The Surge 2 Carves Its Own Action-RPG Niche With An Improved Dynamic Combat System | The Koalition

Max Moeller from The Koalition writes: Deck 13’s The Surge was a surprise hit for me last year. Though I’m a big fan of difficult action-RPGs, I wasn’t very impressed with the team’s first attempt, Lords of The Fallen. Because of this, I went into The Surge expecting little yet receiving a lot. Despite some issues with enemy variety, there was the right amount of dystopian future and distinctive combat mechanics to hold my interest through to the end.

I was even more surprised at the announcement of a sequel to the game. Rather excitedly, I was fortunate enough to see a hands-off demo of The Surge 2 at this years E3. From this short experience, I can already tell Deck 13 has taken the feedback from the first game to heart.

Just going through DS 2 now, it's really not a bad game.

LoveSpuds606d ago

I thinks it's a fantastic game personally, even the weakest DS game in the series is better than most other action RPGs in my opinion.

Hope you enjoy your playthrough chief 👍

It was a great game, there is no souls game from fromsoft that was bad. My only complaints were the visuals and bosses were a bit too easy. Other than that it was very fun and probably the only soulsbourne game I played nonstop and beat in just a couple of weeks pre-elden ring (Well, it took me to beat three other soulsborne games which took me years to beat to finally actually get hooked to souls, so I was very hungry for more souls lol).

People didn't like it because of no Miyazaki and the only game I really loved from him was just Bloodborne (Ofc the rest were great games too). Bloodborne is my #1, Ds2 is my #2.

Yeah bosses are not exactly hard that I have come across so far. The graphics are a mixed bag, Scholar of the First Sin on PC with no mods.
Admission time even though I own all Souls games day one editions across the formats, Elden Ring was the only one that really clicked with me to a point I had to finish it. Now going back to ones released on PC to finish those or try to. Bloodborne I wish would come to PC but I might fire up my PS 4 again to play it.

It's wonky here and there, but it's still fun to play and a great world to explore.

People gave DS2 way too much hate.

Deck13 Says The Surge 2 Next-Gen Patch Might Not Happen, Calls New Project "something fresh"

From GameWatcher: "Developer Deck13 has confirmed once more, responding to a fan question on Twitter, that the project it is currently working on is not The Surge 3.

Aside from The Surge 3 not being in development, Deck13 also cast doubt on the possibility of a next-gen patch for The Surge 2."

That's mildly disappointing, as they had hinted at a follow-up. Still, going something fresh is perhaps the better way to go.

HyperMoused1241d ago

One was brillaint i felt two was a step back, control wise and the story and environments

SamPao1241d ago

I just started it last week. And yeah hasnt clicked yet. The first was really something special

Nacho_Z1241d ago

I didn't really like the first game, it wasn't bad but it didn't work for me. I think they need to stop making not so great Souls spin offs and find their own thing.

IanTH1241d ago

I don't think they need to do a next-gen upgrade, but it would be nice if they could push a quick update to allow 4k60 through backwards compatibility. I'd imagine that wouldn't take a lot of manpower, and really is the more important feature for an action game anyway.
