Octopath Traveler Prequel for iOS & Android Gets New Trailer Revealing New Villain

Today Square Enix released a new trailer of its mobile JRPG Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent showing the villain Titus.

I wish Square would stop with this mobile crap. They have released about 30 mobile games in the past few years. I really want an Octopath Traveler 2. I put about 100 hours into the first one; an absolute masterpiece. Maybe, they can rerelease that on PS4/5/Xbox so I can get the platinum trophy and hopefully see it's sequel on systems other than Switch.

For what it's worth, their mobile teams and console teams aren't stepping on each others' toes. It's not like a game on mobile means they aren't going to make a proper Octopath 2 for consoles. If anything, this might show they have faith in the brand and are keeping the title in the gaming zeitgeist (lol) so interest might be up when a sequel is announced. Or that they have faith in the IP and are interested in trying to grow the audience before a sequel hits.

This will be some weird gacha typed game, not a full blown like $40 console tier mobile game. So don't think that by this being out, it's saying a new Octopath game on consoles is a no go, or that it is taking up dev time that would be used for creating a sequel. Basically, if you don't like mobile stuff then just ignore it - it'll be like they never even made anything lol.

I don't really see how that game could have a prequel. Aside from the individual character stories, there wasn't much in terms of heavy lore was there?

There was incredible amounts of lore and world building but I don’t know how they are doing this prequel. They can make up any story like a past war or whatever. Personally for the sequel, I think they should go with 8 brand new characters and just have the original 8 in their for context and side stories.
