720p 30fps? With frame rate drops? Not good for an exclusive at all. Glad the AA solution hepls it a bit but still...
Maybe they didn't have enough time to work on the Xbox version when they decided to go PC too
.

FITgamer2973d ago

It's still 1080p, effects rendered at 720p. So it's like an internal upscale i guess.

Overload2973d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

"It's still 1080p, effects rendered at 720p. So it's like an internal upscale i guess."

Sponsored by the Aaron Greenberg school of resolution.

The native image seems to be 720p

FITgamer2972d ago

lol I'm not tying to defend it, i'm just going based off what they said in the video. Effects rendered in 720p, but native output is 1080p. It's all confusing to me.

Christopher2972d ago

***Effects rendered in 720p, but native output is 1080p***

Correction there, it's native 720p and is output as 1080p. This is similar to Killzone MP where it wasn't a native 1080p but a software emulated 1080p. So, it is not at all native, the native image is 720p.

The distinction is important when discussing these sort of things.

Overload2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

Christopher is correct, Dark10 who is part of Digital Foundry pretty much said the same thing.

http://m.neogaf.com/showpos...

The native image is 720p.

butchertroll2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

@Christopher

Well, Guerilla used very different technique to achive 1080p in Killzone MP. Nothing was upscaled and that's the whole point and technically MP is 1080p.

http://www.killzone.com/en_...

Christopher2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

***Well, Guerilla used very different technique to achive 1080p in Killzone MP. Nothing was upscaled and that's the whole point and technically MP is 1080p. ***

Yes, it is 1080p. But, the huge distinction is that it's not a native 1080p. That's the important distinction.

QB, if software upscaled (even partially in this case, which is the lighting elements), is also 1080p. Just not native.

That was the sole intent of my comment since people don't understand the difference between 'native 1080p' and just '1080p'. And that distinction is important since 'native 1080p' will more often than not result in higher quality and sharper textures with more detail as opposed to software emulated frames. Kind of like how QB has very soft tones in lighting and how KZ MP had blurring effects from frame to frame viewing.

Saying anything about the technical elements of a game does not diminish it as a game, only is an examination of the technical aspects of it. QB still looks good and more than likely will play just as well. The real question is the story and how well the gameplay advances/evolves based on the time stopping powers.

Kribwalker2972d ago

@butchertroll

According to your link

"In Multiplayer mode, however, we use a technique called “temporal reprojection,” which combines pixels and motion vectors from multiple lower-resolution frames to reconstruct a full 1080p image. If native means that every part of the pipeline is 1080p then this technique is not"

badz1492972d ago

@kribwalker

In KZSF MP, there are indeed 1080 progressive horizontal lines all the time thus the notion of 1080p but it's not native 1920X1080p because only 960 vertical lines are rendered in real-time for any given time while the other 960 are still frames from the previous frame. These "screenshot" frames are blended together with real-time frames and generated as current frames all the time. This technique works because player movement are usually slower than the 0.017s time frame between each frame in a 60fps games but blur tend to occur when players moves or spin too quickly due to these blended "screenshot" frames.

It's a trade-off to achieve 60fps, which the game excels at, but it's a technique more taxing than mere upscaling like in Halo 5 but not as intensive as rendering true 1080p 60fps, which is almost impossible on the PS4 with their chosen graphical settings.

Uncharted 4 is the same case but ND chose to render at a 900p and upscale instead.

Back on topic, I don't know where you guys are getting the native res for QB as 1080p because earlier in the video, it says something like "native res is hard to pin down" which means, it's probably not 1080p and most probably dynamic.

butchertroll2972d ago

@Kribwalker

Did you read what i wrote : i said "technically" MP is 1080p. Image is not upscaled. That's the point.

Yeah but those physics, they remind me of that game stranglehold.

I'll be playing it on PC but the xbox one version looks like one of the best games this gen if you disregard the resolution

Also an occasional frame drop to 28 fps isn't going to ruin my experience. The only time I've had a problem with frame rate drops ruining my experience was playing dark souls 1 on PC before the 3rd party patch.

headblackman2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

@mcgrottys

spoken like a true gamer. keep making sense sir :-)

Christopher2972d ago

Never let a technical analysis ruin the fun of a game. It's just a technical analysis, not a metric to determine the quality of a game let alone whether or not you would like it.

Hope you enjoy the game, mcgrottys.

Looks like it's NX Gamer Vs Digital Foundry. NX says 1080p, DF says 720p

http://nxgamer.com/previews...

dantesparda2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

I guess you didn't watch the video then, what DF says is that while the games native res is 1080p, a lot of its effects like lighting are 720p, giving the game a very soft and 720p like look ultimately, and NX Gamer kind of hints at the same, but like The Infected said, "Global illumination and lighting rendered at 720p, extremely low resolution shadows which also jitter, a lot of shadow pop in, volumetric lighting is rendered at very low resolution, and reflections are a combinations of real time and screen space variance but both are rendered in very low resolution.

