Splatoon Will Get More DLC After August, Has "No Plans" for Paid DLC

In a recent interview, Splatoon co-director Tsubasa Sakaguchi revealed that Splatoon will be receiving downloadable maps and weapons even after the August update. Previously, Nintendo only confirmed support for the title through the Summer, but it seems like the title will be supported for longer than Nintendo originally revealed. In addition, Sakaguchi said that there were currently no plans for paid DLC content for the game.

Damn, it makes you wonder just how much bigger this game is gonna get...

With this specific game I don't mind them releasing how they do.

With other games it probably would bother me more, but for the core audience this game brings in, it's better off they bring them all along slowly.

* It won't be like that for Splatoon 2, because by then, all the Nintendo fans would have gotten accustomed to the mechanics of the FPS genre, and thus would be used to it and not needed to be guided along.

They are basically trying to make it easier for any Nintendo fan to jump into an FPS game.

What this does is this:

* Gives 100% PROOF that FPS games can be successful on a Nintendo Console, and lets 3rd Party dev's know it's safe to make them for the NX/next Nintendo console.

* They are taking a Weakness, and increasing it and making it a strength.

I respect that. IT's a long term investment for a genre to be appealing to it's audience and not just specifically about this one game called Splatoon.

Or at least IMO...in theory.

It's about time for me to buy this game now. I'm glad I waited for my more DLC to fill this incomplete game into a complete one. Hopefully I'll get this game sometime in the next two months. No promises! But it's definitely on my radar now. I'm very interested in purchasing this game now.

Fantastic game. But it's "DLC" so far has pretty much been on disc. For me personally ... I would have just rather have everything unlocked at the start.

Or unlocked by your level but extend the max level from 20 to maybe 50 or so.

The on disk or off disk never mattered to me. The adaptive game play is pretty addictive though. Also I'm sure making a new gun isn't that big of a download. Also I'm wondering if the contents are on disk how many maps a weapons do we have right now, on disk since you seem to know.

What I meant is that the game was launched with a "perceived" lack of content for many gamers and reviewers.

I personally would have preferred to have all the weapons and maps available for me to unlock instead of having to wait weeks or months to get something I already paid for and IS actually available on my disc.

As for what is on the disc ... http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

This was from June 23rd .... data miners found the maps, modes, weapons and more that we have been getting the last month and change to be on the disc before Nintendo ever announced any of them.

You actually unlock stuff as you play. We just out paced their roll out. The point of this is to have people progress thur the different play styles. The game is so balanced that people are now using old weapon types to fight the higher skilled players.

I haven't bought this game yet, maybe I must pick it up soon!

You should definitely buy Splatoon. One of my favorite Wii U games. Very original and the short campaign is also fun.

Why Is Splatoon So Popular In Japan?

How, exactly, did Splatoon reach heights rivalled only by Pokémon in Japan? New IPs from the House of Mario appear as often as shiny Pocket Monsters, yet typically move comparatively mediocre numbers or fall into relative obscurity behind the premium marques of Mario, Animal Crossing, Zelda, and Pokémon. Take Pikmin and ARMS, for example, which we adore but struggle to compete with the tentpole franchises when it comes to sales numbers or mainstream mindshare.

So, again, how has Splatoon risen to become one of Nintendo's most important series in Japan?
