Finally got around to laying through P5 and I must say it is excellent.

naruga2431d ago (Edited 2431d ago )

probably the voters were most of them younger ages and recent gamers than seasoned ones (25++ ages) ...no matter its high quality imo is far from the title- the best game of all time....

mav8052431d ago

@naruga I'm a 30+ year old player that has played almost exclusively RPG's in my life, both western and JRPG's. Persona 5 was the first time I'd played any Persona game, and it is my favorite game of all time. From start to finish, I found it to be the most consistently fantastic and interesting throughout--of any game I've played. That's even more impressive given that I took 180 hours to beat it, I'll normally abandon a game before then because they just aren't good enough to stay interesting for that long.

Eidolon2431d ago

@mav805
So you are you saying that it's just your favorite game, or it's the best game ever created? I think it's pretty biased to say it is, and it's a biased poll. It's an excellent game, that is all the POLL proves.

Takato_Mon2430d ago

@Mav805
If that is your only Persona game than you are missing playing the other greatest Persona game, Persona 4.

Bit strange how the best game of all time just happens to be the most recent one. Even some of the others so far up the list (Top 10) seem to be quite recent...wouldn't you think with it being "of all time" people would go a little further back with some of them like Dragon Quest III

Persona 5, Splatoon, NieR: Automata, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Final Fantasy XV (No Final Fantasy VIII...seriously)

Abriael2431d ago

"Bit strange how the best game of all time just happens to be the most recent one"

It''s not the most recent one at all?

In a few days it'll be a year old in Japan.

-Foxtrot2431d ago (Edited 2431d ago )

But...on the list

It's not something from the 90s or early 00s is it

I'm just trying to say that by some big chance the greatest video game of all time is one of the many recent ones of the list.

Abriael2431d ago

@-Foxtrot: the breakdown for votes for platforms shows that old games weren't forgotten at all. There were more votes for PS2 and PS1 games than PS4, but they were spread among more games.

-Foxtrot2431d ago

Oh I'm not saying they are forgotten completely just that the majority, even the top spot are all recent like games compared to the rest.

The point is out of all the video games we've ever had, all the games that could be candidates and just somehow, by chance the higher part of the list (Top 10), the one with the biggest votes are last gen/this gen games. Just seems more about what's "in" now, not in general.

I remember when FF13 came out and they asked Japan their favorite main FF character the number 1 spot was Lightning, then when FFXV came out it was Noctis...there was another poll of favorite leading lady in FF which Lightning had yet when FFXV came out it was Luna who took that spot despite her hardly being in the game or having much development. Again...it was the most recent FF game to come out.

-Foxtrot2431d ago

Yeah I'm surprised that's not on the list either.

6. Final Fantasy VII

20. Final Fantasy XI

26. Final Fantasy X

39. Final Fantasy XV

Why o why2431d ago

You missed final fantasy 7. . . 🙁

BlakHavoc2431d ago

FFXV on there is pretty funny. As well as Splatoon, like wtf. My GOAT is MGS followed closely by Mario 64.

The 10th Rider2431d ago

I mean, I could understand Splatoon being on there if it had some MAJOR quality of life improvements and had launched with all the free DLC that eventually came out. the gameplay is really good and addicting. However the quality of life issues (no party voice chat, no changing weapons in lobbies, online with friends being a pain, short single-player, no local co-op, the two-at-a-time map rotations, etc . . . ) REALLY bring it down.

Final Fantasy XV is dumb because it's clearly not the best Final Fantasy game. It's also not even the best open world ARPG out there.

rainslacker2431d ago

Its not uncommon for that to happen.

People have short attention spans, and tend to be most affected by what they have experienced most recently.

Gaming is very much a "what have you done for me lately" kind of industry.

gangsta_red2431d ago

It is definitely one of the best JRPG's to come out of Japan in a looong time (it feels)...the best of all time...can't really say that but at this moment, definitely the most impressive.

il-JumperMT2431d ago

Wanna bet Persona 5 will be ignored in GOTY publications

Persian_Immortal2431d ago

Sadly true but its likely to win 7-10 Goty awards maybe even more depending on how well its remembered when the conversation of Goty pops up for all the publications around the world.

Matrix62431d ago

Any chance of a GOTY edition next year rhen?

monkey6022431d ago

The PS2 was the greatest console ever though!

Born2Game832430d ago

Hands down, no doubt about it.

monkey6022430d ago

SNES just like Sega will always have a place in my heart but the PS2 just kicked it up a notch so much.

Yoko Taro Passes Respect; Says Stellar Blade Is "Much Better" Than Nier: Automata

Stellar Blade's creative director, Hyung Tae Kim, has also claimed that the game is deeply inspired by Nier: Automata.

shadowhaxor10d ago

I feel like Yoko is downgrading Automata because he has expressed multiple times he'd like to revisit the universe, but Squenix hasn't been keen about it. We know he loves 2B and would love to take her out for another spin, so maybe this is how he gets the company to think about it.

gold_drake10d ago

u do realise that Square made Nier a franchise after Automata right?

Taro is downplaying it cause hes not a snob like most of the directors that think their games are gods gifts to the human race.

he said the same thing when being interviewed during the development of Automata too, that he couldnt have done it without the devs.

hes just a humble guy rly.

shadowhaxor10d ago

I mean, Neir existed before Automata with both OG Niers and Drakenguard. I don't count NieR Replicant, since it's a remake of the OG games. Sure, we have Reincarnation, which is still stuck on mobile devices (quite a damned shame). I just remember Taro saying he'd love to revisit Automata if Square Enix lets him. I do recall there was supposed to be a sequel to Automata, but it wasn't confirmed and I'd imagine it was just for Reincarnation.

Enjoy Taro, he seems like a cool guy, who loves the ladies and is humble. But damn, don't put down one of your masterpieces.

Cacabunga10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

I really liked Automata and cannot wait for Stellar Blade

isarai10d ago

I get he's giving them some credit, but i strongly disagree based on the demo. I honestly don't think any aspect of it feels good, it's not bad, it's just kinda ok but definitely a little jank. Also the souls like formula it is adopting does not help it imo. I was looking forward to this for years, now im just kinda let down honestly 🫤

fsfsxii7d ago

Its not a souls like, its a dmc-ish game with rpg elements. Any game with a third person camera and a sword is souls like to these buffoons

H910d ago

Man exputer can you stop putting words like that after someone's name, i read Yoko Taro Passes and just went blank

Snookies1210d ago

Same... Awful way to word that title's beginning.

exputers9d ago

Whoops. Sorry to startle you.

H99d ago

It's alright brother, maybe I am just slow

Hereandthere10d ago

Thats because Sony had a heavy hand in funding and developing this game.

purple10110d ago

They sent in XDEV one of their traveling support studios to Korea to lend a hand if I’m not mistaken, Sony pulled out the big guns to help this studio

jwillj2k410d ago

(From the demo) Stellar has better direction in terms of stage layout if you like that ninja gaiden type feel. Nier is more polished by far.

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens5217d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens5217d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK212117d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

MrNinosan17d ago

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens5216d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

ravens5216d ago

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Barlos17d ago

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani16d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum17d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman17d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim17d ago

Remake is so amazing, pure FFVII Love, play it on PS5 please! aww the graphics the battles, the music... a dream come true.

Rebel_Scum17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

I disagree Batman
