill can be a factor. how verse said player knows what to expect from any given level. Most important to these arguments is did they add respawns into the count. i beat odst in like 7 hours but it took over 10 due to deaths. same with virtually any game with save points. you dying doesn't add to the time.

So when you complete the game it could say 7-8 hours but mostly took 10-12
