Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Petition Nears 50,000 Supporters

PC fans really want Red Dead Redemption to come to PC with the petition now reaching over 50,000 signatories.

I wouldn't bet on it - it's not as though the last 6 years of Red Dead petitions achieved anything, despite it being one of the most requested ports of it's generation... yes GTAV got a PC version, but that was only after it had become the highest-earning entertainment product of all time - something Red Dead 2 can only dream of.

RDR apparently had a difficult and lengthy development period and was originally a PS2/Xbox game, it probably would have been a big headache to port it.

I imagine it depends on how much of the game was built with the 360/PS3 in mind.

Regardless, plenty of other games from that era have been ported... that said, RDR online's netcode is still broken (some say beyond repair), which definitely reduces the appeal of a GTA-style remaster/PC port - not just for potential buyers, but for R* too.

The main reason that GTA games get ported to PC and Red Dead games do not is that the games are made by 2 different studios, the studio that handles GTA (R* North) are equipped to handle PC versions and the studio that handles Red Dead (R* San Diego) is not, they just aren't a PC development studio.

Well the reason they're hesitant on releasing it on PC is because of the amount of money they get from it. On console, it can stay at $60 for almost as long as they want it to. On PC, games are $35 in the first couple of weeks. They'd have to sell double the units on PC just to match what they made on console. And as time goes on, triple.

They don't get full price on console either at retail. With retail stores, MS/Sony, the publisher and cost of distribution all taking a cut of the $60 price. It doesn't leave much left.

On PC it's at least 90% digital so only Valve gets 30% if they put it on steam or they'll get 100% of the profits if Rockstar decide to self publish on their own store like they did with GTA5 on PC.

The price is lower than consoles as there is no royalties involved on PC like there is on consoles but they'll always be a bargain to be had on PC if you shop around and not buy at major digital stores like steam, before and after release. It's called capitalism. Sometimes it benefits the consumer :)

First of all, how is buying a graphics card any different than buying a console? I spent a similar amount of money to buy a graphics card to upgrade my PC this gen as I did on my PS4.

Second of all, signing petitions isn't unique to PC gamers. Console gamers sign just as many petitions. Most gamers, whether PC gamers or console gamers, don't bother signing petitions. But there's nothing wrong with signing petitions in the first place if a person thinks it will make a difference.

It's rational to want good games on your platform. The fact you are trying to shame people for that is ridiculous. I see console gamers doing the same thing all the time.

Here's one example from a page I actually just happened to be reading:

So quit trying to attack PC gamers under the false belief that signing petitions is somehow unique to or more prevalent among PC gamers. It's not.

There is nothing as accurate as Steam spy on console but according to VGChartz, I know it sucks but it is probably slightly better than pulling a number out of thin air then that is more than the game sold on Xbox One. This clearly demonstrates the idea that sales drop off the longer the wait has been and the greater the number of platforms it has previously been released on.

With that in mind, the PC sales are actually quite good. They are in the same ballpark as the PS4 and XB1 sales, and are apparently higher than the XB1 sales. This shows that the PC is a viable, healthy platform.

"What if, it's only on consoles?" - is a nightmare for PC Elitists, granted, I wanted RDR on PC too - but that wait ended up for nothing. A Remaster could be possible that hopefully would make it on current-gen and PC but nonetheless, these Petitions more or less only show how desperate people are wanting their voice to be heard, an inherent trait of herd-like mentalities joining together so they don't feel as powerless.

At the end of it though, Rockstar and TakeTwo know that the size of PC's demographic should be large and GTA should be a good comparison on what PC sales are to be expected, even if halved.
