Epic Games Gears Up for Greatness

The company behind the critically acclaimed Gears of War has seen its visually stunning shooter sell over 3 million copies in its first 10 weeks -- making it the fastest and best selling Xbox 360 game ever.

As game development becomes ever more expensive and complex, Epic is poised to become every publisher's best friend. The company is licensing Gears' underlying technology, the Unreal Engine 3, to some of the biggest names in the business: Sony, THQ and Electronic Arts.

Last week, Epic said Japanese superpublisher Square Enix, maker of Final Fantasy, had also licensed Unreal -- a shocking move, in a country whose developers are typically secretive and insular.

Wired News spoke to Epic's vice president Mark Rein about the future of Gears and Unreal.

$180000000 dollars in profit for Gears Of War so far at 3 million copies...that's ridiculous good. Than they only spent 10 Mil to make it, plus they license their engine out for money...my god do I need some of their stock

Review - The Hungry Lamb: Traveling in the Late Ming Dynasty (PC) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Oliver Shellding: "I feel The Hungry Lamb is for a specific audience, though I can’t quite align with whom that might be. It’s not thrilling enough to land in constant VN recommendations, it’s got uncomfortable relationships which will put most people off, and the endings never hit the high note that satisfies everything. The twists are pretty recognizable from a distance, the voice acting is good, the character designs are alright and the pacing is decent. So many things rubbed me the wrong way and it makes it very easy to delete it from my PC concluding the review. Dive in if you must because of morbid fascination, but you’ve been cautioned: it’s a downward spiral without anything to make the trip worthwhile."
