Definitely trying the demo once I'm home.

I really liked the game. The original version that is... I bought this and Observation (fantastic game) on the same day.

MadLad1350d ago

I also own the original. Great game. I just want to see the visual differences, after being impressed by some of the recent videos.

I'm running 2 1660tis, so I know I can't make use of the raytracing coming later, but still cool to see them updating it in this way.

Same here. Purchased on Steam when it originally launched. Just bought the upgrade. Definite PS5 version for me as well. Love the game.

The_Sage1350d ago

The videos I've seen of the upgrade look amazing. You'll have to let me know. My pc is ready to be completely replaced. I haven't used it for games in years.

It looks really nice, and runs well. I don't have the newest tech in my rig, but it's no slouch. I was able to max everything at ultra with a steady 60fps no issue at 1440p.

4K, I locked at 42, which is what I typically do run pushing 4K on higher end that are a little too demanding. But basically everything maxed out, outside of aliasing (not really needed at this res) and I knocked the shadows down a peg.

The only thing I don't like is the chromatic aberration, which I think is overdone and choose not to use. Though I understand its use in a game like this.

Thank you for the update, Real. I've only played through the original version once... Would you say that it is worth buying the updated version based on your experience?

MadLad1348d ago (Edited 1348d ago )

If you have it on PC, via Steam, they're currently offering an 80% off discount, which I say go for it. Otherwise, it's a good "remaster", and has some extra content, which is nice, but I wouldn't say it warrants buying it all over again.

Definitely worth it after a price drop.

The_Sage1348d ago

Thanks again... I really appreciate your advice.

Played the original game last year. I hope you enjoy the demo. I thought it was well worth buying the full game.

A lot of my favourites are on this list so I whole heartedly approve.
Everything except The Observer. It started out really interesting but quickly unraveled into a train wreck. Including frustratingly dull dives into mind sequences, They neutered the monster with boring on rail stealth sequences and a laughably obvious and cringeworthy ending. Mix in bugs and some wonky controls to boot.
I had really strong impressions with it to start but ended up absolutely hating it.

I got 2-3hrs in and couldn't take it anymore, the constant need to switch between the 3 visions just became so annoying and honestly just unnecessary.

monkey602549d ago

I actually agree. At first I thought it was a great idea because the game wasn't holding your hand with the Detective work but it was so unintuitive too. It became a sequence of staring at everything for long enough in 3 different vision modes just to see what stuck.

Soma would be more existential horror than anything but I'll be damned if it didn't have one of the best stories in game that I've experienced. Blew my mind.

Observer: System Redux Review - Thumb Culture

"Way back in 2017, hot off the heels of Layers of Fear, developers Bloober Team continued the psychological horror trend with Observer. It would seem they have found their niche because Layers of Fear 2, Blair Witch, and The Medium followed. Observer: System Redux is the base game but with additional story content and improved graphics." Brian @ Thumb Culture
