Pokemon Let's Go Sold Only 52% and 62% of Initial Shipment in Japan According to Media Create

While at first sight Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon : Let’s Go, Eevee! launched successfully in Japan, the weekly analysis just released by statistics firm Media Create paints a slightly different picture.

Um... this just means that they shipped tons of copies. They will all be sold soon enough, and then they'll ship more. What's the problem?

Actually, considering that it sold just a little more than half of what Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon did, it means that they expected it to sell more or less as much as its predecessor, and it didn't.

It's not a "problem" per se, but it tells us (as Media Create mentions) that the efforts to attract a new audience didn't work that well for now, at least in Japan.

Which isn't all that unexpected, because Japanese gamers don't really like change all that much.

Felix_Argyle_Catbro1993d ago

Interesting, thank you for your answer.

michellelynn09761993d ago

Tell me. How many 3ds were sold in Japan when USUM came out.

Sirk7x1992d ago

Ultra came out like, 7 years into the 3DS life, with probably triple the amount of 3ds sold compared to Switch units. You can hardly compare. I say look at attach rate and how many consoles the game moves itself.

Neonridr1992d ago

nothing, it just gives the trolls something to write about. Jesus, the game did 3 million in 3 days, sold like 650k physical copies in Japan alone. Let's give it a few weeks to see where the numbers sit.

Neonridr1990d ago

@SSj4Ryuk - yet it dominates sales charts everywhere. I mean if 650k copies of Pokemon in Japan in 3 days is a failure, then what is 300k copies of Spiderman in Japan since launch?

michellelynn09761993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

Um it sold nearly 800k counting digital. Another factor is how it was a new type of Pokemon game and a lot of people wanted to see if it was good or not. I look at the long term for this one, not the first 2 or 3 days.

Abriael1993d ago

I'm sure you know better than Media Create :D

michellelynn09761993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

That was from Famitsu who counts digital as well. Also, I don't know more, all I am saying is, it sold systems big time and the people who bought it (for the most part) really enjoyed it. Snark on that.
Also, you never answered me, how many 3ds were sold when USUM came out.

SuperRaccoon1993d ago

While you may be right, we also have to consider that publishers set unrealistic expectations all of the time. They probably based their expectations on the success of Pokemon Go.

michellelynn09761993d ago

Who knows, but it's too early to tell. Let's wait and see.

-Foxtrot1993d ago

Huh...guess people don't want Pokemon GO crap in there games, who knew huh.

michellelynn09761993d ago

3 million in 3 days and it is still selling very well. Not up to you on what people want.

Theknightofnights1993d ago

Dude, it's one of the fastest selling Switch games, and the game is fun to play. As good as a core title? No, but it's not crap and people seem to enjoy it/want it.

EddieNX 1993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

Huh... It's literally the fastest selling Switch game so far. What are you talking about?

As someone else said, 3million in 3 days , it will probably reach 10 mill or so.
It will probably sell not much less than the gen 8 game that comes next year.

King_Noctis1993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

It is fine for a side Pokemon game. You are acting if this is a mainline one.

Also, in what world is 3 million+ copies sold bad? How many games can do this number in a short period of time like this one?

King_Noctis1993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

^

I think there are two Pokemon type game, core and mainline (at least that’s what Nintendo have been saying). This one is a core game. The mainline game is next year.

And, it is still selling. Let's see what happens the second week. Why some people want to doom this game is beyond me.

Zeldafan641993d ago

They want to doom Nintendo.

Nyxus1993d ago

Who's they? Media Create?

Nyxus1993d ago

Who says anyone wants to doom this game? This is just a report with factual numbers. Why are you getting so worked up about it?

michellelynn09761993d ago

Not getting worked up. Just stati g facts.

The Worst Thing About Pokemon Are The Games

Game Freak was used to smaller platforms and from Sword & Shield onwards were expected to scale up in the midst of a pandemic. That’s when it all started to go wrong, but it isn’t until now that fans are finally starting to smell the pixelated roses.

While the games began to lag behind and make their shortcomings ever so clear, the wider Pokemon community and other pieces of media kept on trucking.

I only ever got up to Pokemon Yellow. I still go back every handful of years for some nostalgia.

shinoff2183533d ago

I'd like to try Pokémon someday. I was probably just a hair older and missed the og Pokémon craze back in the day. My issue with Pokémon is the 2 games thing. Stop selling them like that. Put it all into one. I feel that's a giant rip-off. Say what you want

Elda533d ago (Edited 533d ago )

I never had any interest to play Pokémon video games, never watched the cartoons as well. Guessing because when it all started I was way into my adulthood.

Number1TailzFan533d ago

I tried one via an emulator once. Did not like it. IMO Custom Robo Arena had far better gameplay that had full real time combat control. Turn based games that i actually liked are very few and far between, like Worms 2 & Armageddon with their online play.

gold_drake533d ago

it started to go wrong when the shift to 3d happened, decades after everyone else.

imo, GF spent way too long in the 2D development world and just couldnt do it. what we got was bugs, lack of polish and experience.

but that will never change since the games sell like crazy.