Aliasing is good, character models are extremely well done, has a stable frame rate until venturing outside in which the frame rate drops and has some screen tearing. They're using adaptive v-sych."

I personally think the game looks too soft and has too much tearing in those outdoor scenes. Which is a shame, because the game looked a hell of a lot better when first being introduced, now its just looks like a low res, tearing mess to me.

yewles12972d ago

You weren't paying attention...

"Curiously, the paper also states Xbox One's final output is 1920x1080, and that's where there is some confusion - as we've yet to see evidence of full HD 1080p gameplay in close analysis - barring the title's HUD elements and menus. In every scene tested so far, a native resolution of 720p is the consistent result found in each pixel count test - so while there's every possibility of individual render targets operating at higher resolutions, basic geometry that we're able to measure hands in a 720p result as things stand."

kstuffs2972d ago

I read the EG article and still got confused as to the final resolution of the game. As many people here still think it's 720p when the game is actually outputting 1080p native. This was very clear in the NX article. The effects are 720p because the lighting, visual effects, and destruction in this game is very, very good compared to what I heave seen with existing games.

yewles12972d ago

Except 720p lighting doesn't trick people into thinking the geometry is 720p as well...

butchertroll2972d ago

Dark10x is DF member. He clearly stated that game final render output is 720p :

NX Gamer didn't get any builds for analysis. HE CLEARLY STATED that in video. His analysis is based on some preview videos from month ago and Quantum Break documents which were shown at Siggraph last year.

Anyway, looks like final render output is 720p :

StifflerK2972d ago

Alan Wake was sub HD , and it was one of my favorite games of last gen.

Heck, The Order and Ryse are sub 1080, but look amazing.

Resolution determines the sharpness of the image, not how good the game is.

Wallstreet372972d ago

I agree im hope gameplay and funfactor is solid.

thekhurg2972d ago

Correction:

The Order is pixel accurate to 1080p. There is zero upscaling in that game.

Letthewookiewin2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

And The Order is a solid 30fps and never any tearing. No other console game holds a candle to it graphically. Only morons would disagree :)

n4rc2972d ago

Yeah.. So we'll just start letterboxing games to hit 1080p..

You are correct.. But its a trick to avoid a sub-1080 debate.. I don't buy for a single second they choose to do that willingly.

starchild2972d ago

Yes, same pixel density as 1080p (within the letterbox area), but it is rendering a lot less pixels than games that output at native 1920 x 1080 resolution. This reduces rendering demands on the hardware.

DopeTech2972d ago

Yeah but It's running less pixels than a NATIVE 1080p OUTPUT.

They just ran it at 1920x800 then litterboxed the screen to make it look like a NATIVE 1080p screen.

Ryse was only 720p but he graphics were very impressive. The game itself wasn't though.

MattE2972d ago

900p mate.. Ryse wasn't 720p.. This is the issue with this gen. People are misinformed

15 Xbox Games That Should Make the Multiplatform Jump

Single A games and live service games. Those make sense

S2Killinit54d ago

None of it makes sense. But its happening.

Ps5conehead53d ago

That’s up to Microsoft they want return on there investment. From buying up those publishers. That’s what there in business for. And they made a mistake putting day one exclusive on game pass. So now Microsoft wants to profit any way they can.its called buisness . Just like Sony putting games on pc a year are two after ps5 launch.
So if they can make money off PlayStation and Nintendo. They will do that. And I bet soon real soon they will release some aaa exclusives .and I bet one day it will be same day release

TheEroica53d ago

Sony gamers begging for Xbox games.... Who would've thunk it?

BISHOP-BRASIL53d ago

Yeah, because random site off the internet represents all Sony gamers, they have the letter of attorney and all...

S2Killinit53d ago

Lol what a spin. You dizzy?

AsunaYuukiTheFlash53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

We don’t care about shovelwares. Get that junk out of PS5

Friendlygamer54d ago

Some of these seem to be exclusive for lack of enthusiasm of the publisher rather than because of deals. A lot of cool indies skip ps for some reason like katana zero, el paso, elsewhere and gunbrela

S2Killinit54d ago

Even more indies skip xbox. We know that right?

Friendlygamer54d ago

Quality over quantity, Microsoft got some really interesting and curated niche games on their machines, maybe in part because of gamepass

S2Killinit53d ago

Quality and MS are not things you bring up in same sentence.

shinoff218353d ago (Edited 53d ago )

Alot of indies skip xbox to. It goes round and round. Personally I think your off base on that but no need to have the argument.

Friendlygamer53d ago

Between katana zero, valheim, Battletech, el passo... I don't feel off base. maybe ps got a million of light novel games that will never release on Xbox but like I've said, I'm talking about niche games highlights, the 10%.

Heck, it's probably thanks to Microsoft that the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games came to console ps included, meanwhile Sony backwards compatibility continues to be extremely anemic.

