Calls For Sony To Be Sued After PS3 Crash

Sky News writes: In a statement, the games manufacturer admitted the fault had been caused by "a bug in the clock functionality".

The internal clock on the console was programmed to recognise 2010 as a leap year, when it's not.

Gamers who booted-up their consoles on March 1, 2010, recieved the following message: "An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)" - or the date of their PS3 systems were re-set to January 1, 2000.

For God's sake, it's a free service! Deal with it!

gaffyh5187d ago

How can you sue someone for loss of virtual trophies that cost nothing? No doubt this "suit" will be headed up by Bungie, N4PS3G, Eignub, Cold 2000...so that's one person, who else?

:D

BeaArthur5187d ago

Make it unanimous. It was down for a freaking day. I would love to meet one of the people that plans to sue, just to see what they are like and to see if they wear a helmet at all times.

Genesis55187d ago

Sue because you couldn't play a game for less than a day. What a bunch of morons.

Christopher5187d ago

Impossible. Read the ToS/EULA when you sign up for PSN.

Mr_Bun5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

There is literally ONE comment that calls for Sony to be sued over this and leave it to the N4G faithfuls to approve this.

Edit: @gaffyh
What are you doing?...I know EXACTLY why Crab approved this, but I can only assume you did for a chuckle

Noctis Aftermath5187d ago

@Gaffyh: That's comment of the month! hilarious.

+1 bubs
+1 respect
+10 humour

morganfell5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

Do you really want to know why he approved it? Consider a moment with whom it is you are dealing.

http://www.n4g.com/up/29057...

EDIT: @Mr.Bun, I reread your comments and see your intent.

NexGen5187d ago

1/30th of their monthly subscription fee to PSN. Total value: $0.00

1/365th value of the system (1 year warranty, I think). Total value: $0.82

Cost to file the lawsuit: $50 and up depending on county/state

Net profit for those filing a lawsuit: at minimum -$49.18

Yes, I suggest you all sue immediately and throw away your money.

Mr_Bun5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

We all know why crab approved this, it's gaffyh that I'm wondering about.

Edit: gaffyh
It is pretty funny that one tweet was enough for some "journalist" to post an article regarding Sony being sued....and for something so irrational

silvacrest5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

i knew crab flip flopped but DAMN...., i never bothered to read his previous comments to see the true extent, looks like we got another bungie or vice versa lol

@ MR bun. im guessing for the LULZ factor, this whole situation is ridiculous

gaffyh5187d ago

I approved it because I found it funny Bun, yes.

Pennywise5187d ago

Crabby has internal struggles he is dealing with. He now realizes PS3 is superior and the years of antagonizing PS3 owners makes for a hard habit to break. Cut him some slack, being one of the biggest hypocrites on this site is not easy.

radphil5187d ago

You have perfectly explained how I feel on the situation.

Yes it was a hardware bug, but it was a small hiccup. If this was something that knocked it out for days I can kinda understand.

SupaPlaya5187d ago

going overboard. Free PSN/HOME down-loadable items would be cool for those affected though.

Or give early access to Uncharted 3 Demo :D

Ju5187d ago

Well, if they win, they'll get a percentage of the damage that left. Like 15% of, say, nothing (nada, nilch, null). Because they didn't really spend money on the downtime, did they (or did anybody for that matter ?). So who cares.

sikbeta5187d ago

1 bug that was causing problem for [24hs], the PS3 themselves "FIXED" the Problem and everything is Running SMOOTH as Always, You Got To Be FVCKING Kidding Me...

I can't believe this S#!T...

TheGamer5187d ago

Funniest thing I read today.

himdeel5187d ago

...were upset because they had to come out of the basement and baby sit their mothers cats all day. The sun probably touched their skin and burned some of the flesh from their half rotten un-bathed corpses.

Ridiculous that people can be upset about not having access to a free service. This is why I have no faith in civilized humanity :( and know common sense REALLY isn't common.

/sigh

Darkstorn5187d ago

This is not a conspiracy, guys. Only PS3 owners would sue Sony anyway, as they are the only ones who could have possibly lost data. Then again, if M$ is able to get away with the RROD time and time again, then this is small change in comparison.

Anon19745187d ago

If it hadn't been for these sites acting like it was the end of the world I would have just figured it was maintenance.

I can't believe what a big deal some people want us to think this is.

Man In Black5187d ago

for contaminating the gene pool.

GiantEnemyCrab5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

I posted a message why I approved it Morganfell. You are one of the biggest Sony deep throats on this site man and you are calling me out? That is rich coming from you loser.

http://www.n4g.com/up/37883...

