Nintendojo: The Secret Saturdays: Beasts of the 5th Sun DS Review

Nintendojo writes: "In the world of The Secret Saturdays, a relatively new Cartoon Network series (it launched October 2008), a hip, heroic family of cryptozoologists tours the world to discover supernatural and fantastical creatures, referred to in the show as "Cryptids." Yet instead of proving these mythological beasts exist in our world, the Saturday family aims merely to document their presence while keeping them secret from humanity, both for mankind's and the creatures' protection. With a spy thriller-flavored soundtrack, cheesy super villains, monsters of every shape and form, and a visual style that hearkens back to classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons of the '60s, the series makes perfect material for a video game adaptation. The Secret Saturdays: Beasts of the 5th Sun, D3Publisher's and 1st Playable Productions' attempt at a DS adaptation, is a bit hit-and-miss, however."

Beast of the 5th Sun is unfortunately yet another mediocre licensed game. It has some good ideas and tries valiantly to present the cartoon universe in video gameform, but only fans of the series will be able to fully enjoy this title.

Level7 Review: The Secret Saturdays: Beasts Of The 5th Sun

Level7: First of all, I'll admit that I have not heard of the Secret Saturdays, but it went pretty quickly dawned on me that this game must be linked to one license. Indeed, it is based on a TV series of the same name directed against the young. To the DS, this is, however, on a platform which, even without the warning in mind that there is a licensed game, deserves some criticism.
