I'll tell you this, any 360 guy that buys this game, will play the sp and release that it's only 4-5 hours, play some MP and remember it's the same as halo3.

GameCentral are paid journalists with well in excess of a million readers, notorious for being independent, unbiased, and unswayed by hype when it comes to games for ALL formats.

You on the other hand, are clearly one lonely Xbox 360 fanboy, who would rather cut off your own genitals than hold a PS3 joypad.

Whose opinion should I trust regarding an Xbox 360 exclusive game? Oooh, I just can't decide. Somebody help me please...

They might have a fairly decent readership, but I have honestly never heard of them, so to me they are small time....certainly nobody can argue that they are on the same level as IGN, GameInformer, etc.

The simple fact is...I am familiar with certain sites and I feel I can trust their reviews because they have never led me astray in the past. When you have a history of reading certain sites and seeing their reviews match your personal taste in games then of course you are going to put more stock into what they say than some site you have never heard of. However, the bigger point was...I have the game now and can play it for myself so I really don't care too much about ANY review at this point.

BTW..you assume too much...I own a 360 and a PS3 and enjoy playing games on both consoles.

that bungie releases a standalone version with just the campaign and firefight modes for half price. Because I already bought the Halo 3 Heroic edition on launch day, and have purchased all the current MP map packs.

yep my biggest gripe with the game is that they have done absolutely nothing for the mp (apart from adding 3 new maps).

the only new development has been on the campaign and firefight mode.

i've just got my copy though and i was lucky enough not to have purchased the halo 3 maps so gonna get stuck in now. maybe they could have released 2 versions though when you consider the games probably more aimed towards the 'hardcore' halo player who prob own all the maps from halo 3 anyway lol

I do wish people would stop writing off any reviewer/web site who gives ODST less than 9/10 as "small-time" - it's petty. Gamecentral have been going for years, and I trust them a lot more than those so-called "big" websites such as Gamespot, IGN, et al., whose motivations are occasionally suspect. This coming from an XBox360 owner but who is a lover of ALL games.

Why are their motivations suspect?....Why should I trust these smaller sites any more? They might not be as swayed by advertising dollars, but on the other hand they often seem to be home to more fan-boyish reviewers as well. They don't seem to have the same level of stringent standards that some of the bigger sites and magazines do.

But all of that misses the point. The reality is...all reviews are opinions formed by individuals who each have their own personal tastes and biases. I care more about finding review sources that seem to share similar tastes as mine than finding some site that is just hard on games across the board as a general policy.

You make a number of extremely valid points, but I also said "occasionally" suspect - not the sweeping statement you attributed to me. In regards to GameCentral I'm not defending them because they're "hard-asses" when it comes to reviews, I just find they're are one of the most open and honest resources when it comes to informing the consumer of where their hard-earned money should be directed.

Do I agree with them ALL the time? Of course not, because as you said, I have my own personal tastes and opinions, and occasionally I DO disagree with them. I guess the underlying point of my original post which I failed to get across was the concern that just because someone hasn't got a massive website in the reviewing industry, that doesn't make their opinion any less valid.

Some would say even the "bigger sites and magazines" (Eurogamer and Edge come to mind) aren't exactly harbingers of fairness and transparency in regards to the "stringent standards" you mention.

TeleText GameCentral is a joke! I wish they'd just stop making reviews all-together. I can't think of one single review that they've ever done that I agreed with. And their reviews are always, always, always loaded with factual errors. God I remember their Killzone 2 and inFamous reviews, they were muddled with errors and untrue statements and misconceptions, and a lot of times it was those fallacies and falsehoods that he used to justify giving the games arbitrarily low scores. And they also hated Guitar Hero Metallica, which is criminal.
