Why it make sense for Amazon to buy Double Helix.
Another veteran executive is leaving Amazon.com Inc.’s video game division, which has struggled to produce big hits since it launched a decade ago.
Amazon and Google both trillion dollar companies failed to enter the gaming market. It’s not as easily as many think.
These companies think because they have money that they can just Waltz right into gaming? Sorry, it doesn't work that way.
Not sure why anyone is concerned with Google, Amazon and Apple in the main video game market. They clearly lack focus and inspiration
Well Its no wonder when you see the stuff they do with games. Google wanted to introduce a cheap console that required internet connection to play streamed games that weren't even local to the harddrive. Apple still wants simplified, data mining, touch screen mobile games spread far and wide. Everyone was really interested in Blue Protocol right up until Amazon was announced to be involved and the trailer was released with all the same tired and crappy ESG changes they made to the game. I hear they had a similar influence on Lost Ark but I don't know the details.
They all try to push some varying idea that is either anti consumer or just undesirable in one form or another.
Amazon Game Studios has revealed that their latest update for Lost Ark will be called Destined for Destruction and will be released in May.
With only three active abilities available at any one time, some have been quick to criticise New World's combat variety
Elder Scrolls Online maxing at 5 abilities before having to switch weapons back and forth eventually killed me. (Loved a lot of that game otherwise, but it just felt way too restrictive)
I cant imagine having 3 max for this style of game...
Maybe they want a studio to make games exclusive for their Kindle?
I doubt they make a console and even if they would there are better devs to buy. They made plenty of not so good games.
Looks like Consoles are the new black. Amazon, Google, Ouya, Steam....Everyone is trying to cash in. Personally I think that the console market is pretty locked up by the big 3 at the moment. I cant see there being a big market to play Cell Phone games on a big screen, but I guess we wont know till they hit the shelves.
As I look at the big picture I think you have to look at what Amazon currently does well and then you look at their back end and you can start to see just what they may be up to.
1) Amazon Prime is slowly turning into a major streaming player in the market. Its quickly risen up and many look at it in a similar light to Netflix now with streaming unlimited play for many titles and then the store front for other videos.
2) Amazon Prime has also quietly built out an excellent gaming store front that offers some really good deals. Its competative for sure.
3) DH isn't necessarily a console starting studio. But they can indeed make a great game to be exclusive for Amazon to offer to subscribers to their Amazon service or device that accesses into the Amazon Prime Services.
I am thinking Amazon might be going the way of Chrome Cast or Ouya and offering up some kind of dongle or small device that will stream Amazon Prime and also offer a library of games with it.
Not very often this happens..how do they make a good game and is swept right underneath Microsoft?
Something not right...
