One of the core features of online games is playing lots of mmo alts, but is having numerous mmorpg alts fun or exhausting?
Microsoft just posted the third quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $61.9 billion in revenue and a net income of $21.9 billion during Q3. Revenue is up 17 percent, and net income has increased by 20 percent.
Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.
Too expensive hardware when others offer the same or more for less? Good work, Green Team.
As of right now, there are no monopolies in the games industry, and for the sake of the medium as a whole, they never should either.
And yet the biggest tech companies in America are essentially that. They buy up all the small comps only to kill them off and steal what they have, and if they can't buy em they bleed them to death.
They buy IPs not talent. That's why these buyouts never work and the IPs die. Right now it's too expensive to develop games - but I expect that to shift maybe as AI tools can make it easier. The best games have been indie games for awhile as big developers fuck their ips to death with "games as a service" -

Both, simple as that. It's always nice to switch up to a fresh character after playing for numerous hours on another. Yet at the same time, you're still having to grind out all the same things you did with your first character. So, in that regard, things are going to be exhausting in trying to get them up to par with your other character(s).
Why would I want an alt? I could hardly handle one if I played MMOs.
Exhausting. Playing FF14 quickly made me realize how the current model of MMOs are not for me. I personally enjoy the story and I loved raiding. However, I hated grinding, especially if there was rng involved. It is one of the reasons why I hated crafting and why I did not do the relic quests after the initial one. Unfortunately, grinding is pretty much required for raiding. Although getting a relic weapon was not necessary needed, I know there are teams that would be harsh on you for not getting a weapon that would be beneficial in raid to get the clear as fast as possible. Furthermore, you needed to either make, or buy, potions and food. I hated that part the most. Having to grind for the materials or gil made me really hate the game. Grinding for dungeons for gil was ok during the earlier patches, but then the people in my FC began to focus more on crafting and I just couldn't do crafting. I really hated the rng involved with crafting and the constant watching of the market boards. Let's not even talk about flying saucer, I saw that as a huge time waster. As time went on I found myself in the minority and I just gave up on the game altogether. I would have stayed just for the story, but my true passion lay with raiding and there were no teams that would have wanted someone who did not want to buy (make or gather materials) food or potions. With all that being said, why would I ever create an alt?
