It is pretty questionable, considering that this site is heavily Sony, and it's exceedingly rare to get more than 100 votes for any comment, and 20-30 is usually the higher end. Usually the one's that reach the 100 mark are about console agnostic issues which are controversial, and someone makes a stinging argument that everyone agrees with.

The point this year is that MS has the ability to make multiple games while the big AAA games that everyone wants is still in the making. Small groups from Rare and Obsidian are making games but their main team are still at work on the next big thing. MS is just showing they can announce games at any part of the year not just E3.

People like me are disappointed because they brought the Xbox expecting MS to provide it with a bunch of games like it was promised when Phil first took over. The problem came when they didn't bring lots of games, and all I heard was, "it takes time", "Things will be great in the future".

If I had known that when I brought the X1, I could have just waited until the time came that it would take them to make games, or when they were eventually great at some time in the vaguely defined future. Because, it seems that when it comes to MS, some people are willing to spend years waiting for them to deliver, but God forbid Sony reveals a game more than a year out, because then they announce games too early, and all the games they release in the mean time go unmentioned.

I've never really understood why people care. If you don't like Xbox, just don't buy one. Simple really. Due to sales numbers it is pretty hard to deny that more people out there are Sony fans. Why can't they just enjoy their console without the need to put Xbox fans down. The opposite is also true of Xbox fans who post negative stuff about PS.

Currently the biggest differentiating factor for me is Game Pass. I really like it and think it is great value for money. The fact of the matter is that most "gamers" now are the more casual ones who don't have 100's of hours to sink into their gaming habit. Game Pass helps provide a good low cost solution for the masses. I know Sony has their own version, but see above as to why I probably won't end up trying it.

Personally I chose Xbox from the OG days and continue to support them. Honestly it is mostly the same reason I continue buying Android phones instead of Apple. They both have their pluses and minuses, but at the end of the day are two very similar ways of doing the same thing. For me it is more of a hassle to change and learn a new system than to stick with what I have been using. I don't have the money or time to mess with 2 different consoles and they both basically do the same thing.

I'm not trying to add to the negativity, but that's kind of a problem too, though. The artstyle is nice, but we have no idea what the game actually is about. They didn't talk about it, nor show gameplay. We can kind of dream our own game, but that risks the chance that when it is properly revealed that, if it isn't what we had in mind, disappointment will likely follow. Because, as a wise man once said, people quite like their own ideas lol.

It also made me remember that PS4 game WiLD. Not stylistically, but the name and kind of the focus on animals and nature. Made me wonder what happened to that game. It still has a page on the PS site and is still talked about as being in development. Very weird.

Sure, but it looked like something i might be interested in. That may change as we learn more, but for now, it's the only one that peaked my interest. If it's just some new co-op random questing and play with friends game in the vein of SoT, then I'll change my mind. But if it's a new SP action or adventure game then I'll probably stay interested.

I don't expect all details to be released at a reveal. It'd be nice to know more of course, but I can wait it out a bit. I think even though I wasn't too impressed with most of what they showed, it's still worth giving some credit to things that do interest someone in particular.

Gamepass+xcloud really is a great deal and a massive slap in google's face but what i liked the most is that push for AA games made by AAA publishers wich clearly shows the direction Xbox studios are heading and in doing so will avoid any exclusive droughts like we experienced in the past.

Only Microsoft could make studio acquisitions, stage-worthy. In all honesty, if you're respectful, you'll go in on the studios that you've worked with in the recent past on exclusive games that are successful for both parties. That's how Sony and Nintendo have done it historically. Insomniac? Monolith Soft? Makes sense and is respectful for all involved including the fans. As an Xbox owner with Gamepass I saw no less than 15-20 games that I'll get to play in the next year that I'm excited to play so. Plus with the basic understanding that this is this end of the gen with next E3 set to be the big Scarlett reveal I'm not sure what was expected.

It's kind of interesting how their shows work now. If you're in on Game Pass, then you're probably in on the show; by which I mean, instead of seeing a game and having to envision spending $20-60 on it, you get to go "nice, I have the pass, I get to play this game". You kind of have this thought of ownership already. If you aren't in on Game Pass? Then the show kind of takes on a different tone.

