The Untold History of EA's Long (and Rich) Pay-2-Win Love Affair

This is the story of Andrew Wilson's golden goose and how it saved EA but cost us AAA gaming in 2017.

It's really sad to see a company that was once loved by many gamers stoop so low just to get more money and destroys many talented developers and studios. Greed knows no limits indeed. It will come and bite them in their @ss one day.

This is very enlightening and I really do hope EA and lootboxes (and hopefully, microtransactions too) get slammed and Devs become more hesitant and less willing to implement any such things for it. I honestly hope EA crashes and has the Star Wars IP removed from them and they get canceled like they so murdered all their own studios out of greed.

Fantastic insight into the utter STENCH that occupies the executive suite at EA. It is clear they will NOT be changing this system. Andrew Wilson seems to think people like getting screwed. I for one cannot believe people are spending that kind of money on loot boxes/cards or whatever you want to call them. Very sad.

If this permeates the industry RIP gaming. Also I am now going to not purchase Anthem. I will 200% guarantee this system will be part of the core game. Destroying what looked to be a VERY promising IP.

Also I will now be putting my money where my mouth is and will be shorting EA HARD. They WILL go down, it is only a matter of time. Just imagine if Disney pulls the Star Wars license. That is a guaranteed stock dropper.

"If this permeates the industry RIP gaming"

More like RIP AAA gaming. indie, AA and ugh!!!! mobile will fill that gap.
I really hope alot of AAA developers take note of senua sacrifice and go off on their own to make the games they love without a AAA publisher not this regurgitated crap to make a quick buck that is currently infesting the AAA market

Tom Ellis (star of lucifer) better watch out, if Andrew Wilson gets fired as EA CEO, he'll end up taking Tom's role. I mean just look at him... he looks like the epitome of evil! He'd make the perfect lucifer!

The only PlayStation dev I care about tbh.

Hopefully doesn’t take them a complete gen to release it

Good. Something not boring, not one of those "make your own game" crap and also on Steam would be nice.

I too like to look for things in the wrong places.

"the capital group of PCF Group S.A."

If you're getting funding from a group that needs two different ways of Acronyming itself, things will not go the way you want them to.

If it was more online-only crap then good riddance.

jjb198118h ago

Outriders was crap. They slapped that game together and threw in a loot system to get players' attention. This game was absolutely jank and the always online nonsense made it stutter like crazy. People Can't Optimize.

I liked Outriders but I could see where the artistic vision was compromised. The way the industry is now, it wouldn't surprise me that upper management would scrap something that didn't pull in money via gaas, mts, or other means.
