kojima is metal gear, RIP metal gear solid

gameseveryday3344d ago

I strongly believe he is not going anywhere. However, lets wait and see.

Hey, your ads suck and are obtrusive. Get better ads.

@Dudebro90 Get adblock or noscript, it'll save you tons of headaches.

Even if he stays it's the worst move Konami could make to rebrand their most well known studio into a generic "Konami Studio [location name]" and remove "A Hideo Kojima game" from the branding. The only times Konami posts actual profits are years when a MGS comes out and that's the thanks they get?

It's like rebranding Pixar into Disney Emeryville and have all the marketing just say "A Disney movie".

It's hugely disrespectful towards the developers and would also indicate to me that Konami wants to distance the MGS franchise from Kojima. To make future games without him and anybody who starts with MGS5 as their first game wouldn't know any better when future games are made from some random studios.

Dir_en_grey3343d ago

@Rashid Sayed "Konami Digital Entertainment (including Mr. Kojima), will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements."

Your title"Metal Gear Solid 5 Will Be The Last Game By Kojima Productions" is based on NOTHING but one random tweet by a Japanese trash blogger that only guessed based on the logo removal. One random tweet does not warrant a rumor especially when Konami already said straight out this is not true.

Your sensationalized style of making up stuff is unethical and basically cancer to gaming journalism.

Yahdaree3343d ago

I think its an April Fools stunt.

user55757083343d ago

if he's done with metal gear then so am I.

#konamiproblems

XBLSkull3343d ago

More likely it'll be a good thing. Bungie left Halo to go make crappy games and 343 stepped in and redeemed Halo after crap game Reach.

Hopefully Kojima leaves, goes onto making crap games, someone steps in and makes Metal Gear Solid have a coherent story and all is well in the world again lol...

Honestly you can't blame people who want to move onto other things and not get stuck making the sequels to their games for all eternity.

FriedGoat3343d ago

XBLskull, you should take this act to the stage, absolutely hilarious.

Don't we hear this often before a huge release like, it's his last game ever, better get it while you can.

ZombieKiller3343d ago

Hopefully because he is starting his own studio on his own. I think that Konami is applying too much pressure on him honestly. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the ones behind the pricing of GZ and maybe he didn't like that? Kojima is about his fans first

IF he is going anywhere...Konami would be stupid to let that type of talent go.
All in all, stay or go think about what this means for the story....

I bet we will see a remake of MG 1 and MG 2 in this games story, and towards the end we would possibly get to play as Solid Snake (considering how bad he wants a remake of MGS1, this being his last game, AND David Hayters "demise") Kojima can hide things very well, but it was easier when those internets didn't exist as much.

guiltl3ss3343d ago

Kojima has stated that this is the Metal Gear he has always wanted to make...could we be playing the establishment of Outer Heaven followed by playing as Solid Snake in his first, major infiltration mission (The first Metal Gear)? Hmm..

spacewarrior13343d ago

how do you fire a guy like Kojima ? his like a legend in the games industry. this is the equivalent to Take Two firing the Houser brothers.

Blasphemy3343d ago

He has been saying this every since metal gear solid 2.Not saying that it is not true but funny how these rumors always pop up when he is about to release a new game.

Xman2K3343d ago

Weird thing is Kojima productions was founded on April 1st 2005...

SaveFerris3344d ago

No more KojiPro might just mean no more Metal Gear? He is a big part of Konami's success and it seems strange to do away with his name unless he is planning to step away from Metal Gear and concentrate on other projects like Silent Hills. Otherwise, if he is retiring or setting up his own studio, then I thought he would be upfront about it.

elninels3344d ago

Kojima, up front with info? Nooooo.
He's master super troll ultimate #1.
He's much more likely to start 18 different shell studios and one real one. Each one releases a trailer for a game. And then he gets on stage at some big event to say that all these studios are faake and that all the trailers actually make up a single trailer for one game.

-Foxtrot3344d ago

See the thing is if he leaves Konami will continue the franchise without him and it's worrying because I wouldn't want them to add more games into his universe when really Kojima has told everything he needs to tell. The story was wrapped up in MGS4 and MGSV seems to just be expanding Big Bosses story.

This is why Kojima should of made a reboot-remake instead of MGSV. Remake MGS, add new plot points, new rooms, expand the game but change things here and there so MGS2 will be different. MGS2 comes around and we could have Snake for the full game instead of Raiden, Solidus gets away in the end Ocelot is killed. That would totally change the story we had in Guns of the Patriots because Solidus Snakes plan was completely different to Ocelots.

After that Kojima could leave or create a new game because whatever they do to his new timeline he'll have the comfort of knowing that HIS timeline, the games he's spent so much of his life on, will be preserved and hopefully be left alone as they exploit the rebooted timeline.

gangsta_red3344d ago (Edited 3344d ago )

If Kojima is leaving then it makes more sense why he would make MGSV. It may be the ending and the closing he needs to his story that he started years ago. After that he can wash his hands of the project and let whoever else handles it next do what they please.

It's like a movie director who tells his story through a trilogy or two part sequel and then their done. Let the movie studio do whatever they please with the property.

I wouldn't want to create a whole universe and story and not have it properly end by me.

Edit:

"Why would you want to finish off a well made"

Closure...why leave your universe wide open just so the next guy can come in and screw everything up or take it in a completely different direction than you intended. I think their could be more closure added even after the end of MGS4.

Kojima can rest knowing that HIS story is finished and that fans of his series can close the book and say damn that was a great story.

