Windows 7 testers to get a free copy on August 6

In a surprising turn of events, Microsoft has changed its mind and decided to give participants of the "Windows 7 Beta Program" a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate after all, according to the Windows 7 Team Blog: "To show our appreciation, members of the invitation-only Windows 7 Technical Beta Program will be eligible for a free, final copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. For more information on how to take advantage of this, refer to Paul's post in the .Beta_Program newsgroup for details." The date in question is August 6, the same day MSDN and TechNet subscribers get the RTM build.

It should be emphasized that this offer isn't available to those who tested the beta and RC build when they were released to the public. This offer is only for testers that were invited into the beta program.

You could get a free virus from Microsoft.... thats how they used too do with they're royal fans!!!

mrv3215383d ago

You don't even have to be in the beta... just a internet connection and some other stuff will do. :P

joydestroy5382d ago

yup. i got my free copy :D lol

ZombieNinjaPanda5382d ago

I wish I beta tested, I would take anything over my Vista right now. I can't take the slowness and the constant "BLah blah is requesting permission to work allow?"

It even asks that for Disk Defragmenter. That is very annoying.

You can always get windows for free online. If you want a legit copy, pc world are offering 50% off. I also saw a free upgrade when you buy vista in pc world.

Microsoft isn't giving away a free copy to all beta testers. The only people that receive a free copy are those that were invited to the Windows 7 Technical Beta Program. While this news is somewhat disappointing to me, it makes little sense to give every beta tester a free copy.

Windows 7 for free!?

Where's the catch?

power0919995383d ago

The catch is you needed to be a "selected" beta tester.

I gotta say, Windows 7 is a beautiful-looking operating system, but it takes some getting used to. The interface and structure is way different than XP, and is very confusing at first.

Vista is a huge step up from XP in terms of user friendliness, but I did find the initial change over a little rough. Primarily because XP (and it's predecessors) had me trained into cumbersome UI.

Vista (and Windows 7) is such a step up in UI. I will never go back!
