Uncharted 4 Announcement is Concerning

In recent news it had been announced that Uncharted 4 will be shown at E3 2014. With that being said, Uncharted 4 is unnecessary for the success of the PS4 and could actually potentially be harmful to the gaming industry and our future.

You could say kinda the same thing with new IPs, "The Order looks great but it may put off some gamers because it's a new game/experience"

This is silly, established franchises are made because gamers have an appetite for either following the story arc and or experiencing the continuation of great gameplay that franchise provides. They aren't holding dev's back from creating new IP's, generally dev's become attached to a well made-well received game and thus they have a vision of how the game should evolve and GAMERS WANT TO EXPERIENCE IT= win-win situaion. So UNLESS that dev is being forced to continue making games within the same franchise I don't see the problem, also although devs should focus on one game at a time, they can do both= make sequels and new IP's.

This is a very weak opinion in my opinion. While I understand what the author is saying, I think it is poor to make a statement like that. I look at it like this, when the PS3 came out, or should I say when I was able to obtain the system, the one thing that drew me towards the system was Ratchet and Clank. I wanted to see the R&C world within the next most powerful console at that time. The series is one reason why I choose PS3 over 360. With this generation Infamous was my main reason why I purchased the PS4. U4 in my opinion is just the icing on the cake. But my point is that releasing these games at this point in time allows more gamers to jump on board sooner than later. Honestly this is a great strategy. MS used it last generation with H3 and it was a success. So this in turn is a great strategy by Sony.

It sure is funny how quickly people forget that successful Ip's such as Uncharted started as new Ip's not all that long ago. And the success of Uncharted leads to successful new unique Ip's like The Last of Us. Because without the Uncharted, there would be no TLOU. Go away guy. You're completely lost.

you hear this term all the time, new ip doesn't sell well.not sure why other gamers hesitate to buy new games and new ip. for me i buy just about any game new ip or old ip and only new.

its always funny how people complain about COD every year yet a lot of them have no problem buying a new AC every year. How much has AC evolved? its still the same gameplay/missions etc,

these so called people who want new experiences and want new IP's are the ones buying the damn sequels. When sleeping dogs launched it was a new IP launching on consoles with huge install bases yet sold few 100k in first month

publishers will not take risks if all people want are sequels. That's where Indies come into play, that's where actual risk taking is going on and that's where gaming will evolve.

AAA games cost too much and publishers are scared to change too much in fear that it will turn off many long time fans.

also just because 4 people from ND leave out of a team of 250 doesn't mean anything. Its ND so unless they make a bad game or even an average games till than shut up and wait for UC4 because being concerned

I mean, it is nice to see additional installments to popular franchise but if they do not reinvent themselves or change then they are hindering the gaming community.

This could be said about all prequels/sequels, but seriously, how could Uncharted 5 hurt the PS4? How could a Halo 5 hurt the Xbox1? Yes, gaming this generation needs some innovation outside of presentation and graphic upgrades, but every console needs it's "staple" franchise to push sales. While I'm not personally expecting "revolutinary" gameplay from either Uncharted or Halo, I can't fathom the idea that the experience playing them won't make me happy or dampen my excitement for the future.

Revolutionary changes for existing franchises are frankly suicide and a disservice to the fans. People get sequels for the same familiar experience in a nicer package with improvements and a new story unless things are fundamentally broken.

I totally expect disagrees, but those will come from people that would be the first to complain that stuff has been changed compared to the games before. I complained a lot when EA announced that new "Mirror's Edge" for exactly changing stuff from the previous one.

Exactly THIS!!! Sequels are made simply because there is a demand for them. The market, which is us, will eventually tell the devs when enough is enough. Just as it will determine the ultimate success of a new IP. Consoles really need BOTH to survive and thrive. They need fresh, new IP as well as the tried and true experiences that gamers can trust to be great. As long as there is a good balance between bringing new IP and sequels, I see no problem.

None of these sequels are anything but a good thing but I think the only risk is if a company is only known for re-release of same few franchises as in
Ms - the halo gears forza console... This is not necessarily true but a risk nonetheless..

Could be harmful to the gaming industry? You're delusional. You claim that Xbox One shouldn't rely on Halo but MS IS relying on Halo, they always have and it's worked. Sony isn't relying on Uncharted 4 for the Ps4. Ps4 has already smashed out expectations at launch and again when Infamous SS came out. I have no where heard an expectation for Uncharted 4 to be the expectation for the Ps4, it's a game THAT GAMERS WANT. Uncharted is loved by a lot of people. While I'd much rather have had Naughty Dog leave Uncharted on the Ps3 and start a new franchise like they did with the Ps1/2, I already have 60 bucks set aside for the new Uncharted the minute the teaser was shown. Just like Halo, Uncharted is a reliable title that people know they can buy and never have to worry about it's quality.

You want games that are holding back the industry please look at Call of Duty, Titanfall (being basically Call of Duty but much easier), cell phone focus, and free 2 play

I Don't think that there will be an announcement. If anything, they would have shown the teaser trailer this e3 if they didn't show it late last year. Late last year, they didn't need to show the trailer and i think, by doing so, they have lost their opportunity for a proper e3 show. They probably don't have any gameplay they can show and they are kicking themselves for not saving the teaser for june.

Highly unlikely. Seriously, take all of this news and just tuck it away. Uncharted 4 will be just fine. This is still Naughty Dog here. Minkoff is still there, Straley and Druckman are still there and an entire two team group of developers that produced three Game of the Year games. Not to mention, they're always hiring on new talent, which they're apparently very good and thorough about. This doesn't concern me at all. Naughty Dog and Uncharted will be fine. The company had skyrocketed when Wells and Ballestra straight took control of the studio, and they have Sony in their corner to help them along. Seriously. Put all this bull cap and speculation to bed and forget about it. I have full confidence in an entire team of developers, and not just a few individuals. There's no "I" in team.
