Resident Evil 5 demo live on PSN today

Playstation Blog writes:
Hey everyone, I'm Shawn Baxter (Snow) from Capcom-Unity. Our amazing Resident Evil 5 Demo goes live today on PSN, so I thought I'd tease you a bit with some of the cool things to expect, whether you're an old fan or new to the series. One of the first things I noticed is how good the game looks. It's hard to get by the beauty RE5 has to offer. Better still, you get to play through two beautiful stages in the demo. Aside from the sweet graphics, there's plenty more that the demo has to offer.

got it off JPN PS Store last night

Cerberus21255562d ago

I got it from Japan psn yesterday, but it is in the US psn already

Doppy5562d ago

I loved it. I wish they modernized it more in gameplay (moving and shooting the major flaw), but it's a great game with great graphics, and hopefully a great story to go along with it.

Lifendz5561d ago

I played Deadspace a few weeks back and absolutely loved it. It did everything right in terms of gameplay. I was an engineer that was fighting for my life without any real weapons. And it worked. I never experienced such suspense....well...not since Silent Hill 2 at least.

Now comes RE5. I played it and have no desire to buy it. The controls were cumbersome. The aiming is slow. The knife is virtually useless. That last one really sucks because ammo is so bleeping limited that it'd be nice if I could use the knife effecitvely. Especially since I'm a bad ass character and not an everyman like Issac in Deadspace.

Speaking of which, not being to move and shoot just took me out of it. It was no longer immersive. It was just cumbersome and awkward and people tolerate it because "it's Resident Evil and its always been like this."

Thanks but no thanks. I'll gamefly it but I definitely won't be buying it.

ThanatosDMC5561d ago

Yeah, i hope they fix the aiming. It's way too slow. They expect you to take your time to fine aim your shot at an incoming chainsaw guy... seriously...

ThanatosDMC5561d ago

Nvm about my above post. If you go to Option, there's a way to change the Aim Speed to fastest. It helps.

Jok3r5562d ago

Too bad that the framerate was noticeable worse on the PS3-demo compared to the 360-demo (note, DEMO! It can hopefully be fixed til retail)

MegaMohsi5562d ago

say's who? I saw the comparison done on GT and everything was exactly the same

Jok3r5562d ago

I say, because I have both the 360-demo and the PS3-demo...It´a little choppier framerate on PS3 sometimes when you turn the camera around...Strange ..

Bazookajoe_835562d ago

I have my ps3 on repairs so i have only played the xbox version, but there´s alot of screentearing during the video sequence...

MegaMohsi5562d ago

oh ok, I thought you had just watched some low resolution videos to assume that. Maybe it's just a demo glitch or something, I have a strong feeling that both versions will be identical considering they used the same engine for DMC4 and both games were identical

Jok3r5562d ago

No, no tearing whatsoever =)
I played both the 360-demo and the PS3-demo at 720p and NO tearing!
But I heard that the 360-demo suffer screentearing when played at 1080p!

To the disagrees...Play both the 360-demo and PS3-demo and come back then! You will see for yourself!

Jok3r5562d ago

Yeah, it is said that the PS3-demo is an older build than the 360-demo, but I don´t know myself =)

Yeah just like Devil may Cry 4 it should be almost no difference at all in the end =)

Drealmcc0y5562d ago

Jok3r: You're totally right, when i threw a grenade in the first hut with loads of enemies flying everywhere, it slowed right down 4 a few secs. I completed the 360 version like 50 times, n it didnt slow down once, apart from tht there exactly the same

bassturd5562d ago

got a couple slowdowns as well. Not from grenades but on the first level when the zombies start breaking thru windows to get in the house. Slowed down a little. Nothing that really bothered me enough to effect gameplay tho. Hardly noticeable really.

morganfell5562d ago (Edited 5562d ago )

I have to disagree with you guys. I have a 60Gb PS3 w/320GB HDD, Sony 52in XBR. Just finished the first run through on Assembly. Not one single issue with tearing or framerates. Quite honestly flipping back and forth the 360 colors seem a little subdued. That was even true when I turned on RGB limited on the PS3. In fact small details like the handle on Chris' machete, and the pane of glass in the window are noticeably better on the PS3.

I am not sure where people are getting the slow downs but I am moving around a lot. I waited until the axeman broke through the wall and nothing, not an issue at all.

MisterNiwa5562d ago (Edited 5562d ago )

To the 360 comments, on what 360 Consoles do you guys play? I play on an Arcade, maybe you guys play on an Elite or such, cuz it got better hardware thats why you got no tearing or stuff?
I get tearing and the Framerate on 360 but its really on par with PS3, but no issues so far.

I dont know whats with your PS3 Joker.. but i really didnt get any framerate issues to see.. =/

But in the end, the two are really similiar to eachother, good job Capcom!
Now i want my Zombies back in Dead Rising 2, for PS3, XB360 and PC!
:D

dragunrising5562d ago

Is it hard for you to say that both versions look excellent? I played RE5 for both and here are my impressions:

No screen tear for either version. Color for both is very similar. Very hard to say which is better.

