Watch Gears 5 running on Xbox Series X this July 16th

This Thursday July 16, The Coalition will show an enhanced version of Gears of War 5 running on Xbox Series X, while also revisiting some of its tech like Facial Animation systems, Dynamic Character Rigs, Lighting and Cover System.

Unoptimized it was doing 100 fps 4k features and techniques that aren't found even in a higher end pc set ups. That was done in a 2 week build according to The Coalition. Just think how much they can achieve while optimizing it.

I want to see the new stuff. Don't get me wrong, this is going to be a nice showcase of what it can do in regards to backwards compatibility. But here's the thing, and this is my perspective on it.

I have the One X, and Gears looks absolutely amazing on it. As do all of the games that I have that are enhanced for the One X. In fact, since I purchased the One X, I have switched the overwhelming majority of my 3rd party titles from the PS4 Pro to the X, just for that reason alone.

But do I need to have Gears 5, Forza 4, et al... enhanced even more? I know that my TV, as nice as it is, can't do 120 FPS, at least do it properly. Especially since we have all seen in previous videos from Microsoft and Digital Foundry what the Series X is capable of in regards to this already.

I want the new games. I want the new IP's. I want a reason other than even more BC enhanced stuff for me to want to spend upwards of 1200.00 combined between the Series X and the PS5 this holiday, because yes, I have been saving gift cards for the past 18 months for this exact moment this year. And I understand this isn't a Sony article, but they have a phenomenal track record of 1st Party stuff. It's unquestioned.

To me, this event tomorrow is more of what most of us, the hardcore have already seen. Now, if they show us new IP's running at 120 FPS, then we've got something really special here.

Their are many more PC monitors sold that display 120fps just fine than their are TVs. Millions of console gamers use PC monitors to game on. However, its the capability of the SX that was the focal point of my post. If the SX can get Gears 5 running at 120fps, it means we are in for a treat in terms of the capability of the console.

Hey that's true, which is why they've bought like 6 new studios.

Also Xbox is the only console whose top IPs are multiplayer centric. You don't kill off multiplayer games that have existing fans logging in every day. It's easier to so with single player games. Additional IPs should be new games from new studios, which hopefully they'll reveal.

There is nothing wrong with the diversity of this lineup.

Wasteland 3, Grounded, Bleeding Edge, Flight Sim, Hellblade 2, and more. That's in addition to Gears 5, more Forza, and a different type of Minecraft game.

InXile and Obsidian alone vastly add to their portfolio. Double Fine next game won't be in the normal diversity of Xbox games.

The games are there people, let's stop using this old argument and recognize it. There's no issue supporting old IPs and having new ones, which is what they're doing. I mean, how many people want Sony to make a new Killzone? The next Uncharted? Bring back old IPs?

That has absolutely nothing to do with what he said, as its a standalone of a new game with a new story, new content, new enemies, and new protagonist. In comparison to Gears being on its 6th game in the main series, and this being an enhanced version of Gears 5.

That being said I'm looking forward to seeing what they've been able to accomplish with this, I'm thinking the PC version in 4K @ 60fps Ultra / High settings, with some Series X specific upgrades added to it, which is great on its own. There's supposed to be a rumored 120fps mode for multiplayer which will likely be 1440p, since most 4K TV's still don't support Native 120fps on 4K settings.

This is a great idea. Maybe they could show Xbox One enhanced games until the event. Show SoT next, then MCC, Forza Horizon 4, Killer Instinct, etc. It probably won't happen, but it would be a nice build up until the XBox showcase.

The game is actually quite good. I've enjoyed my time with it. Multiplayer is more varied than ever. Not quite so shotgun heavy. I mean it still dominates close range but the other guns are actually good now so I like all of it.

I think Gears overall just needs to take a very long break before they make another. Maybe do a Tactics port for SX, then take a good long break. I wanna see the Coalition make something new.
