Zelda Breath of the Wild cannot be played with Original Voices on Nintendo Switch

Nevertheless and although it is certain that the title will be able to play in several languages, apparently changing the voices and texts will not be so simple.

The article header is a bit misleading. You CAN play with the Japanese voices, but not through dual audio; you have to change your console region setting to Japanese, which changes everything, text and voices, to Japanese.
Some might prefer to just...ahem...Switch their region right before a big cut scene, but I think dual audio would be so much better. Still, the English voices aren't actually terrible, so I'll deal with it.
Pretty sure the Wii U version will be the same, considering they want consistency between versions.

I listened to a comparison and the english dub is fine, not as good as the japanese voice over but what can you do.

"But what can you do.[sic]" This is exactly why people are commenting on this, to hope Nintendo will still put in dual audio. The only concern would be storage space, but to be honest I find audio just as important as, or even more important than, video. It's silly to think we can't play the original, but have to settle for translated.

I must add, I think the English voiced Zelda sounds amazing.

Storage space is not a concern. The tracks are already included you just can't get English subs with Japanese audio.

@ Deathtok

Very good point!

It's t hard to do. Many games out of Japan have it standard. FFXIV has it for example, and that's been around for a while. You also have FFXV and the sword art games.

Phunkydiabetic13063d ago

If you don't understand Japanese why in the hell would you want to have it Japanese?

"Nintendo has crafted this beautiful game but naahhh I'd rather weeb it up and spend my time reading English subtitles while listening to a language I don't understand."

Ridiculous.

Studio-YaMi3063d ago

It's called "having options" and besides the FACT that Japanese voice actors have damn more emotions when voice acting than other countries of course that's not always the case but most of the time it IS.

If you can't deal with that then that's your problem.

Glemt3062d ago

Well, personally I grew up with having to listen to other languages on TV and in games, and either having to learn them or get damn quick at reading subtitles. It's at most a glance to me, so I miss virtually nothing from what's happening on the screen. So yeah, it might be ridiculous for you, because you'd "weeb it up" but not everyone has that problem. It wouldn't be bad to have options, and it wouldn't hurt people like you at all, so why care? If you aim to understand people that do enjoy the original VA and subs, try to understand them before you judge.

Good. My supply of weeb tears is running low.

Perjoss3063d ago

Id much rather play with the Japanese voice + subs, but looks like that wont be possible. Eventually when the system gets emulated the scene will surely upload a version called an undub which will replace english voices with Japanese but keeps all text in english.

This is beyond retarded. So they have all the language options in game, but won't allow us to put the audio and subtitles how we want? So we have to choose a region and stick fornthe language of that region for everything, audio and texts and all?

WHY

Stupid Nintendo. Stupid!

Sirk7x3063d ago

I really, really hope they change this. I'm gonna play the hell out of the game anyways, but unless the voice talent is superb, dubbed audio bothers the ever living hell out of me.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (Switch 2)- The Best Way To Play, But Zelda Notes Sucks| NL

"

Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is undoubtedly the best way to play one of the greatest games of all time. The visual and performance enhancements remove any issues that you may have had to endure with the original game. It's practically flawless from that perspective.

Sadly, the Zelda Notes app really brings the whole thing down. Useful features that should have been implemented in-game have been relegated to your smartphone, and using it completely breaks immersion in this incredible world. I'm only thankful that it's not even remotely mandatory. Leave Zelda Notes to one side, and you've got the definitive presentation of a modern classic." - Ollie Reynolds | NintendoLife