Of note, I played RE5 on two separate displays at different resolutions. The PS3 version I played on a 40in 1080p Samsung TV and the 360 version I played on a 22in 720p Samsung LCD (my desktop monitor). Both versions never dropped in frame rate. I have yet to test the 360 in 1080p however. It's going to be hard to decide which to get, that's for sure.

morganfell5561d ago (Edited 5561d ago )

I didn't say either version looked great. Didn't you notice that? They both look passable and next gen but certainly not Killzone 2 worthy as was discussed the other day ad nauseum on this board.

Better does not equal good. What is the baseline? How hard is it just to read what I wrote. (Note that's a rhetorical statement, not a question.)

dragunrising5561d ago (Edited 5561d ago )

OK...so if the game isn't Killzone 2, it doesn't have great graphics? I'm rather disappointed with you as this game is a visual feast. Also, why does your coin toss always go to the PS3 when there are graphics comparisons? You are always the odd man out in the comments in this regard; always with clear slant to your arguments. My comment reflected on the fact that you always have this "clear as day" bias. Its not hard to say an 360 game looks good is it? If you didn't come off as a complete f@nboy I might take you more seriously, and send you more critical PM's (you have to unblock me!). I expect more said about the graphics if your comparing two different versions. You only talk about the color and don't reference anything else aside from your TV.

Edit: From my initial impressions, I see a clear difference in playing in 1080p as opposed to 720p. Currently the nod goes to the PS3 because of my setup. Otherwise there is no discernible difference. Still need to hook up the 360 via HDMI to the big screen.

Morgan, if you are using the expanded setting on your TV, you should switch it. The expanded is for LCD Monitors as they typically have weaker black levels. Try playing on standard. Also, my PS3 is on RGB limited. The way I have my TV calibrated, RGB Full is too dark.

Bazookajoe_835561d ago

Thanks for the answer, i will try and play it with 720p instead and see if the screentearing goes away..

MegaMohsi5562d ago

Maybe they'll release the KZ2 demo before thursday too in NA, for the people who reserved it at gamestop.

UnwanteDreamz5562d ago

Man I wish. After getting the RE5 demo yesterday (Japan) I had to try my code this morning. No luck, 3 more days just 3 more days.....

TheHater5562d ago

Dead Space is better than this game. This game however will sell a lot more and get better reviews because it is Resident Evil. Anyone that put the name aside will notice that this game cannot compare to Dead Space. That the way I see this.

Drealmcc0y5562d ago

you're comparing a full game to a demo? Thats clever of you....

bassturd5562d ago

Not saying RE5 demo is bad (I hate the AI COOP component everything else is great)

but I really disliked the Dead Space demo. I played it for like 5 minutes and thought it was crap. I ended up getting the full game and think it is only 2nd to MGS4 in terms of best singleplayer experience of 2008. Demos can sometimes give off the wrong impression.

360 man5562d ago

WHAT PSN USERS ARE JUS GETTIN IT NOW !!!

JustinSaneV25562d ago

Probably has something to do with MS throwing cash around again.

bassturd5562d ago

a week later...like it matters. The game doesn't come out for a month. Who cares when you get the demo. Now if you got the game early...that would be something. But a demo? Who gives a f*ck?

jackdoe5562d ago

Well, it is due to a marketing deal made between Capcom and MS. As a result, PS3 owners were unsure of when exactly they could get the demo until IGN and other gaming sites pressed Capcom for a release date.

RGB5562d ago

1st. i'll finish up with 360 f*ck, this is not to 360 users just this n00b, first of all, RE5 demo has been in jap since the preorder bundle was confirmed, so japanese people preorder the bundle get the demo & cancel the order. simple. so Playstation japan has had it for months.

2nd. wow i love this game so much, this will surely be my GoTY 2009, the game is brilliant, amazing & awesome. the coop is sick. its brill, i love it, i love it, i love it.

UnwanteDreamz5561d ago

STFU you know damn well we got it a week after you. That was a pathetic attempt at trolling.

One of my favourites because of the co-op. Then Resi 6 arrived and the series nosedived further.

Knightofelemia50d ago

I enjoyed the game co-oping with a friend I know the game in solo the AI can be an idiot but RE5 is way better then RE6. I played RE6 with a friend if it wasn't cheap when I got I would have avoided RE6.

thesoftware73050d ago (Edited 50d ago )

5 was excellent, still play Mercs with my brother.
I would love a fully remastered RE:5, with some added, reworked content. The DLC for 5 was also excellent.

6 was awful.