I've experienced both sides of the coin, as I've had periods with and without Game Pass and felt both sides. I think MS also tends to slant their shows heavily on GP, so to those that aren't subscribers are going to favor it less than those that are simply due to where the focus is. It's an interesting position they have, and showing that it can be hard to balance that line when appealing to both audiences.

But XO now is to Xbox what PSX was to Sony. A show that yes, can have big announcements and garner some hype going in, but is primarily speaking to the hardcore fans deep in the Xbox ecosystem who want to hear about indies coming to Gamepass, Sea of Thieves DLC, or new controllers. The same way PSX spoke to people who wanted see Sony come out and talk about the vita, Housemarque games, and special edition PS4's.

I'm not sure what people expected from XO19. I just saw it as a fan fest type of thing and wasn't expecting anything so was pleasantly surprised to see any new exclusives. I have the feeling other people were expecting a full E3 type presentation where Xbox blew their load announcing every new blockbuster for the next 10 years.
It's all about seeing these things for what they are, I thought it was obvious what it was but apparently I was among the few.

I'm not saying I agree with the author, but I fell they outlined well enough why it seemed problematic; that it didn't really do anything to focus on one aspect and ended up feeling a bit disjointed and lacking focus. It didn't really feel like a fan event, as they had very few fan-specific things and it felt very tailored to the streaming with some strange omissions for the folks who actually were at the event. It didn't feel like a celebration. It didn't feel like a publication/trade show, when many of those types went, with the lack of announcements that had the punch you'd expect for such an event.

I also think Game Pass adds some interesting wrinkles in how they end up focusing their event and then, subsequently, the takeaway different people have - those with Game Pass and those without. I think they are still working out some of the kinks with this strategy, but I can see it working out in the long run.

Yes, it was a fan fest/gamepass hybrid show with a few smaller exclusives sprinkled in there (though the Rare game may be something more substantial) so I agree it wasn't very focused and MS always comes across as corporate in their delivery which is something they have to work on. I would have loved to have seen bigger AAA titles announced but even though I hate to say it we probably won't see any of those until next E3.

Once again though it's about expectations, unless it's E3 i don't really expect much to be announced.

On one side, the article seems to talk about the physical event, the show floor. while the other side seems to focus on the presentation itself.

If we talk about the show floor, then I fail to see what's missing from other shows like E3, Gamescon, Comicon and local trade show. You expect to play the current big game, some demo from upcoming games like Grounded and get some free stuff.
Exactly what happened.
And as far as I know, there's not a big Reddit thread of attendants complaining about how they wasted their time there.

I don't think it was disappointing. I was disappointed a lot this gen by MS as at the start of the gen they backed away from first party games and focused more on the media features of XB. Once Phil took over there was a house cleaning exercise. And now, he has steadily improved XB starting with BC and now with their team of first party studios and a huge focus on first party games. They still have work to do.

At this event we saw two new first party games (Ever Wild and Grounded), they showed that they are shipping a bunch of interesting games between now and E3... Minecraft Dungeons, Wasteland 3, and Bleeding Edge so MS is "filling" the year in better. And when they showed the indie games (unlike the past few years) I felt they were more gamer oriented indie games. And I like that they are working on getting more far east content with Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Yakuza. Finally, they also continued to show support for the platform as a whole. With xCloud and more GamePass announcements.

I know a lot of people that seem to dislike GamePass, but numbers don't lie, and since GamePass has cut my game spending by 60% and at the same time I have been able to play more games. I know GamePass may not be for everyone, but with me it is saving me a lot of money. And at the same time Game Developers seem to like the financial aspects of the model on their side so to me it is a win-win.

At the start of this gen, they had 1st party games and lots of 2nd party content. They didn't back off of that until Spencer took over. He did abandon the media features, or at least didn't focus on them, but then he just went for service and subscription models while taking years to get to the games focus. How, after several years of non-delivery can anyone say that what they're doing is good? Do you really think that after all these years of non-delivery, cancellations, vaguely defined promises for the future both on what and when, and constant hype for things that just weren't happening to really be focusing on games?

