PS3 > PS4 in 2014 – PlayStation JapanStyle

"This year, odd as it might sound, my PS3 has been getting way more attention than my PS4. I was ready to dive into the new generation. I was prepared for the slow start that accompanies most new generations, but given how much time developers and hardware makers had to prepare for this generation, and the Vita coming out of the gate freaking flying on its launch day, I suppose I expected things to pick up more quickly than they did." -Heath of PSLS talks about 2014 on various game systems, as well as Pokemon possibly meeting its match with new competition.

PS3 still has strong software offerings but I don't think it'll last through much of 2015.

Probably true.
But anyone coming into the game late has a lot to love. What a great library.

"I don't think it'll last through much of 2015"

I think it still last through 2015. PS3 still have Tales of Zestiria, Persona 5, Yakuza 5, Yakuza 0, MGS Phantom Pain, Dragon Quest Heroes, One Piece Warrior 3, new Jojo's Bizzare, RE Revelations 2, and more.

But i don't know about X360. Aside of multiplat like Phantom Pain, Revelations 2, RE HD, or maybe sport games, i don't see anything worth mentioning / buying.

Oaklnd3403d ago

Until they absolutely force my hand to switch, Ill still bounce back and forth on systems, especially for prices.

SoapShoes3403d ago

I'll never sell my PS3 but it didn't have a better year for me. Most of its games were also on PS4 that I wanted and the only must have announced so far is Tales of Zesteria.

Inception3403d ago

Yakuza 5 still only for PS3. But i guess you're not a fans of Yakuza series are you?

GokuSolosAll3403d ago

Yokai Watch? The name sucks. If it's fun and comes to Vita, I'll jump onboard, but otherwise it's Pokemon on Nintendo for me. I'm looking forward to Collect'ems for Vita, too.

Pokemon has never been as good as Gen I & II. Unless they can recapture that qualuty, one day they will fall to competition or lack of interest. Still going strong, though, but it has grown less of an "everyone" game to a kid game. Plus it's starting to push diversity which I always hate to see in games. It's an unnecessary aspect, a politically correct agenda forced on us and our kids, subtly.

SoulMikeY3403d ago

Lol, wow. The only thing on PS3 this year was KH 2.5. Ps4 had a ton.

Inception3403d ago

You forgot Drakengard 3, FF X/X-2 HD, Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, Yakuza Ishin, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, Guilty Gear Xrd, and i could go on and on and on for that long list of PS3 games in 2014.

Why not bring most of their games on PS4 too?

BrandanT2733d ago

Competition drives the business more than whomever may be the current top seller.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2733d ago

Because one thing is. Audience.

kowan2732d ago

They're already making a big Ps4 JRPG though. Also most of Level 5's games are exclusive to Nintendo devices so it's only natural they continue with the Switch.

wonderfulmonkeyman2731d ago (Edited 2731d ago )

Because Sony already has more than enough third parties.
Switch is in much greater need of good exclusives from third parties than ps4 is.

Yokai Watch for Switch hopefully

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2732d ago

http://www.ign.com/articles...

It's possible. If they do bring to the Switch it will be Yo-Kai Watch 4 of course.

ThatGuyDart2732d ago

All I want is Ni No Kuni 2 with the original packed in as a pre-order bonus. Ni No Kuni was the best JRPG last generation

Omnislashver362732d ago

I'd argue Lost Odyssey, but I haven't played Ni No Kuni yet. I'd definitely try it on Switch though!

Segata2731d ago

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory

Also Dragon's Crown
Muramasa
Earth Seeker
The Last Story
Valkyrie Chronicles
Kingdoms of Amalur
Dragon Age Origins
Nier
Fragile Dreams

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2731d ago (Edited 2723d ago )

one the best.
Ni No Kuni have to battle
Xenoblade Chronicles
Blue Dragon
Tales of Verpseria
Lost Odyssey
for that spot.

Having to played all five and beaten all but Lost Odyssey(I still can if wanted to) Xenoblade Chronicles is the best.

Rangerman12082723d ago (Edited 2723d ago )

I'm guessing you only have an Xbox 360 and a Wii because you missed some other great JRPGS on the Playstation like Persona, Tales of Symphonia HD, Trails of Cold Steel, Disgaea, Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's Souls, etc. Hell, even Yakuza because of its RPG elements.

Segata2731d ago

Ni No Kuni battle system needed work. It's the wrong kind of battle system for a grind heavy game. I have the Wizards Edition btw so not blindly hating it. Battle system been fine if the game had occasional battles and not a grind heavy game. I like grinding I do it in DQ games. Ni no Kuni was off balance in that regard so never finished it.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2731d ago

That was my one of my only complaints about Ni No Kuni as well as the annoying Drippy.

wonderfulmonkeyman2731d ago

I'd argue that Bravely Default is a good contender for best jrpg.