CrimsonWing6950d ago

I never understood why the game was misunderstood. It was a fantastic game at launch and is still fun today to play. It’s as action packed as Resident Evil 4 was, yet that’s regarded a masterpiece 🤷‍♂️

chobit_A5HL3Y50d ago

it was "misunderstood" because they introduced co-op into the franchise at a time when people loved to have fake rage about co-op. like, you could play the game as a solo experience, but people chose to have their bandwagon rage because it was cool at the time lol

-Foxtrot50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

What the hell are you talking about? Fake Rage? Bandwagon? Come on.

You can play it solo but you are forced to carry around a shitty AI partner you have to micro manage. It wasn't as fun solo.

Co-op sucked all the horror, tension and suspense from the game because having a partner covering you was like a safety net. Enemy trying to sneak up on you? No sweat the AI will just automatically lock on, alert you while they shoot first telling you where they are basically.

It was the start of Capcoms fall with the Resident Evil series where it basically become an over the top generic action game which betrayed it's own survival horror roots. Least RE4 had a good blend of both but Capcom just went the wrong way with RE5, especially going off what they were going to do during the RE4.5 beta phase before co-op was added.

franwex50d ago

At least the game was a ton of fun tho. If the game was bad, the outrage would’ve been justified. They simply pivoted for a couple of games. At this point it’s bad because it’s called Resident evil 5? But if was called something else it would’ve been good? Please.

chobit_A5HL3Y49d ago

like i said: fake baby rage and bandwagon hate. res4 wasn't really that scary, either, and was already taking the series into more of an action-oriented direction at the time. 5 was a good game that people fake-hated because of co-op that you didn't even have to play lol hence the fake rage and bandwagon hate. i mean, it obviously did well enough for capcom to go ahead and make 6 the way they did, right? if 5 was so bad, they would have changed what 6 was during development. the difference is that 6 was actually just bad.

people "hate" 5 because res4 was so good, and 5 was just unfortunate enough to be its successor. like i said, 4 wasn't scary, either, and relied more on tension than horror, but it was already more of an action game. if you don't wanna like 5 because it's not scary or whatever- that's fine, but it wasn't meant to be strictly a horror game anymore at that point anyways. the gameplay was a lot faster-paced than 4, so saying that the ai helping you by potentially shooting someone that was sneaking up behind you is a moot point. there were more enemies that were more aggressive, along with newer threats.

5 isn't as good as 4, but it's not a bad game by any stretch.

Tody_ZA24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

What? I always thought RE5 had fake controversy because it was set in South Africa and you shot a bunch of black zombies. I live in South Africa and thought the game was absolutely awesome, played the whole thing co-op with my brother.

@Foxtrot I think you're confusing the garbage Dead Space 3 with Resident Evil 5. Resident Evil 4 was already a hyper action game and had zero fear factor other than the grotesque appearance of some enemies.

Remake of Resident evil outbreak as well as file 2. Same gameplay as the recent remakes. Choose what ever character you want to play as. With online co op.

DarXyde209d ago

I've been dying to see Outbreak come back for years.

Even RE Zero and Code Veronica would be excellent.

But for the love of God, not RE5 or RE6.

One they get around to the aforementioned games, why not remake the original Devil May Cry trilogy? That would be a much better use of time. At the very least, the first two games.

justsomeoffdude210d ago (Edited 210d ago )

code veronica should be the nest remake

neutralgamer1992209d ago

CV is good candidate for a remake but requires way more work for today’s standard. People look at CV through their tinted glasses. I think capcom wants to remake every game up till 6 and fix the plot holes so they can continue the series in one straight story path

Also not sure why only RE have to get remade when there are other capcom games that would be better suited for remakes like oninusha

DVAcme209d ago

That's PRECISELY the reason Code Veronica needs a remake. All the other RE games aged pretty well, considering the limitations of the time, but Code Veronica is the game that would be served the best bybremaking it because it feels so archaic these days.

neutralgamer1992209d ago

DVA

But it depends if capcom wants a big project or a quick remake. CV will require a lot more work than RE5

IMO they should remake other games before doing RE5

TheEnigma313210d ago

how many times do we have to say CV is the next best one?

CrimsonWing69210d ago

Nooooo! Why the hell can’t they do Code Veronica? I just don’t understand.

1Victor210d ago

RE5 is the closest to the bottom of the pot(a little smoky flavor but passable in a emergency) before we get to the burned crust that is 6 that not even the pigs would eat

CrimsonWing69210d ago (Edited 210d ago )

Unpopular opinion here, but I enjoyed 5 and 6. I just think, in terms of Remakes, the classics are the one that should get the treatment above the modern takes of the franchise.

Don’t get wrong, RE4 definitely was an outstanding Remake, but RE5… I just get less excited about a Remake for that over something like Code Veronica.

RaidenBlack210d ago

Nope.
Rather remake other past Capcom & non-mainline RE games ... IF they have to continue churning out Remakes.
I'd rather want a new 3rd person RE spin-off
Dino Crisis and Onimusha Reboot
New IPs after Pragmata ships
