The Great Pre-Order Debate: Why You Should Never, Ever Pre-Order

Skip the grinding! Get this completely useless DLC! Get an action figure! What about this fanny pack!? Are any of these so called ‘perks’ really worth giving publishers and developers an interest free loan? Should they make their money before we even have a quality product in our hands?

Also, I pre-order through Amazon. I don't pay anything until it ships and I get it delivered on release day. If I change my mind at the last minute, I can cancel it. Once in a while, you have to pre-order on limited number collector's editions.

Nothing to lose, I only benefit.

Agreed, only one I hated todate was the new Farcry I did digital preorder before I knew that the map editor was useless and the coop was majorly gimped. Yet I will still preorder, but from now on I will not preorder a game that's having info with held. Once I know what I need to know about a game I will go ahead and preorder. If there is still things they holding back and not saying. Well I will not preorder or buy until I know.

agreed - I don't preorder for any extras - I do so for games that I want on launch day. if I hadn't preordered dying light at my local gamestop - I wouldn't have gotten it - they had already sold every copy they were getting for ps4 on launch day.

I could not care less about pre-order bonuses. I absolutely hate them.

I also pre-order when games get a discount, like Kingdom Hearts III for only $42.99 on Amazon last week. That's a savings of $23 for me.

Haha yeah, people preorder like clueless sheep and surprise surprise, when the game doesn't work or isn't anything like what was advertised, they start complaining. Then they go preorder the next game like idiots.

I haven't bought a game at launch for a long time now, and I never will again. There's literally no negatives to waiting a week or two after the release of a game to see how reviews/tech analysis/online holds up, and you often save money in the process :D

I've lost count of the amount of games I was excited for and looked promising but ended up being utter garbage when they released, making me glad that I didn't get sucked into the hype. I just feel sorry for all the chumps that still drop down cash on something that could end up being terrible. Just goes to show the power of advertising!

I preorder to get the stupid extras. I rarely buy day one games, though. Can't beat Amazon preorder since they don't charge until it is shipped, I have two copies of KH 3 preordered for $40.

I preorder for collector's edition. They might be worth something in the future. For example the Uncharted 2 EU Collector's Edition is now worth over $5K

people need to stop using pre-ordering as the reason why games sometimes aren't in the best states when they're released.

that blame falls entirely on the shoulders of the publishers, who push devs to churn out their games without giving it the care, and attention it deserves, and post-release patches. publishers should just allow devs to take their time to iron out the major problems in their game. that way, there'd be very little complaining about games being broken at launch.

I only preorder if it's a discount if you buy it early, or if I know it's a game I want (like a yearly sports game or gta) and that's just because if you have a game paid off at gamestop before it is released then there is no tax (another 3 dollars off lol)
