If NX Releases in 2016, Nintendo Needs to Start Talking About It Now

Nintendo hasn't made if clear if 2016 will include the release of its next gaming device, codenamed NX.

I still think they are holding all their cards until E3 this year. Unless they surprise us with a GDC announcement or something..

never4get3019d ago

Advertising is quite expensive, Controversy is cheap and spread like wildfire. Imagine NX's "Supplemental Computing Device" is just a PC graphics card in setup like MSI Dock, Razer Core, Asus XG2, so many people would burst out microstuttering!, fps!, it won't work!, NX's won't be more powerful than PS4.

Nintendo launching a new platform in a year where PS4 and XO will have their strongest software ever will make it very difficult for NX to catch on for the masses

No matter what its launch games are, the NX will still have to go through the obligatory launch issues that every platform goes through when it releases.

He makes a point about the Wii U section in stores being a little depressing and how you see it full mostly of Amiibos then games.

God I hope they drop the Amiibo thing for the NX. I do not want them to exploit it so you have to buy crappy plastic toys to unlock sections of games.

Neonridr3019d ago

You don't have to buy anything. It is a reward for those people who wish to spend the money.

It's not like the game can't progress unless you have an Amiibo.

Last I checked you can play Smash Brothers perfectly fine without the use of Amiibos. I should know, I own the game.

-Foxtrot3019d ago

My point is it could get worse. Twilight Princess HD is already going down that path, not that bad but it's still a step down it

pompombrum3019d ago

It gives off a bad impression though. It's the same in GAME stores here in the UK, looking at the Nintendo section feels like you're in a toy store. Even my mum was surprised when she found out I bought a Wii U and I quote "aren't you a bit old for that?"

Neonridr3019d ago

@Fox - well in all fairness you are getting new content with the wolf amiibo. You get a dungeon that was never in the original. So it is more or less a reward for you spending more than just the price of the base game. Don't see how that is different than if I buy a "gold" edition of a game that comes with some extra content in game.

If you just buy Twilight Princess HD without the wolf amiibo you still get exactly the same Gamecube/Wii game. Nothing has been cut.

@Mokuroku - so I guess if you preorder games you shouldn't be given anything extra? Or if you pay for a deluxe edition you shouldn't get additional content included for free? Pretty sure things like that are rampant in the industry so people pointing fingers at Nintendo is quite laughable.

Yea, most of the Amiibo functions I have seen has been cosmetic.

Not sure what game you are referring too that needs to sections be unlocked with an Amiibo.

-Foxtrot3019d ago

Upcoming Twilight Princess HD

Wolf Link unlocks a brand new dungeon while Ganondorf doubles enemies damage and makes the game harder basically hero mode found in Wind Waker HD. So now you have to buy an Amiibo to unlock a game mode

The others refill hearts and arrows which sound a little like long term micro transactions

My point is if it's not stamped out now God knows how bad it could potentially get

jcnba283019d ago

The "crappy plastic toy" (that millions of people love and collect) does not unlock a section of Twilight Princess.

This is an additional dungeon that was not included in the original game.

You can buy the game without the amiibo included. Stop crying over nothing.

-Foxtrot3019d ago

It's still an extra but if content you can't play unless you've bought an Amiibk. What's not to get here

mamotte3019d ago

"...so you have to buy crappy plastic toys to unlock sections of games."

Every company do the same. Except the plastic toy you have is a Credit card, not an Amiibo.

gangsta_red3019d ago

Interesting, did not know this. But ultimately for anyone who does collect or want Amiibos I personally would want them to do more than just costume changes.

They should build some hype in February like Sony did with PS4 then have the big reveal at E3.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3019d ago

Nintendo is Nintendo.
Not Sony/

gangsta_red3019d ago

They don't need to talk about it. They have us and the media buzzing and building the hype already.