And I'm sure most ps5 users are happy to ignore these games and just play wathever new 3rd person action game is trending but it's cool that Microsoft gives some love to smaller audiences and software preservation

shinoff218353d ago

Again your off base just to be snide. All it's showing though is your ignorance.

One light novels wtf is that even. Ps has plenty of pretty damn good indies.

Speaking of indies and ms being responsible. You know F.I.S.T. of course you do alot of you guys just support gamepass. Well here's a history of Sony being responsible for helping indies. Look up the China project from Sony.

Lastly lol your ignorance showing again. Sony has plenty of games. Personally third person is better then first anyway but that's besides the point. Sony gets so many games that xbox doesn't get because yall don't support the games. Jrpgs being a great example. I personally am not into every Sony first party game. Alot of us aren't. On the other side you don't get to eat often so you gobble up everything. Me personally God of War not my cup, etc. For me I'm into jrpgs and ms just can't touch Sony on those. Again because the Xbox base doesn't support it. Devs dont wanna waste their time or money. Hit me up when falcom develops a game over there.

Speaking of third person narrative games. Aren't yall drooling over hellblade 2. The first one was Sony exclusive at one point. Another not my cup game. Showing we don't have to fall in line and agree we love everything Sony puts out. The facts are they sell though unlike elsewhere(not nintendo)

StormSnooper53d ago

You are same person as GamerRN, yes?

Abnor_Mal53d ago

They really think PlayStation fans would want to play Redfall? Pfft.

Personally nothing on that list would be any game I’d want to play.

TwoPicklesGood53d ago

I’d absolutely love Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Quantum Break on ps5 as I’m sure tons of others would too. There’s nothing wrong with wanting games from another console and its sad that people try to act like they aren’t interested in them.

shinoff218353d ago

While indont agree with the games. I agree with the point. Your not wrong.

DarXyde53d ago

Sunset Overdrive makes very good sense. Palworld might.

Don't know about the others. Hellblade II does make sense given the original launched on PS4 first. Quantum Break was a massive letdown for me. I absolutely hated the whole TV show thing and I don't think anyone should have to relive that on modern hardware.

Now that Remedy owns Control, it’s time to reclaim Quantum Break

Alan Wake 2 studio Remedy Entertainment has reclaimed the rights to Control, and now sci-fi hit Quantum Break deserves the same treatment.

Totally agree with that especially when Quantum Break has several references to Alan Wake and Alan Wake make allusions to QB.
I do believe that MS and Remedy can work things out and MS has usually been nice to devs and publishers regarding IP.

Obscure_Observer69d ago

They can't "reclaim" what was never theirs.

Petebloodyonion69d ago

I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP.

Lightning7769d ago

MS is not doin anything with it. Plus they're doing a multiverse of their own so Remedy needs the IP.

If MS wants to have exclusive let it be timed for 6 months then go to other platforms. MS seems to be, let's say, generous with some if their games as of late.

Or have QB2 be multiplat from the jump, put it on GP. Keeping QB2 as an exclusive is kinda weird these days.

Obscure_Observer69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

@Petebloodyonion

"I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP."

Good luck

@Lightning77

"MS is not doin anything with it."

Japan Studio is dead nd Sony isn´t doing anything with Bloodborne either! Yet I can 100% guarantee that there´s a far bigger demand for a sequel, remake or even a remaster for that game from both PS5 and PC gamers.

That been said, why don´t you ask Sony tol sell the IP to Fromsoftware now that according to rumors, they bought Elden Ring from Bandai?

ZwVw69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Reclaim? That would mean that they actually owned the ip at one point, which they never did (MS always has). Apples & oranges. Remedy always owned the Control ip (just not the publishing), as they have with Alan Wake.

About as likely as them getting the Max Payne rights from Rockstar.

mastershredder69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Sending you game to a publisher does not mean they get "rights to own it " unless that was part of the contract (monetary/ strategic reasons). 505 was the publisher they worked with to publish and distribute it, it dos not mean that 505 flat out "owned" anything, clearly they did have a special arrangement that made them open to limit their publishing rights. and so here we are and big whoop

Jingsing69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Yeah get Quantum Break PS5, only if you put it on disc with all the associated movie material.

isarai69d ago

I mean they got the Alan Wake IP back from MS, so I feel like they could get QB back as well

Thumper
Inscryption
Q.U.B.E. 2

I think Inscryption is the best game on that list. PT and Returnal i would offer. Returnal deserves a spot over some of the listed games. Especially after chapter 3. Maybe even Alice MR? Death Stranding? Kojima all together. To much smaller degree Dead Space. I'm spitballing.

I didn't play Thumper enough to see beyond the visual spectacle. Curious choice.

SullysCigar366d ago (Edited 366d ago )

I'd add FEAR and RE7 (when Ethan starts getting visions, especially in the boat) to that list.