MS focus as on retaining customers, and finding whatever they could besides games to keep the hype for the system going. In the end, they maintained that by essentially giving games away for free. Think of it this way. Right now, Epic is trying to promote their store with free games. That's essentially what MS is doing by practically giving away games. Retain customers. Maybe pick up a few. Hope to keep them into next gen. Everything MS is doing right now is to save next gen, because as far as I can tell, they haven't cared about this gen at all. All they seem to care about is maintaining this illusion that they care about gaming, the consumers, and their reputation which is in the tank.

I'm not sure what house cleaning they did, as only a couple of the top execs left when Mattrick left. The rest of the Xbox management team is still pretty in tact.

Nobody has the infrastructure that is anywhere on par with what Xbox has built this generation. Nobody has the software support that Xbox brings, nobody supports backwards compatibility like Xbox, and Xbox has lead the way with cross-platform Live service support and crossplatform game support, across Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, PC and iOS/Android.

Not to mention, when it comes to streaming, xCloud, from what is being reported, has the best performance of any streaming service, and allows you to stream digital games you already own, for free, which nobody else has. Gamepass on xCloud also increases the value proposition offered over ever other service available, hands down.

To put a negative spon on what they are doing is just plain stupid. Also, once all of their 13 1st party studios start producing high quality games at regular intervals, you will look foolish for talking such nonsense. You need to snap out of it and broaden your horizons a bit.

As a long time Sony customer, I hope they are able to get it together, because currently, their only hope lies in console sales, and their streaming service. Really? Xbox doesn't have true BC though. Its pared down to a minimum and they already cut support. The vast majority of my 360 library is unplayable on Xbox One so please stop with the blatant lies. What you just said about 360 backwards compatibility is totally false and dumb. Which games of any consequence are not playable? I have roughly 60 b/c titles on my Xbox One, all with working online infrastructure, and with populated servers depending on the popularity of the game. You can voice chat, send messages and add friends while playing b/c games, and open the old Xbox 360 dashboard while in-game.

Buying an old console to play games isn't b/c, and since you don't understand what it means, I will spell it out for you.... b/c is when you can take new hardware and play old games from previous generations of hardware, which is something that PS4 cannot do. Besides, even if you do pull out an old PS3 to play old Sony exclusives, they've shut the servers down on ALL of their old 1st party games, so have fun with that.

Except I can't go back and play my library so no it's not true BC. I can't say reach into my library of 360 games and play say Culdcept or the majority of my games. Playing a handful of games is not true BC. I can't go back and play the majority of my 360 collection. My PS3 can play ALL my PS2 and PS1 games. I have my 360 setup to play Culdcept and other games that my Xbox One can't play at all.

Or are you telling me that I can somehow start playing ALL my 360 games on the Xbox One now?! So your saying you and I can get into a multiplayer match with you in Culdcept? Oh right it's not actually even playable for Xbox One. I have to go back to my 'old' system to play it.

At least name a game that people have heard of. Culdcept probably didn't make it over because nobody cares about that game. Before b/c rolled out, there was voting on Microsoft's website, asking fans what games they'd like to see made backwards compatible, and over 400 games made it onto the list. Most were popular games, but there are many obscure games that I was surprised to see on the list.

By the way, Soul Caliber 1 & 2 are on the list. It's funny how hard you're working on trying to downplay this feature. Also, lets keep the backward compatible talk to current gen. PS4 has no b/c, which is what you are sour about, and because of that, you want to talk PS3. Well, guess what, I have a PS3 also, and I'm currently running through TLoU. I actually still have a small backlog of games on that system.

Ultimately though, PC is king, which is where I spend most of my time. I only have a little bit of time for peasantry, but not much. Also, I have no time for non_backwards compatible systems, which is why I bought my Xbox One when it was rumored that b/c would be implemented. I support the consoles/platforms with the best features, and yes, PS3 was a far better console over the 360 overall imo, although the U.I. was sluggish and lacked some key features.

It's called the art of war. MS was never going to reveal details on Scarlet at X019. Sony's had the honor of going second or last at these reveals for years. Now it's time for them to put up or shut up. Your call Sony reveal your wares because this time your going to have to fight off the egg on your face. I got GamePass Ultimate for £1 & lasts 3 months... it's brilliant. Kids can play on the PlayStation l'm on the big screen playing Xbox. Double brilliant.