Careful gaffyh looks like your Sony manhood is being challenged. You aren't completely swallowing it all so Morgan and Bun are going to question your loyalty. Not a very good Sony soldier you are!

Ravage275187d ago

woah dude what happened to your bubbles??

morganfell5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

This entire call for Sony to be sued was doubtless started by opposition that are getting desperate as the capability gap between the PS3 and 360 begins to widen like a chasm. Now that it has been revealed that Natal is little more than casual Wii fair with additional lag, it is patently obvious PS3 detractors will seize upon any small blade of grass to prevent their inevitable and destined trip over the ledge.

Yes Crab did send me a PM. It was a vile cursing little message calling me a crybaby and all I did was link to things he has said on this forum publicly. Apparently someone would rather we not see their true nature.

Unlike him I don't have an issue with my past posts nor do I pretend to be anything other than a Sony supporter that once in a great while likes one or two games on a different, less capable platform.

And at least I didn't choose my username and build my entire account around attacking another console. Nor do I send PMs to other users attacking them unless it is a response to their own nasty PM. Calling people words like crybaby (when it's obvious who is having a sniffle fest) is laughable at best.

As regards gaffyh, I never questioned his comments but instead pointed out Crab's motivations that are quite transparent.

cmrbe5187d ago

Goes to show that the PS crowd are very unforgiving and expect much much more from Sony. Can't say the same about the x360 crowd. A whole week without live and 4 years of HW failures and they still are ok with it.

I doubt x360 fans are doing this. I have been on the PS blog and you guys should see what those PS fans were saying.

This whole situation has been blown out of porportion but i always want PS fans to keep their high standards and take Sony to task if they make a mistake. In the end, as PS fans we should never expect less.

DaTruth5186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

Guys, Eignub is the anti-Bungie. He is making fun of Bungie/eignuB. He is also making fun of 360 fanboys by saying stupid things they would say, but just more stupid. "DVD is bigger than Bluray, just some fanboys are blind and can't see it."

It says calls for Sony to be sued. There is only one call, thus the title is incorrect.

Consoldtobots5186d ago

what a buncha maroons...lol

actually there IS something they could be sued for but I sure as hell aint flappin my gums. Knowing these idiots they would take it and run with it.

RememberThe3575186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

Come on man, your better then that... You made to stupid ass comments back in the day, just take it. We all do it, this is a comments section.

I would have approved this story as well. This is News and it's a legitimate submission. If you don't like it that is was the comment section and the "lame" report are for.

Plus, no one is being sued (yet). As stated in the article: "Other gamers called for Sony to be sued after they lost years of precious 'trophies' and saved games overnight: 'Everything is lost!!!! THANKS ALOT!!!!!! I hope sony get sued and have to pay millions!!!!!!!!'"

zane_78495186d ago

I'm going to sue the people calling for the suit against Sony for the lost in humanity I've suffered due to their dumb greed.

fatstarr5186d ago

i think I'm going to sue Google for not giving me the information i asked for when i clicked the search button.

maybe if it was Microsoft they could get away with it.

and ffs its a programmers error, at least it was your ps3 and not your car. God help us if it had been that instead. you think this made the news ... i could see it now.

pixelsword5186d ago

you didn't lose anything because you didn't pay for anything.

OGharryjoysticks5187d ago

Let's hope these people never buy an XBOX, because instead of being without online for 15-20 hours, they will really have to wait for a fix when something bad actually happens.

Das_Bastardion5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

I think THERE ARE several people that actually sued MS for his faulty hardware, but law can bend to the highest bidder sometimes.

If MS can trow millions away for timed exclusivity, sure they can spare a few thousands to keep the people quiet

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow5d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo1824d ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie4d ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

Lying to yourself is unbecoming.

Article link tells you all you need to know in Sarah Bond's own words.

Hereandthere3d ago

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

ApocalypseShadow3d ago

At least you and others get it. Note drank the Kool aid and asked for seconds thinking it was refreshing.

Most don't even know how it all played out but it's there in black and white for all to see. Microsoft brought it up for years until the MLB forced Sony's hand. It was a win win for Microsoft. Kill one reason to buy a PlayStation or kill the game by dropping it in a cheap service to kill Sony's sales numbers on PlayStation.

OtterX4d ago

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

Cockney3d ago

They chose well, Sony gave them the backing to pursue their dreams with no restrictions even tho their games especially dreams have very niche appeal. Media molecule and Sony deserve respect for this in an age of risk averse publishing.

RNTody4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno4d ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Inverno4d ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

4d ago
fsfsxii4d ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno4d ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?
