How critical is it to have played the original Gate of Memories game in order to follow this story? Is this title even worth picking up without having played the other?
Anthony here. Not critical to play the original. This is a stand alone title. It is however a game that benefits from knowing the first title, but it is in no way a sequel and not reliant on it. I think there's a fairly inexpensive download pack of both games that I would recommend but if you just want to dip your toes into the world of Anima then honestly just pick one of the two titles and go at it. If you enjoy it then play the other.
It looks like all three next-gen consoles could handle the kind of graphical style it's using without too many issues, so I hope it eventually does come to all three.
