Ubisoft has today announced its development of The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom. The game is set to release in the Spring of 2010.
"The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom brings The Settlers franchise to a new level in the strategy-game genre," said Ubisoft marketing head-honcho John Parkes. According to him, Paths to a Kingdom will "rely… on the key mechanisms that made the series a success while innovating and giving the gamers the opportunity to build their own thrilling experience."
The Settlers franchise, known for its slow, strategic gameplay, first launched in 1993 for the PC and Amiga platforms. Since then, it has gained an impressive following, selling many millions of units worldwide.
According to Ubisoft, The Settlers 7 will feature rich and varied gameplay mechanics, allowing players to "expand their kingdom village by village, sector by sector, optimising their creation by fine-tuning production chains and transport systems." The game will be built in a brand-new engine, with more advanced AI than in the series' previous iterations.