Finish your story, then let someone else come in and make up their own tale and apply their vision to a brand new storyline. Having Kojima set up a world for another person to take over only puts limits and rules on that other person's vision of that game. Not only that but having that new game made by Kojima only for it's sequel to be made by another person who may not have that Kojima sense of style and story telling may just turn people off.

It's like seeing a great movie directed by Darren Aronofsky or David Fincher and then having it's sequel being directed by Brett Ratner or Roland Emmerich.

-Foxtrot3344d ago

Why would you want to finish off a well made, crafted universe with all these games only to let the next guy p*** all over that by forcing in another story which dosen't need to be told.

Best thing to do would of prepared for the end and try to steer them on another path, a one where they won't exploit your work after your gone.

rdgneoz33344d ago

@Foxtrot So guessing you never heard of MG Rising?

LightDiego3344d ago

I would like a game with Gray Fox too, just like Revengeance.

Joe9133344d ago (Edited 3344d ago )

Good idea Foxtrot but I honestly think if he stays but still done with MGS they will continue without him and if he left they will do the same. Even if they are Restructuring why break up the best team you have or take their name off their latest work like a lot of people say it is weird to do that seems more than just Restructuring.

Chard3344d ago (Edited 3344d ago )

There's nothing to worry about here.
Kojima's games can be treated in a self contained storyline. If some new director wants to introduce Liquid Snake 2.0 made from from nanomachines and Otacon's arse, then so be it. Worse things have happened in gaming.
Alternatively, there's still scope for a MGS1 remake, or even a MG remake, or some game focused on The Boss etc.

And get over your hate for MGS2 and Raiden. The game was amazing.

Snake! What's wrong! Snaaaaaaaake!

ZombieGamerMan3344d ago

1. It's a rumor people. 2. Why would Kojima ever leave when he's Konami's golden boy. 3.Most likely what is going could be Kojima renaming his studio . 4. Rumor

OrangePowerz3344d ago (Edited 3344d ago )

Why would Konami remove Kojima Productions and "A Hideo Kojima game" from their marketing?

Why wouldn't he leave? He would have no problem finding a new job. He is Konamis golden boy, but there wouldn't be a reason why he couldn't leave especially if Konami wants him to continue to make MGS games if he doesn't want to. Mikami was Capcoms golden boy, didn't stop him from leaving.

ZombieGamerMan3343d ago

Well it could very well be an april fools joke since where close to it or and this is the more likely of things they are rebranding his studio. Right now Kojima Productions is the only thing Konami has that makes them money so they are more than likely pulling a Rockstar Games move where they just rebrand them to be better associated with the company.

Also the argument of why wouldn't he leave is baseless because there is no reason to leave, he is a VP in the company's games division and has the creative freedom to do what he wants with his games. Hell you really think Konami is always on his ass to make a new MGS game? No, they might be on his ass to have more games in the series cause it's their only profitable franchise right now but Kojima can and has allowed others to make a MGS game without him being heavily involved.

Like I said the more than likely scenario here is that they are going some rebranding or it could be something Kojima has hatched up since Kojima Productions is close to it's 10 year anniversary. Plus Konami already said he isn't leaving and it's the kind of stuff you can't lie about since TPP is months away. look at SE they announced the director for FF XV had left the game because they couldn't keep telling people he was otherwise.

OrangePowerz3343d ago

He has freedom to make MGS games that's about most of the freedom Kojima has from Konami and who knows what happens now with Silent Hill.

He can easily open his own studio or go work for anofher company and get the funding he needs to really make the game he wants instead of having to make one MGS after another.

Konami said Kojima will be there throughout MGS5 development and never that he will be there afterwards.

There would be no gain from rebranding the studio everybody knows it as Kojima Productions and there is no reason to remove the developer and Kojima himself from the marketing.

Now we'll have to see how much the Master Collection will add to those numbers.

Number1TailzFan193d ago

Too bad it was a lazy release. They could've updated the visuals and everything. Missed opportunity.

Stanjara193d ago

...and yet, they couldn't give more respect and effort into the collection.
What a terrible company.

Minute Man 721193d ago (Edited 193d ago )

Are they counting every game?

Edit: they did

Yes, these are total lifetime sales of the entire series.

Yea I don’t get why they’re allowing old reviews to be posted here. Someone did one on Soul Reaver and I got so excited thinking there was some stealth release of an HD Remaster, but no… it’s just someone who had a slow day posted an old review…

Cacabunga209d ago

I liked the game but for me it felt somehow like a military simulator rather than a proper MGS.. i got bored of that

micdagoat19209d ago

I do wish they would remaster all the soul reavers

micdagoat19209d ago

it was done this morning though

goldwyncq209d ago

The author was in a coma for 9 years and didn't get to play the game when it released.

Chocoburger209d ago

This review arrived just in time for launch. Perfect timing!

RupeeHoarder209d ago

Amazing how bad this game looks already. We keep acting like this gen doesn't feel like an update but I think we're starting to see it.

YourMommySpoils209d ago

Looks better than Starfield, Cyberpunk and most recent games out. Still fine.

RupeeHoarder209d ago

It most certainly does not lol.

andy85209d ago

Have you player Cyberpunk since the first day? It's absolutely stunning now

1nsomniac209d ago

One of the worst games ever made. Absolute overhyped trash!

Snowb420209d ago

The gameplay was great. It was the tacked on open world and repetitive missions that messed the game up.

Shane Kim209d ago

The game started really strong in that hospital, but after a couple of hours I wondered if it was even an mgs game I was playing.

KyRo208d ago

The hospital section was the only bit that felt like a MGS game.

MGS4 was the ending for me. I totally ignore the fact 5 exists. It didn't need to exist tbh
